**LA LAKERS THREAD** Sitting on 17! 2023-2024 offseason begins

they weren’t going to disrupt the industry in the sense of accumulating significant market share. By disrupting I mean generating athlete awareness of their own value. Many athletes go into these signings not understanding their own worth. Their dream is to be a Nike/Adi athlete so they forego all leverage. They are too afraid to say no and be left with nothing.

BBB didn’t need to be Nike or under armour for Zo to collect that 5M he was missing out on per year.

It’s like rappers signing to labels and getting paid a few mil while the label collects 10s of million off you. You are being exploited and many people don’t even realize it.

Lavar had the right mindset. It’s the same mindset diddy, jay z, dr Dre have. His execution wasn’t great though. But what he tried to do was commendable.

Lonzo is just too young to understand this either. Plus even though he’s majority owner he doesn’t share the same vision as his dad. That’s why this is unfortunate. They had a chance to do it. Just didn’t work out. I give them credit for trying because that is more than the 99.9% of players getting finessed

Lol wym? Lonzo deserved to go #2 on merit alone. If anything lavar did him a disservice and made the lakers contemplate selecting fox instead because of his theatrics

Lavar wanted Zo to be an entrepreneur and keep the money within the family. Zo wanted to get the bag for himself and be a Nike athlete. He didnt put work into bbb besides funding it. He probably didn’t even care about bbb that much. He was forced into it. At 19 years old this dude doesn’t understand it. The allure of a shoe deal/immediate cash is more enticing than struggling for a chance to build something great.

Listen to nipsey and jay talk about business. These dudes get it

Bro how much ball in the family do you watch? LOL

It was clear as day from the jump BBB was never going to go anywhere or make any huge noise in the market, fickle, gullible millennials hopped on the hype and started lacing lavar's pockets and asking this dood for autographs LOL

there there was a portion of folks who was supporting the entrepreneurship/father/son angle or whatever else you want to try to spin it as.....

listen if we talking business, first and foremost you gotta have a decent product. BBB never had that man, between the DHGATE quality basketball sneakers and google image SCREEN PRINTED tee's....lavar really got yall going.

This BBB **** was basically SLOWBUCKS 2018....and yall was really riding with it. :rolleyes

Talmbout "branding" and "entrepreneurship"

I really hope this is some BS. Jason Kidd would be a horrendous hire. Look at the bucks, everyone knew that Kidd was doing an awful job. The moment that that they got a decent coach they immediately got better and now they have the best record in the league with essentially the same team.

But people were saying he developed Giannis

Magic thinking Kidd was a great PG, floor general, leader......that must mean he’s a great coach too

Smh

Magic dumb af

Y’all gonna be longing for the days of Luke and his rotations

Kidd is a garbage person, wife beater, drunk, what he did to Lawrence Frank etc

lavar wanted to live out his own dreams through his kids

the thirsty **** was so thirsty about his own dreams he hired a crook.

he wasnt trying to do nothing to be groundbreaking and help athletes control their own destiny he was doing it for himself and nobody else.

stephon marbury did it right. if an athlete wants to follow a planthey should look at what he did with his 15 dollar shoes

lets be honest here

none if these coaches are the coaches anyways lebron is the coach
as long as we win im fine with that

nobody is EVER gonna long for luke walton as a coach

hes not right in the head

he coached this team like he still hadthe warriors roster

Don’t disagree at all. I think Lavar acted selfishly. He forced Lonzo to say no to Nike so the whole family (mostly himself) could benefit. Instead of letting a rich white man exploit you, why not your own dad instead?

But on the real I think Lavar had true intentions to build BBB to make it a fruitful investment for Lonzo. These shoe deals are only worth 5M a year for rookies, max. That is nothing when players are bringing in 5-10x that in revenue yearly. BBB could easily generate that revenue if they had real leadership and a real business model. They were too busy doing too much at once. Like I said, they had the right mindset just poor execution.

I couldn't disagree more. we had a long stretch when LeBron wasn't playing and you still didn't run an actual offense. We looked like five random guys out there never played with each other. Part of it is just due to the crazy amount of roster turnover we've had over the last few seasons but the majority of it is just bad coaching and lack of structure.

Also, Luke had some of the worst lineups and substitutes and patterns I've ever seen for a professional coach. I feel like with literally throwing crap at the wall and seeing if it would stick for most of the season.

LeBron doesn't substitute players in and out, LeBron isn't the one tasked with developing the young players and putting them in position to succeed.

But that was the issue with big baller brand from the jump. no one is questioning your players have the potential to make more money on their own by taking control of their careers.
The issue with big baller brand was that lavar and his group seems like immature, opportunists from the jump. $500 shoes? $200 slides? $100 shirts Putting shoes on backorder for months then not full filling orders at all.

It seems like they were too busy giving interviews and developing height and didn't spend enough time developing a business plan, a supply chain for even stating the people whoor even spending the people who had ownership stake in the company.

Lebron don't wanna be coached. Had Ty Lue in the hospital trying to stand up to him but seeing as he's the only one besides Riles that had the gall to do that he's likely our best option.

So what about Luke's terrible rotations and substitution patterns? What about the lack of coaching and development for the other 14 players on the roster? Like I said earlier, got a long stretch of the season without LeBron and it's not like we were running offensive sets. We still look like five random guys out there playing. I know you hate LeBron and would like to blame him for every problem we have but he's the least of our issues in my opinion.
