Kanye West: King of the Sunken Place, "Watch the Throne"

I know dozens of people that can chop up beats, flip samples, etc... It's literally the version of making beats that requires the least amount of talent, as you don't even really need to know how to play any instruments

MPC 3000 is all you need bro.
Once I figure out how to work this fruityloops I illegally downloaded I'm gonna change the world!

Man.

"We" had the power to stop wearing Gucci that we can't afford, we had the ability to not sell out Mercedes benz stadium after a popstar told us that "slavery was a choice".

We can't be mad when other people collectivize when we can't even collectively decide if we were really offended by a gucci t-shirt.

Who are "we" even. From the posts so far some of us are jews, we might be egyptian, if we are born in africa some might not consider you black... a whole damn mess of a narrative.

So are Black folks at fault here or not.
Make your claim.

He and others don’t know that. Thats why they think its “genius”.

My only claim is you can't get mad when other people galvanize and come out with a coherent message as to why they are offended.

I guess I'm lost on some of the other nt undertones, (e.g. asians calling black people cornball...what's that all about).

As tho Kanye's previous pontifications on slavery, my previous response speaks to that.

So again I ask, is it on black folks that people aren't publicly punished as harshly when they disrespect us vs. When others get disrespected?

A simple yes or no will do.

I can play the guitar and piano,
Kanye can't.

I guess I'm more talented than Kanye West

I can read music.
Paul McCartney cannot

I guess I'm more talented than Paul McCartney.

I know how to code(JavaScript, CSS, HTML)
Steve Jobs did not.

I guess I'm more talented than Steve Jobs.
You most likely are trash at all those things... Just keeping it real

You spend too much time arguing with people on here.

I don't know, I have to admit I'm not always good about keeping a log of who's offended who at whatever point in time. But, I can't be mad when the people who have been offended give a coherent voice/response as to why they are offended.

On paper you can make almost anything look relatively easy, especially creative talents. Functionally speaking, it's not that hard to use an MPC. The hard part is making something that sticks, that people enjoy.

That's where I disagree.

The hard part is actually being in the right place at the right time.

The music industry isn't really based off merit and your talents.

Yo, didn't you lose a lung or something couple years back?

Seems like you want to say yes but don't want to pull that trigger.

You've said enough. It's on us. It's our fault.

We need to take ourselves more seriously.

We need to be unified/ united.

It's on us.

Ignore the power structure, blame it on how we move.

Got you.

With that being said, does it require a level of talent to be in the right rooms and fit the technical skills (i.e. chop a beat on an mpc) and give it/sell it to the right person at the right time and create a moment in history that is appreciated by millions?

Honest question: to the people who think Kanye needs help to correct this behavior, do you guys not remember when Kanye first got into the spotlight and would make “controversial” comments AGAINST racism? Nobody wanted him to get help back then. He could’ve dropped 9484847 more tirades against George Bush and no one other than racists would’ve ever told him to shut his mouth.

You have to accept that either

A) that whole thing was an act to appeal to both mainstream and underground hip hop fans at a time when you mostly heard things like Ying Yang Twins on the radio (completely possible; I remember a lot of people who hated mainstream hip hop loved Kanye and bought his albums because of his content)

Or

B) his views changed radically over time due to his bitterness and being called out for his poor behavior, especially when he started doubling down on being an @&$ after the Taylor Swift incident.
People who were in his circle growing up all say Kanye is a sponge. He takes on the thoughts, persona, and energy of those around him. It makes sense to me as I'm very similar.

With that in mind, I think his views radically changed because he got around the wrong people and is soaking up their ********.

The example I like to use is something like logo designs. There are no good logos out there that would be 'hard' for an average graphic artist to design. If you go to virtually any graphic designer and ask them to make you a copy of a logo, they'll be able to do it.
However it is no easy task to make a good logo, one that truly stands out.

One of my personal favorites is the GameCube logo. It's simple and any graphic designer could easily copy it, yet it is also one of the greatest logos ever made. It has the G and the C, and the cube. It's genius.

Y'all wildin. You know how many people have mpc's? They are all trash.

Anyways beatmaking and producing aren't one in the same.

lol

I ain't blaming anyone.

If the "power structure" is what's holding us back from stepping into the gucci store a week after we said we are going to boycott it, please communicate that to me and then we can hit the power structure in an organized manner.
