Main article: LGBT themes in Chinese mythology

Dragon-gods, from Myths and Legends of China, 1922 by E. T. C. Werner. Dragons sometimes sexually assaulted older men.

Chinese mythology has been described as "rich in stories about homosexuality".[sup][40][/sup] The mythological stories and folklore of China reflect ancient Chinese perspectives toward homosexuality, rather than modern views. These myths are greatly influenced by religious beliefs, particularly Taoist and Confucian, and later incorporated Buddhist teachings.[sup][40][/sup]

The pre-taoist, pre-Confucian tradition of China was predominately shamanistic, with the majority of shamans being female. Male same-sex love was believed to have originated in the mythical south, thus homosexuality is sometimes still called "Southern wind". From this period, numerous spirits or deities were associated with homosexuality, bisexuality and transgenderism. These include Chou Wang, Lan Caihe,[sup][41][/sup][sup][42][/sup]Shan Gu, and Yu the Great, and Gun.[sup][43][/sup]

Homosexual encounters are common in Chinese folk stories. The animal spirits or fairies often choose same-sex partners, usually young men or boys.[sup][44][/sup] According to Xiaomingxiong, one exception to this age preference is the dragon, a powerful mythological beast. Chinese dragons "consistently enjoy sexual relationships with older men", one example being in the tale of "Old Farmer and a Dragon", in which a sixty-year old farmer is forcibly sodomised by a passing dragon, resulting in wounds from penetration and bites that require medical attention.[sup][44][/sup]

Tu Er Shen is a deity in chinese folklore who manages the love and sex between homosexual men. His name literally means "rabbit deity". According to "The Tale of the Rabbit God" in the Zi Bu Yu, Tu Er Shen was originally a man called Hu Tianbao, who fell in love with a handsome young imperial inspector of the Fujian Province. One day Hu Tianbao was caught peeping on the inspector, at which point he confessed his reluctant affections for the other man. The imperial inspector had Hu Tianbao sentenced to death by beating. Since his crime was one of love, underworld officials decided to right the injustice by delegating Hu Tianbao as the god and safeguarder of homosexual affections.[sup][45][/sup] In order to cater to the needs of modern homosexuals, worship of the Rabbit God has been resuscitated in Taiwan: A temple was founded in Yonghe City by a gay, Taoist priest.[sup][46][/sup]

For thousands of years, male homosexuality was referred to in literature by alluding to two semi-legendary figures from the early Zhou Dynasty. The first was Mizi Xia and the half-eaten peach which he shared with his lover, the actual historical figure, Duke Ling of Wei. The second was Lord Long Yang, who convinced an unnamed King of Wei to remain faithful to him by comparing himself to a small fish which the King might throw back if a larger fish came along. While both Mizi Xia and Lord Long Yang may have actually existed, nothing is known about them beyond their defining stories, and their presence in Chinese literature was very much that of legendary characters who served as archetypes of homosexual love.[sup][47][/sup]

Will be posting more homosexual themes in mythology/spirituality from various cultures.

Nah I just noticed you post a lot about Egyptian mythology and "spirituality". Many Ancient religions didn't view homosexuality in a negative light. Either way it should be irrelevant to this topic. Not everyone thinks that way, Nako has already expressed that.
It's just speculation that they were homosexual. But there are many other glyphs with people in that same pose but the text is connotative to a union and sharing of breath. They are archetypes.

You could look at this and say the king tut is gay. Too bad it is an archetype of him embracing his higher and lower self.  all three people in the picture are the same person,

they are archetypes and their relations.

Yea ok, or they could actually have been gay. How do u explain the God swallowing semen, or whatever the hell they were doing in that piece. Speaking of which I think I'm gonna embrace my lower self right now, that black women thread got me frisky.
All three people in this picture are the same person, king tut as Osiris/Heru/Heruhet. Khnumhotep and Niankhkhnum also have their children behind them in the picture you posted and they are recorded as having wives. But as we all know, most of what we know about Egypt hasn't been discovered yet.
God swallowing semen was their description of creation. They viewed the heavens as a larger organ of a larger body as well.

You don't believe it, cool. it was their understanding. the pictures are like diagrams. they are not photographs.

Creation is seen as housing both polarities male and female and the balance in between or the trinity. You will find homosexual themes in plenty of religions and mythologies because the stuff they are talking about is beyond our concept of human either, or gender.

Egyptian diety Happi. Man depicted with breast. Represents water and in this picture, unification of water from the north and south. The plants on either side are the symbols for the north, and south quarters of the king's body or the kingdom.

Experiencing gay things like what?

You don't have to pick something very minute out of my statement and act funny, I think you know what I mean or what I was trying to say.

I'm not trying to be funny at all, I was wondering what things people could be exposed to that would make them gay.
Seeing happy gay couples? Having accepting parents?
I am genuinely wondering where someone who believes in the nurture not nature theory (as you indicated that you do) thinks that the gayness comes from.

Also, is it different for lesbian women? For me as a female, what would I have to have been exposed to in order to have ended up gay?

They couldn't fine a less homosexual description for creationism that Gods swallowing the semen of their enemies?
grin.gif
Anyhow fine, Egyptians aren't gay. I have other cultures you could try to make up an excuse for. What about the Chinese one?

The Tuskegee experiment part made me lol, you think the government hasn't researched or tested experimental viruses and vaccines on homosexuals? Do you really think HIV came from a damn monkey? Oh but that's a conspiracy, right?

