essential1 essential1 you mean the one max player....I think they will stick with their old guys. Sign Pau at a cheaper contract, keep as many role players as they can afford and go after Love in 15. not all that exciting but unless something drastic happens that's what it looks like.

I might be trippin but I swear there was a report that came out near the beginning of the season that said the Lakers don't want Melo, calling him a "false savior" but now I can't find anything on the web about it

I can't remember but were the Mavs able to flip any of their players when they were giving out all those 1 year deals?

Not trading Pau wasn't some big signal of anything

trading him for Bynum would've been

again, i know this wont happen because for some reason this front office doesnt want a good draft pick. all im saying is without  one we have a very very very slim chance of winning a championship in the near future
That's foolishness.

What do you mean they don't want a good draft pick? You don't think they'd love a #1 overall pick every year? Part of the reason they always trade their picks is because there was no fathomable reason that they would be a lottery team any time this decade.

If they thought "Hey we'll be a lottery team for a few years." We'd have picks.

But it's not so simple as just trading every player on the roster. That's not how it works when the season has been going on for 3 months.

There is no way for them to control where they are on the draft position. Somehow you have to get this through your head.
there are plenty of ways for the front office to make this team worse than it is for this one year

look at what boston is doing, look at what orlando and philly are doing

just one season, we suck right now but not as much as other teams that are going out of their way to suck.

Mitch had a quote where he said he'd be cautious of false saviors. The article mentioned Melo and Rudy Gay, I think, but I'm pretty sure those parts were the reporter speculating on what he meant.

I don't think Pau is staying. He is still just an expiring contract to the Lakers. We'd all probably be down to sign Pau to a bargain but it doesn't seem like he'd be willing to do that.

No one is banging down the door for our players. :lol

Everything Magic & Celtics have done (exception of Crawford trade) was done during the offseason.

Magic are just letting their team play. They happen to be a bad team.

Celtics traded Crawford because he maximized his value, also with Rondo back, he would lose a lot of playing time. So it was a necessity trade more so than a strictly tanking trade.

i know we cant do much about it now outside of maybe trading pau, i just wish the front office planned to tank this offseason

That's not what they do. Also here's the thing. We could have just as likely been battling for an 8th seed, and then made a HUGE mid-season deal.

There wasn't much wiggle room for the Lakers to make the team worse than they are presently.

i dont see "thats not what they do" as a good reason for not choosing the best/most cost effective way to get star talent. we could be battling for an 8th seed then make a HUGE deal, but that still wouldnt mean we are good enough to be winning a championship so the season would still be a waste (for me at least)

maybe not a bargain but a "paycut" similar to Kobe's would allow us to keep most of our role players. he might be the best availble free agent this offseason depending on how you feel about Melo/Deng. might be reaching but the fact that the Lakers paid Kobe for "services rendered" might influence Nick to opt in and get paid the year after which would help. btw I know not trading Pau wasn't a signal of anything, but trading him for Bynum would've been a sign of going all in for tanking before we had the opportunity to win too many games

services rendered with nick young? the lakers dont owe him anything. granted that offer to kobe is still ridiculous but youre comparing that to 18+ years as a laker.

and i dont understand this part. elaborate 8o :

Putting aside the dollar amount, the Lakers won't give Pau more than a year. Maybe they even give him $8-10 million, but only for a year. And I doubt Pau accepts a one-year offer from the Lakers because it basically means he'll be dangled in trade rumors all over again.

Why are you guys talking about re-signing Pau?

Why, exactly, would we want to do that? :\

Is today April 1st?

I don't want the Lakers having to do anything with Pau next year.

The longer he stays, the worst his value gets. Next year, if we want to trade him he will only net a 2nd rounder + other teams trash.

Trade him now, so we don't have to bring up his name here any longer.

Depending on what happens with free agency this year... or if we draft a PF... we might need stopgaps again for next year. I wouldn't mind Pau on a cheap one-year deal. Basically view him as another journeyman after this year.

But I seriously doubt he would accept cheap or one-year so it's moot.

JoeCoolio if he's here next year it would be by the Lakers' choice.

Since some think Melo and/ Deng are coming and Pau may stay next year, where does this put us at in the West or overall?

With a lineup of:

Pau

Deng

Melo

Kobe

Farmar or Marshall

1st rounder

Xavier

Wes

etc...etc...etc

I don't think this spells championship...
