And the only legacy Tim Duncan has is in San Antonio...

Agree 100%.

Do you think that Lebron only wants to be a nice quiet humble guy like Duncan?

Orrrrrrrrrr

Does he want to rule the world?

Be honest with yourself.

I dunno man, I just seen a lotta damn signs that make me think Bron wants it in NY. But we'll see.

Wanna really get crazy, I could see Cleveland try to lock this up real quick and force Brons' hand. Imagine a crazy scenario where Phoenix realizes thewindow done shut. Shaw, Nash, Bell, Hill all old. They done, flat out. Maybe they work a package to get Amare to Cleveland sometime next year, say tradingdeadline or sooner, and the Cavs make a run. They a legit team, maybe they convince both of em to stay and try to win titles, and maybe add a 3rd tier guy.

Could happen.

Bottom line, Cleveland can not just sit around and bank on Lebron's loyalty while NY makes move after move to make room for the guy. Just my .02

Yes.

Early season success? Knicks were 6-5 at the time of this trade...

One of Walsh's goals is to unload some of the contracts Isiah Thomas has bludgeoned this team with. The Knicks are REBUILDING...were theRandolph/Crawford Knicks going to deliver a championship in the next two years? Hell no...Walsh traded them now while their value had increased...and in theprocess got rid of two contracts that frees up cap space.

I don't get why this is so hard to understand.

Were the Knicks going to win this year or make a championship run? No.

Were the Knicks going to win next year or make a championship run? Highly unlikely.

LeBron is obviously #1 amongst potential FA's in 2010, but let's take a look...

Stars whose contracts expire following the 2009-2010 season and will then become honest-to-goodness free agents:
Joe Johnson
Ray Allen
Manu Ginobili
Marcus Camby
Tracey McGrady
Shaquille O'Neal
Brad Miller
Stephen Jackson
Jermaine O'Neal
Mike Miller
Rip Hamilton

The next grouping is those players that are signed thru 2011, but can opt out in 2010 if they so choose:
Amare Stoudamire (owed 17.7 million in 10/11)
LeBron James (owed 17.2 million in 10/11)
Dwayne Wade (owed 17.0 million in 10/11)
Chris Bosh (owed 17.1 million in 10/11)
Dirk Nowitzki (owed $21.5 million in 10/11)
Josh Howard (owed $11.8 million in 10/11)
Mike Redd (owed $18.3 million in 10/11)
Tyson Chandler (owed $12.8 million in 10/11)

This next list consists of contracts that are set to expire in 2010, but the player may choose to opt-out following the 2008-2009 season:
Steve Nash (owed $13.1 million in 09-10)
Carlos Boozer (owed $12.7 million in 09-10)
Chris Paul (owed $6 million in 09-10 / almost certain to sign an extension before becoming unrestricted)
Memo Okur (owed $9.0 million in 09-10)
Hedo Turkoglu (owed $7.4 million in 09-10)

In addition to the superstars listed above, these 'second-tier' players are set to hit the open market as well:
Ben Wallace
Larry Hughes
Zydrunas Ilgauskas (option to opt-out after 09/10 season)
Anderson Varejao (option to opt-out after 09/10 season)
Al Harrington
Darko Milicic
Udonis Haslem
Jamal Crawford (option to opt-out after 09/10 season)
Eddy Curry (option to opt-out after 09/10 season)
Amir Johnson
Derek Fisher
Raja Bell
T.J. Ford (player option - owed $8.5 million in 10/11)
Travis Outlaw
Bruce Bowen
Earl Watson
Luke Ridnour

Quentin Richardson

Matt Harpring

Damien Wilkins

...so the Knicks are trying to get under the cap as much as possible to make a serious run at these FA's in two years. And why wouldn't you? Take alook at these names...bring in the right player(s) and you could be looking at a repeat of the '07-'08 Celtics. Being able to offer substantial $$$ +the lure of playing home at MSG/NYC and bringing a championship to this city (yes outacontrol...it does count as afactor, whether you want to believe it or not) will at least tempt a good portion of these FA's into coming here.

Bottom line: Are the Knicks in a better position today than they were a few days ago to sign Lebron James OR any otherbig free agents in 2010?

Yes.

Would those trades fall in line with the goals Walsh and co. set long term for this team?

Yes.

It's all part of the plan...

Hmmm.

Let me get this straight.

#2. And Walsh is willing to tank the rest of this season along with next season for the possibility of signing LBJ or Amare Stoudemire or whomever.

Even if James does join the Knicks in whatever sweet bye-and-bye Walsh imagines, what are the chances that his teammates-of-the-future will be superior to his current playmates in Cleveland? The only difference could very well be that LBJ will get more endorsements in the Big Apple, and he'll also be able to get egg creams and pastrami sandwiches at 3:00 in the morning.

It's not surprising that D'Antoni didn't exactly give the trades a ringing endorsement. "Donnie's got his plan and he'll execute it as he sees fit," said the new Knicks coach.

It says here that somebody should put a speed-lock on Walsh's gas pedal before he drives the Knicks into a ditch so deep that not even LeBron can rescue them.

I guess there always has to be two sides to things.

I don't see what we sacrificed and how the future now is so much more "uncertain" than it was when we we're 6-5 with bloated contract afterbloated contract.

2010 is going to be one crazy summer with all these free agents. I hope we get Bron in NY
