What difference does it make? Equality is equality, no? Why must there be this contest as to who has had it worse in this country?

It doesn't matter if I shoot it from 30 feet or 50 feet; three points is three points. Injustice is injustice. Black people in this country do not own the term "civil rights", and it only makes us look childish when we act as if we do.

but this is like a 23.5 footer compared to a 94 footer, though.

because looking at a "30 footer" in the same light as a "50 footer" downplays the difficulty of the 50 footer and how much harder it was for them to make that shot.
in otherwords, people don't like the comparison because it trivializes and marginalizes the struggle that black people fought and continue to fight.

To say it trivializes what our people went through only trivializes what the gays are going through right now. We should be honored that the gays are able to look to our struggle as a source of energy for their fight, but instead we chastise them for it. How does that make us look as a people?

As black people living in this country we should be standing side by side with the gays. We should be saying "look at what this country did to us for so long, we won't let it get that far with another group ever again". But instead we say "you didn't have it as hard as us".

If that's how some of you feel, fine. But I don't have the time to sit back and feel proud of the struggle that was for me, when there are people out there who are still struggling. Doesn't matter how little you think it is, struggle is struggle.

This is by no means sarcasm, but what LEGAL roadblocks to equality have homosexuals faced besides not being able to be recognized as legally married?

Obviously gays have faced many, many obstacles outside of the law books, but what other LAWS have made them unequal to their heterosexual counterparts?

The movements are apples and oranges, plua you can hide  you sexual orientation. However, I can not easily disguise my race,

The comparison is an insult to the legacies of King, X, Parks, etc. Completely downplays the difficulty of the struggle.

So if you could hide your race you would? If you could camouflage your race that somehow mitigates any of the injustices or prejudices your group may suffer. I'm tryna make sense of this.

The only people saying this downplays the struggle are people who have trouble with homosexuality being associated with blackness in any way. A group that has paved the way for all civil rights movements in America should be honored. MLK didn't only fight for black civil rights, he fought for all civil rights....ironically drawing inspiration and parallels to another civil rights movement.

Your ignorance is an insult to the legacies of Dr. King, X, and Parks.

Anton its simple lets step away from the homosexuality issue because for whatever reason alot of yall in here are blindly passionate about that one group.

Lets say Polygamists wanted to be recognized around the country with the same marriage laws as everyone else. Its a civil rights issue right?

Now can they seriously say its the same civil rights struggle as the one going on the 50s/60s?

It always stuck me as a daunting example of ignorance. Like gays can't get civil rights until they spend a century or two being hung from trees and hunted in society.

word, I'm sorry homosexuals started their struggle in a more progressive time in American society. Furthermore, black people in this country today have it way better than their ancestors.....does this mean black people today have no right to express grievances?
no it just means society is sick of black people using it to cope with personal problems... the number of times i hear black people using it as an excuse is pretty ridiculous
