let this thread die (NYK)

I hate the media. This team loses after a back to back against Dallas and everything's going to hell. It amazes me that people genuinely would wanna play here.

your NY sports pages are creative

It seemed that the Nets took the worst of the physicality. Humphries had scratches on his face after the game. Nets guard Anthony Morrow lost four teeth to a Melo elbow.
cot...damn
Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni said rookie forward Josh Harrellson could return from his wrist surgery after All-Star weekend, against Cleveland on Feb. 29.

But what I really came in here to say is to ask how often do y'all see/play against zones?

From what i've seen--we see a lot of teams playing a zone on us all the time. Sometimes I feel like we're the only team in the league that exclusively plays man defense most of the time

I feel the same way... The reason I asked is because I saw ATL in the thread title and thats what they did to us when we went up 20+ on them... Straight to the zone and cut the lead, then again Pooh was also on the bench but still it definitely sucked the energy & momentum out of our game.  While I personally think zone at this level is Sissyfied they're one of the teams who won't hesitate to throw it at you .

The funny thing is that usually the stronger defensive teams will play man defense. I can understand why ATL plays a lot of zone--Woodson probably made that a culture in ATL. Makes me wonder why we don't play zone as much. Guys like Amare, Melo and Fields will look like defensive specialists if we played a zone.

I agree. Amar'e just can't understand defending PnR and back cuts + he gets lazy when he doesn't see the ball or anyone with speed moving out of his reach goes at him. Zone though...zone he could get. He'd be the weak spot in it, but he'd understand his responsibilities better.

Can the Melo haters pleaseeeeeeee tell me when the last time a team won a playoff series with that "fun to watch" team ball, with not a single star player? Nuggets had that last year, they lose in the first round. You can say the Suns had that with Amar'e (even tho he was considered a star at the time) but they never made it to the Finals. The ONE time they got close to a Finals appearance, Amar'e was taking the majority of the shots and was having a career year. The 76ers last year? They got embarrassed by the Heat. I honestly can not remember a time where a team with 0 stars made it to the Finals.

Now, I'm not saying the Knicks need Carmelo to play hero ball and try to carry the team on his back. I'm saying Melo can play team ball and the team can still be successful. A few guys the last few pages are saying D'Antoni has a part in Melo's success or lack of it with this team, and I agree. Coach K had Melo playing like a poor man's LeBron in the Olympics, because Coach K is a GREAT coach. D'Antoni is just a great offensive coach. He's not good at handling egos, or adapting to new situations, or mastering his rotations. When Lin is hot, the team succeeds. When Lin isn't, the team struggles. That's the same way it was in Phoenix with Nash. When Nash was on the floor, the team looked unstoppable offensively, but once he rested, the opposing team would make a run. You can't have that in the NBA and expect to make noise

they need time to mesh... without melo in the lineup everyone seems to not hesitate to make plays but with melo on the floor everyone seems a little hesitant not named Stat to take a shot...

I think Amare is not going hard because of the schedule and he's tryin to hard to pick his spots ..

Melo will be fine, Lin will be great once he and melo understand situational awareness with each other...

its all about taking the time to understand each other on the court... patience is key..
