**LA LAKERS THREAD** Sitting on 17! 2023-2024 offseason begins

No one is saying trade him because he’s not a great player

There are strategic reasons ie when Ainge broke up rondo KG Pierce

 You can't even begin to compare the two situations.

Bron >>>>>>>>>>>> all them dudes at their advanced age. Hell AD >>>>>>>> Boston's core at that age.

Almost Ainge > Rob Pelinka

Bron is WAY greater
Arguably the GOAT

yet on pace to be out of the playoffs 3 of 5 years with him

We won’t win another chip with him so my view is why not cut ties and get assets? As great as he is wouldn’t he get us at least double what Gobert got for Utah?

And sadly no matter how great Bron is, we haven't been able to do anything since the 2020 championship.

It's one thing to tank when Kobe has reached the end of the road and you have no other option. But to trade both Bron and AD when they're playing like top 5 talents and still have good years left is ridiculous especially when you don't even have your pick the next 2 seasons. Not to mention the flattened odds where you can be the worst team in the league and still land outside the top 3. If you can't figure out how to build around those two then the draft sure as hell aint gonna save you

Luka another 50 tonight. At 23 years old. We don't want him tho, he never won anything and wasn't drafted by the Kings...... :lol

No worries, we got a 38 year old and AD-DNP to lead us to the 12th seed.

What does this even mean? Are you insinuating you could possibly draft a Luka or similar talent in 2026 or beyond? You still gotta swap this years and NOP can take 24 or 25.

Trade Bron/AD and tank for years in hopes of drafting............................................................Bron. Solid strategy.

And that's with the foresight to draft him. Ala Tatum over a Lonzo.

And this is also 3-5 years down the line wen you can begin rebuilding. This is year 5 Luka.

I just don't see it. But I guess many Laker fans have seen great luck before from the draft Magic/Kobe and trades/free agency Kareem/Shaq/Bron. You prolly figure they can just do it again.

Problem is Jerry West, Dr. Buss, Pat Riley and Phil Jackson are gone.

barring the front office developing any type of competence, they’re likely not going to have any choice with the trade Lebron stuff.

If they continue being incompetent, he’s going to want out after this season.

Either way you slice it, we are screwed. Current FO won't/can't make the right moves, AD stays hurt and Bron (while still playing incredible) is getting older.

Here's one realistic trade the Lakers can do to improve their roster without having to give up any of the FRP's while still addressing key needs.
fanspo-nba-trade-machine-snap_12-31-2022_8-27-06PM.png

The idea here is to acquire a couple of starting caliber role players/bigs who can shoot and spread the floor and REBOUND, ntm provide much needed scoring punch in the event AD goes down.

Both PJ and Vuc can score 20 on any given night.

Additionally, the Lakers can begin to find more minutes for Christie at shooting guard/small forward by getting rid of JTA.

To add more depth on the cheap, Mo Harkless, whom the Lakers worked out in October after Houston waived him, is still available.

Lakers would now have the depth, size, and length needed to be competitive in a wide open West.

Reaves / Westbrook / Schroder
Walker / Christie / Brown
Bron / Harkless / Brown
AD / Washington / Gabriel
Vucevic / Bryant / Gabriel

Adding 2-3 key role players that fill needs can drastically change the overall look of this team

Above lineup is a playoff contender in the wide open West imo and is much better than what we have currently.

And most importantly, it bears repeating

I just don't see it.

A common theme with a lot of you guys.

Y'all so damn scared of the unknown but blindly wanna sit here and pray for a 38 year old to carry us. :lol

Guess what, we're still ****ed in 2024-25, when he's 40, so why not maximize his value and try to land 2-3-4 picks off him and AD?

Trade Bron for 2 picks.
Trade AD for 3 picks.

We just saw Gobert net 4 picks by himself. I'm not even being overly greedy.

You have Reaves and Christie as your young guys. Pull 5 picks in trade.
You have a pick in 24 either ours or New Orleans. If they take ours, then you are guaranteed to have our 2025 pick in our control.

Plus however many 2nd round picks you can use the next 2-3 drafts.

I'm not even demanding you tank. Just draft well. Scouting dept has done solid over the last few years, our big mistake was Lonzo over Tatum.

Regardless of tank or not, you no longer have 3 max salary guys. You're way under tax. Ton of cap space as you pay only rookie deals for 2-3 years. No more 38 year old 1 year deals ala Melo-Dwight-Bradley types. You can pay 3-4 year contracts on young guys. (Things we didn't do with Caruso or THT or Reaves)

Then you try to attract your 2 Free Agents. Land those, then you can flip 2-3-4 of the young guys for a 3rd if one is available ORRRRRR you stick with the young fellas. Imagine if we did pick Tatum. And didn't trade DLo. Coulda had
DLo
Ingram
Tatum
Bron

And still had Kuzma, KCP, Caruso, Hart, Nance etc.

Get rid of Pelinka and start the clock. Otherwise, Bron/AD just getting older and more brittle with less cap space and fewer picks to work with unless we deplete the entire of the decade when they'll both be long gone.

Not because of HIM, though. I don't see how trading him would immediately net us a player of his caliber. And we already have a player of his caliber.

Play wise, maybe not his fault. Salary wise...... 8o

3 huge salaries and 10 randoms makin peanuts. 2 of the 3 on their last legs. And the 3rd not exactly condusive to winning basketball.

If you had 3-4 other key role guys around them, sure. But we don't.

No one is scared of anything. I just don't think it makes sense from a business or basketball perspective to quit right now.

You're hand waving a lot of important parts of the process. Trade Bron/AD draft some picks and decent guys and then a few years from now sign 2 stars to go with the draft picks, couple trades then BOOM we back baby. Nah, it don't work like that man. What proof have they shown you they're capable of doing this? Fire Pelinka, ok. But you can't fire Jeanie/Linda/Kurt. She's going to be willing to spend more money, after she dumps Bron/AD?

But I'll play. Let's focus on this part, the team building aspect. Even in this fantasy scenario wouldn't be able to keep half that team together. Legally. Much less Jeanie paying the tax on this.

Ingram - max extension 5/158
Tatum - max extension 5/163
DLO - slightly under max extension 4/117
Bron - MAX

And that's without any depth pieces. You undoing Nance + Clarkson to CLE in 2018? Kuzma/KCP/Caruso/Hart/Nance/Clarkson all make 10+ (sans Caruso) million. Unless you plan having everyone take discounts because..................................................LA? It ain't that simple.

Then you get to the most unspoken portion of sending Bron and Klutch away. How are you going to attract big free agents when you ushered one of the greatest to ever do it out the door? Who wants to come and play there or rather what superstar would want to come? All of whom are going to want input and control over whom they play with.

You forget Bron heads the biggest player agency in the sport? And he ain't going anywhere even after he retires. You think players will just look past that when it comes time to pick where to sign when the biggest player of their generation was told your too old *****? In this new era of player empowerment he helped usher in?

If you trade LeBron, you’ll never win again. If you put LeBron around the right guys, they are definitely going to win, he said. I think whoever put the team together needs to step up and try and fix it.

You and many others are applying simple business dynamics to a very complex and fluid situation that could have reverberations for years to come. I'm hoping for the best, but like I said, I just don't see it.
