Heat...looks like humidity in between the thin plastic and whatever material the blue part is on the 18's...your shoes were sweating...

that is the 1st sign of disintegration. for some strange reasons, before the soles are turning to powder, they will "sweat" 1st.

I remember seeing these pix on other website. Very sad to see. Thats why you need to wear your kicks.