Instead of trying so hard to seem like your entire being is crushed by injustices your forefathers faced (you know damn well a dog has never been ordered to attack you, NOR have you been hit with a firehose), focus on the plight of your fellow man. Civil rights are civil rights. Did you know white activists assisted black people way back then? Crazy concept right? They believed in equality of all people, regardless of social constructs and Biblical "moral" systems.

This is just minorities bashing minorities. That SAME devil government you're talking about is @$#*!@++ on the rights of other people, and you don't care because it's not affecting you. You are no better than the people you feel are holding you down.

WOW, is my reading comprehension fail, or did this dude just say HIV was a goverment made virus released in the gay population? Go back to highschool man. Please, if you have time and or care look up SIV. If you still dont get it after that, then...

Not to get caught up in this argument between you because I'm not sure what its point is, but Wr you do realize dudes have been banging dudes for 1000s of years right?

Regardless of what the deeper meanings behind those paintings and heiroglyphics are, homosexuality existed in ancient Egypt (men on men and women on women.)  It's not even a "trying to slander Africa" deal because it was going on in Ancient Greece, Rome, China, and Mesopotamia too...

^^^Word everybody thinks their culture is above homosexuality, historical accounts say otherwise. I'm still waiting for dude to make excuses for the Chinese as well. And when he says that was a metaphor for cooking breakfast I got more where that came from.

I'm honestly not sure what the title of this thread is referring to so I'll go about this two ways.
First of all, contrary to what this thread title literally states, the LBGT community in the United States is fighting for their civil rights. There is much more at stake than being able to say that two people are married. There are legal issues that come with marriage rights that are denied to gay couples, and this is undoubtedly a civil rights issue. It is a question of equality for all citizens of the United States and just because you may not agree with or personally partake in the lifestyle does not give you the right to deny someone else theirs.

Secondly, if we're simply comparing this to the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s then there is a point. African Americans and other minority groups certainly did struggle through enormous amounts of opposition, but so has the LBGT community. Many states still had sodomy laws on the books up until the late 80s-early 2000s and they were only completely struck down in 2003 by the Supreme Court. The first state to grant same sex marriages didn't do so until 2004. As for struggle, the plight of homosexuals in New York City as well as other places in the United States is well documented in the book about the Stonewall Riots by David Carter. This includes discrimination on a large scale by the NYPD for as little as wearing sexually ambiguous clothing. There were also instances in other parts of the country in the recent past of homosexuals being put in mental institutions to be "fixed." In some cases the "treatment" was as extreme as forced lobotomies, and in others, castration. This "reprogramming" still goes on today, but is largely carried out by extreme religious organizations.

So, just because you aren't aware of the struggles of another group of people doesn't mean they didn't take place.

Well I can't honestly say something the "is gay", but maybe it's more of what is perceived as gay. So if by seeing happy gay couples or having accepting
parents, then yes, that could play a role. People are generally a product of their environment, so what they observe from birth is what they will become,
including going down different roads to divert you. And I would like to think it's the same for women, though the perception is that women don't nearly
catch as much flack for it than men. It just seems to be excepted more for women than men.

I would guess not. You, like any other rational human being, would want to eliminate the prejudice instead of bandaging the situation in such an insulting way.

Civil rights are civil rights
It's not hiding. They just don't have to disclose it. I don't walk around disclose how many times I sleep with my girl or all my sexual exploits. Why are gay people to adamant on letting the world know about their sexual orientation. It's not very courteous to the people who are grossed out by homosexuality or sexuality period.  Point is whoever you are having sexual relations with is not public info. Sex should be a sacred and private thing, but as we all have seen with our media in the past 30 yrs, we have definitely seen the decline of the sacredness of sex and the commercializing of it for business purposes, policy shaping, and social engineering.

For gay people to openly talk about their rights, they are practicing civil rights, but If I were to do it, I could get slapped with a ticket for indecency or verbal sexual abuse. It's gonna create a new playing ground for hypocrisy in lawsuits.

Plus the fact that as Americans, we are already catching flack around the world for our morals policy. Don't you think this is adding another bulls eye on our backs for fundamentalist to have something else to legitimize their arguments for attacking us.

They  now have gay task forces now in police departments. See where this is heading???
what? idk where your from but ive never once heard a gay guy walking around talking about all the men hes slept with, your just making up stuff
laugh.gif

and SMH at saying they should just hide the fact that there gay, how do u not see whats wrong with that? and being black doesent come with an on/off switch your right about that, BUT NEITHER DOES BEING GAY!

theres alot of ignorance being spewed in this thread

And to say Gay Civil Rights is not comparable to what we as black people went through is laughable....its not the exact same but its defenatly comparable

Im not taking either side with this comment, but seriously you guys are missing his point. No one is asking them to hide anything. In fact hide is the wrong word. Look at it this way; if a gay guy walks into a room full of hetero people, interacts with them for some time then leaves, no one would know whether or not he was gay. If a black person walks into the same room with in one second every person in the room would know he is black. No ones hiding anything and both men are acting normal/true to who they are. But, the difference is obvious.

I agree they don't have the same struggle, not in the least but both groups fought for/are fighting for a civil right; marriage. To me that's where the comparison starts and ends.

My whole thing is you can't be for civil rights for one group and not for it for another group.
