let this thread die (NYK)

Thank you for this.
Having been born yesterday, I really wasn't sure until you brought it up.
There's nothing this thread needed more in August then this post right here.
Where that rep button at again?
Oh my apologies, I should sit back and commend Carmelo for making wide open jump shots and talk about how our team will be so much better than last year. Or maybe I should hang him on my avatar like a child does his poster on a wall and completely disregard reality.

Let's get back to reality tho, Melo winning a gold medal and the way he played in the Olympics has nothing to do with how the NYK are going to play better basketball. If you think it does (like soo many of you are saying) please show me why and how. I'd love it.
But sir, I agree completely. I tried to put a bullseye on my avy, but it didn't take. :{

Don't get it twisted though...I cannot wait until Melo gets back to brickin, either. How the **** did this herb get the Olympic record for points in a game? Novak coulda done that against the Nigerian Pylons, too. :rolleyes

MrO you're validating my point right now, that game was against Nigeria. 82 game season and strenuous playoff games against the best competition in the world means a hell of a lot more.

I've just never been a fan of praising individual Olympic play going into the next NBA season. LeBron didn't score much this Olympics does that make him less of a scorer? Kobe had an off Olympics does that make him less of a player? No of course not. We've seen all these players in action, we know their resumes. Melo didn't show me anything new, no one on the team did. Just don't understand why so many are "surprised".

^^ Didnt read what yall are talking about but.. players on the Olympics always tend to have a great following season

Chandler when he won the chip in Dallas, Kevin Love and so on and so on.

Melo should have a really good season this yr

Again...we see eye to eye, buddy.

I wish Melo would've scored less. Now he's gonna think he's good or something. He might even think he's one of the elite players in the world. :x I hope he forgets anything he learned these last couple months, (which to be honest, probably was next to nothing).

Can he goaltend more from now on?
Can he only take shots from a foot inside the 3pt line?
Can he get "overrated" tattooed over his WB?
Why's my knee been hurting for the last couple days?
What are pork rinds make of?

Good convo, coupelt, we should do this again sometime.

Players tend to have great seasons after the Olympics because all of the players who are in the olympics were and are great in the first place.

I'm expecting Melo to do what he's normally done 25 ppg, 45% FG's, 35% 3FG. How much more can you expect? He's a scorer thats what he does. I'm not worried about Melo's output this season, he's 28 years old in his prime. I'm more worried about Amar'e, JR Smith, and our chemistry. I'm looking forward to seeing how thats going to change.

He led the nuggets to the wcf after the Olympics and could've won the series if we could have inbounded the ball game 1 and 3, cause jameer's my cousin and all but the magic were buns that year to make a finals appearance.

See this is the type of dumb ish I'm talking about, right here.
So all that good stuff happened because Carmelo Anthony won a gold medal in the Olympics? That makes no sense, no logic behind that type of assessment. If you believe this type of crap you should furthermore believe the Knicks will make it to the Finals next year, then lose in the 1st round for the next 3 years after that. Then maybe after Melo plays in the 2016 Olympics he will win a legit championship in 2017.

Absurd.

no where did I ever say Melo and the nuggets did such and such because he had a medal chillin at his crib or that the Knicks were gonna go to the conference finals since that's what happened in the 08-09 for the nuggets. All i did was state the facts of what happened for the nuggets fam

Why bother to even indulge dude anymore? Couplet rather speak indirectly about posts he disagrees with than to the ppl making them and then act like everyone in the thread but him agrees with it.

Son went from the team isn't going to play better because of how well Melo played in the Olympics to I expect him to play better cuz all the players on the Olympics are great players anyway as if one player playing better does not contribute to the team playing better. Then he talks about being in touch with reality.

Amare on Hakeem: 'He helped me a lot'

For the first time since Amare Stoudemire began training with Hakeem Olajuwon on Aug. 5, the Knicks power forward opened up about what it's been like inside the Hall of Famer's indoor basketball facility, located on his 500-acre ranch in Houston.

Stoudemire told Houston's FOX affiliate on Tuesday that he "can't wait" to bring his revamped post-up game to the court this season with the Knicks.

"There's always room to improve as a player. To want to be the best is always a common denominator for most players," he said. "So working with Hakeem, one of the best players to ever play the game, is a great opportunity for me. We are both very quick and athletic for our positions. So to learn from him will be a great advantage for me."

After Mike Woodson, Olajuwon's former teammate in Houston from 1988 to 1991, initiated the workout sessions to prepare Stoudemire for more time on the block, STAT was encouraged to add new down-low moves to his arsenal. He thought training with Olajuwon would give him a better chance to win multiple championships. The Knicks already have an established frontcourt with Stoudemire, Carmelo Anthony and Tyson Chandler, but none of them have ever consistently excelled in the post.

Stoudemire is hoping to change that through his work with Olajuwon.

"He helped me a lot," STAT said. "A lot of moves that he has really, really translate to my game. To now develop a post game is going to be remarkable for me. It's going to catch a lot of my opponents off guard and it's going to be a great year for me."

However, Stoudemire said it hasn't come easy to learn from "The Dream," who had very unconventional movements for a big man. In addition, for much of STAT's career, he's scored in pick-and-roll or isolation situations, whether he was driving or shooting his trademark mid-range jumpshot from the free-throw elbow.

"I have the IQ to implement this and learn fast, but it's not easy," he said. "There's a lot of detail that goes into it. He's very, very swift with his footwork, and he's very agile also at 50 still. It's great to learn from him. This is a great opportunity because you never how long he's going to be able to do this. So while I'm young and can still learn from one of the best, I'm very blessed to be a part of it."

Not only is Stoudemire stoked about the season ahead, but Olajuwon is excited to see how his student looks in real competition.

"That's the most satisfying," said Olajuwon, who's trained Kobe Bryant, Dwight Howard and LeBron James in the past three summers. "Because when I watch the game and when I see them work on that and take the opportunity, I actually see the guys in their comfort zone. That's why you see they can't wait for their season to start."
