**LA LAKERS THREAD** Sitting on 17! 2023-2024 offseason begins

I feel like we always hit a point in the season where it just feels like it’s over. I remember one season we lost against a trash *** Portland team. I feel like I reached that point. I’m tired 💤

Yeah I think I'm out

Lebron and AD can really do some dumb things sometimes...
Man. 🤦🏻‍♂️
I just see AD straight up not care on defense way too often. And I'm not talking about "Dude, he anchors the defense all the time and some plays he's just tired."
I'm not talking about fatigue. I'm talking about just not in the play, WAY too often (and an acceptable amount of time is never).

And if I never saw Lebron shoot another 3 again, I'd be alright.

I mean if you watch it they were loading up (pause) since Gabe had the ball and Bron was trailing so whether he puts the ball down and tries to get inside the key, tries to get a step closer or even tries dribbling towards the top of the key for another look, he's at least doubled if not tripled. He let it go with 4 secs left. He was 6-10 from 3 at that point.

Obviously not a great shot, but with no timeouts in that situation after all that happened I'm not even mad. They should've won that game already.

Watched the game winner like ten times.

Can’t think of a single possession having as many boneheaded thoughts and actions as AD and Gabe did there. But the inbounds play charge comes close.

I don’t want to hear they need a bunch of defensive personnel. That’s the guys they want there theoretically. At least one, but the other was brought for defense. And if it was DFS instead of Gabe. The same thing would happen.

Where the Lakers ****** up, is that when they decided to role with AR, DLo, Rui, Vando, Bron and AD all the way back to 2023 draft time. Which depending on where you read was the path forward from there. They didn’t say “Hey that 1-6 is competitive with pretty much everybody or within striking distance. It will be really hard to improve 1-6 without trading away 2, maybe 3 of the 6 for one guy. So we need to build out the roster from there to support those guys.”

Not a 2 guard that fits with DLo and AR.
Not a 3/4 that can play with more physicality and pace with Bron. Before and after Vando’s injury.
And for the life of me, 0 effort to sign anybody with a veteran presence to be backup center.

If they truly are looking to be a contender…… that’s the same process they need and needed to go after.
If not then just let the cards fall where they may, or completely rebuild.

Not the post-Achilles Kobe route they are trying again.

The last play gets the most attention...

But the one thing that killed them as well was second chance points and it's been killing them all year.

If they grab a few rebounds the game is over in regulation.

Team is committing suicide nightly by doing this yet 20 something games into the season they insist on sticking with it LMAO still not a single peep about it from the media. As long as JJ keeps his hands out of his pockets he'll be safe lmao.

Anyhow, watched the replay and I guess I have to at least give credit them for at least playing harder last night, even Rui was more active on the boards...

Give Gabe ALL the DLO minutes... terrible way to end the game but again, as soon as Trae got the switch he wanted with AD on him I knew it wasn't going to end well.

Looks like switching isn't really helping them to defend the perimeter better, and I'd be curious to know what opponents are shooting in the paint this year vs last because now it's easier than ever to pull AD away from the basket smh.

Scoring 132 should normally be enough to win most games BUT I just don't feel this team is going to pull too many close ones out because they can't stop a nosebleed.

The Lakers just don't have the right personnel to successfully execute what Redick is implementing.

They need to acquire legitimate impact bigs, at least 2, to help AD. If they do this, the Lakers would own the paint 95% of the time, immediately neutralizing "one side of the field" as they say in football, much like Prime Time used to do with SF and DAL.

No rebounds, no rings.

They need to acquire at least 2-3 two-way guards/small forwards and get rid of the lazy defenders who are currently on this team. The result is the Lakers' wing and perimeter defense improves considerably, because the bigs are always having an advantage and taking care of business in the paint on both ends of the court.

But LAL needs the right players to execute the winning game plan.

Basketball is a symbiotic sport.

One doesn't need advance stats to know how championship teams are built and how championships are won.

Pelinka has proven thus far that he doesn't know how to get back to the formula that got the Lakers all those championships, including the one he won in '19-'20. To make matters worse, neither do Jeanie and Rambis.

Its a damn shame.

Man to Man going to suck too. Switching has been awful. Randle bullying guards for easy layups is 90% FG. Team built with AR, Dlo, Knecht, just going to struggle defensively. Easiest way to shore up bad defense is 2 options imo: On-ball defender- Takes hardest matchup/superstars (Herb Jones, Kris Dunn [budget]) or Defensive anchor big man (Bam, Goga [budget])
