Exactly. It was always a pipe dream to think that players like Kyle Lowry, Chris Paul or DeRozan would come to Lakers to play for the mini MLE.

There are certain players (only a handful) that might choose to forego a small amount of money to play for a contender but the vast majority of NBA players are trying to maximize their earnings.

They pay lip service to winning being first and foremost but at the end of the day, follow the money.

DeRozan is going to get north of $20m per year, why would he come to the Lakers to play for 6m?
