and when i saw the title, i thought it was a done deal too.
okafor would be a solid addition, although it doesnt make sense since they want to shred salary, okafor could do wonders with cp3.

The Charlotte Bobcats are finalizing a trade that would send Emeka Okafor to the New Orleans Hornets for Tyson Chandler, two people familiar with the deal told The Associated Press on Monday.

The swap of 26-year-old centers could be completed later Monday, the people said on condition of anonymity because an official announcement has not been made. It was not immediately clear if more players would be involved.

The deal is another roster shake up for the Bobcats since Larry Brown took over as coach last season, and is a gamble because Chandler has been plagued by a left toe injury and recently underwent surgery.

Okafor was the No. 2 overall pick - after Orlando took Dwight Howard - in the 2004 draft. Okafor was the first pick in franchise history and the Bobcats re-signed him to a six-year, $72 million deal before last season.

The 6-foot-10 Okafor averaged 13.2 points and 10.1 rebounds for Charlotte last season. But Brown questioned his passion at the end of the season.

"I tease him that he's got an A in stretching and pilates and yoga. I want him to have an A in basketball,'' Brown said two days after Charlotte finished 35-47. "It makes older people feel great, but he's got to work on his game. ... There's no better guy than him, I just want him to have a passion to play the sport because it ends so quickly.''

Chandler is taller, at 7-1, but averaged only 8.8 points and 8.3 rebounds in an unsettling season that saw him traded to Oklahoma City, then returned to New Orleans. The deal was rescinded because the Thunder had concerns about a left toe injury.

Chandler later had a left ankle injury that kept him out of the Hornets' final playoff game. He underwent surgery on his toe and ankle in May, but Hornets officials said he would be ready for training camp.

The Hornets don't figure to have injury concerns with Okafor, who has played all 82 games in each of the past two seasons. While he is a solid rebounder, he has struggled offensively and is a poor free-throw shooter.

While Okafor has a longer contract, the players make about the same each year, making it an easier deal to fit under the salary cap. Chandler is owed $11.8 million in the 2009-10 season, and he could exercise his option for the 2010-11 season to increase that to $12.7 million.

Chandler's shorter contract could help the Bobcats get long-term salary-cap relief and lower payroll for owner Bob Johnson, who is looking to sell the team after deep financial losses.

Once completed, it would mark the fourth major trade for the Bobcats since Brown took his NBA record ninth head coaching job. The team, which will begin its sixth season in the fall, is still looking for its first playoff berth.

Wally did play some 4 this season though. Obviously he can't guard the upper tier 4s like Duncan or Garnett, but the Scalabrine's and Bonner's ofthe league as a back up.

That'd be a terrible move for Charlotte despite gaining some height at the C position.

@ Okafor playing center our West. When will people recognize that his natural position is PF. He's a double-double guy though. Still doesn't make sense for New Orleans to take on his contract.

Okafor is not a power foward

Because they are not trying to just do a salary dump. Okafor is defentily an upgrade over TC. The dude only missed 1 game over the last twoseasons and also he has averaged a double double over the past five season TC only once. And if Okafor can get the same boost he gave TC when he came to theHornets then it is a steal. If we address another big through FA we become relevant again.

his natural position is not PF, it always has and always will be a NBA center

what is he 6'10 or 6'11 and like 270

It's now official. Both of them graduated HS the same year. I think it was '01.

Okafor's natural position is PF. And he's 257, not 270. His skillset is set to being a center because he just rebounds and block shots. But, he's aPF in my book.

playing Okafor and West at the same time is going to be a joke, they are the same physical players with opposite skill sets

West can't guard and Oak cant score

and Paul will make Okafor slightly better, Tyson looked good there because he could catch the lob, people know how to play paul for the lob now and Oakdoesn't get nearly as high as Tyson and his long arms did

this seems like a rather silly move, seems like both teams just didn't really like what they had so they decided to try out the other teams center, atleast the Wilcox deal provided them with a new plan, a hint at direction, this just makes it seem like they are willing to make any move to save money whilestaying relevant so they arent forced to fire their coach and pay out his contract

the only way this makes sense is if the Hornets have a back door deal to send David West and parts to the Suns for Amare

Amare + JRich for West+Peja+Wright+Daniels all works

Oak - Amare - Posey - JRich - Paul

Lopez - West - Peja - Hill - Nash

Chandler complimented West a lot better due to his length. Okafor has like a 7'4" wingspan, but it will look weird seeing him and West in the samefrontcourt.

If Chandler is healthy in Charlotte next season, they will look pretty good actually. They almost made the playoffs in the East last season and they nowhave more height in the frontcourt. Put Diaw alongside Chandler and they look pretty good. Augustine or Felton, Bell, Wallace, Diaw, Chandler isn't bad.

They still don't have a legit go-to-scorer.

I think Okafor would make NO less reliant on the lob. They need to address their need for a scorer on the wing.

Maybe its just me but if you got 2 bigmen you want one that can score and the other that defends and hits the boards. thats what NO has in west and Okafornow
