Dwayne Johnson Has an Insane Number of Movies in the Works — Here's a Rundown

Moana

Johnson may boast a larger-than-life physique, but he’ll assume even grander form in Moana, an animated Disney release in which he voices Maui, a demigod who aids heroine Moana (Auli’I Cravalho) in her search for a fabled island. As the below video of Johnson performing a traditional Maori “Haka” suggests, he’ll be bringing his trademark intensity to his vocal performance. (Release date: Nov. 23)

Fast 8 (and possibly a franchise spinoff, and/or Fast 9 and Fast 10)

Johnson provided afterburner-grade electricity to the Fast and the Furious franchise when he joined in 2011 with Fast Five. He’ll again return to the fold for next April’s Fast 8, in which he reprises his role as DSA agent Hobbs. Last week, the actor posted a first photo of himself from the set via Instagram (sporting a badass biker look). The message that accompanied it made clear that he has additional plans for Hobbs — possibly in a spinoff film, or future Fast installments. (Release date: April 14, 2017)

Baywatch

For months, Johnson has been posting photos and updates about Baywatch, an action-comedy adaptation of the popular ’90s drama that will co-star Zac Efron and feature cameos from original stars David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson. Having just wrapped principal photography, and set for May 2017, it should be one of next summer’s earliest (and possibly biggest) hits. (Release date: May 19, 2017)

Jumanji

Later this fall, Johnson will begin production on a reboot of Jumanji, the Robin Williams-headlined 1995 fantasy adventure about a board game whose jungle creatures come to lethal life. Bad Teacher’s Jake Kasdan will be directing, and (as-yet-unconfirmed) rumors indicate that Johnson will be joined by his Central Intelligence co-star Kevin Hart. (Release date: December 2017)

Journey 3: From the Earth to the Moon and Journey 4

After assuming the reins of the Journey franchise from original star Brendan Fraser, Johnson has now set his sights on making two more sequels, which early reports imply may be filmed at the same time. While little fresh news has leaked about these projects, Journey 3 — in which Johnson and co-star Josh Hutcherson will travel to the moon — is slated to be directed by Brad Peyton (Journey 2, San Andreas). (Release date: TBA)

San Andreas 2

The 2015 original grossed $473 million worldwide, so it’s no shock that Johnson will return to combat more natural disasters in San Andreas 2. In this bigger sequel (also from director Brad Peyton), the focus will be on the Pacific Ocean’s “Ring of Fire,” a location that’s supposedly home to 90 percent of the world’s quakes — all of which Johnson will undoubtedly punch to death. (Release date: TBA)

Doc Savage

Two days ago, Johnson officially confirmed (through Instagram) that he’ll be starring in Doc Savage, an adaptation of the tales about the 1930s pulp hero (known as “The Man of Bronze”) directed by The Nice Guys’ Shane Black. A genius scientist-explorer-hero who’s “the perfect human specimen,” it should further establish Johnson as modern blockbuster cinema’s preeminent he-man. (Release date: TBA)

Shazam!

Rather than playing one of DC Comics’ famed heroes, Johnson will instead transform into “Black Adam” – a villainous anti-hero – in 2019’s superhero face-off Shazam! While no firm production date has been announced, the film is slated for a 2019 release (after DC’s Justice League), and will be penned by Goosebumps scribe Darren Lemke. (Release date: TBA)

Rampage

Having already proved adept at dealing with crumbling cities in San Andreas, Johnson will again try to save metropolises from disaster — this time, at the hands of gigantic monsters (a gorilla, lizard and wolf) — in an adaptation of Bally Midway’s beloved ’80s arcade game. Production is planned for later this year and will be overseen by Johnson’s San Andreas director Brad Peyton and writer Carlton Cuse (Lost), who’s working on the script with Ryan Condal. (Release date: TBA)

The Janson Directive

Robert Ludlum’s Jason Bourne novels have already been turned into a lucrative movie series, and now they’ll be tied into a greater “Ludlum Cinematic Universe” beginning with The Janson Directive, which will star Johnson as a private security expert who’s framed for murder. If it’s a success, it could potentially lead to future films in which Johnson’s character crosses paths with Damon’s Bourne — an idea that, in terms of box-office potential, boggles the mind. (Release date: TBA)

Big Trouble in Little China

John Carpenter and Kurt Russell’s 1986 martial-arts action-comedy classic is enjoying its 30th anniversary this summer, and it’ll soon get the remake treatment courtesy of Johnson, who’s been talking about launching a do-over for years. In a recent interview with Fandango, Johnson made it clear that it’s still one of his top priorities, stating “That’s happening, man! That’s happening, that’s happening. And again, that’s one of those things where you gotta take really good care of it.“ (Release date: TBA)

Jungle Cruise

Disney will try to duplicate Pirates of the Caribbean’s success by turning yet another theme-park ride – Disneyland’s original Jungle Cruise – into a multi-film franchise, this time with Johnson as its headliner. Early word is that the project (which will be written by Focus’s John Requa and Glenn Ficarra) will hark back to period classics like 1951’s The African Queen, albeit presumably with far more muscles than Humphrey Bogart ever had. (Release date: TBA)

Skyscraper

Apparently conceived in the same vein as Die Hard and The Towering Inferno, Skyscraper will send Johnson to China, where he embarks on an action saga set in a towering metropolitan high-rise. Legendary won a bidding war for the film (to the tune of at least $3 million for the script alone), which will be written and directed by Johnson’s Central Intelligence helmer Rawson Marshall Thurber. (Release date: TBA)

Alpha Squad Seven

Little is currently known about this upcoming film, except that it’ll be a Guardians of the Galaxy-style adventure that’ll be led by both Johnson and an as-yet-unnamed co-star. DreamWorks won a bidding war for the project, and is eyeing it as a potential out-of-this-world franchise. (Release date: TBA)

Seal Team 666

There have been scant reports about Seal Team 666 since it was first announced back in November 2013. Nonetheless, the film — which would star Johnson as a military commando whose squad finds itself battling unholy demons — sounds like the sort of all-out action extravaganza with which the star has made his A-list name. (Release date: TBA)

Rock is like the brolic version of Sam Jackson. Just taking anything offered to him now. I like Rock but not interested in many of the movies on the list.

What about the last Bond film?
Swagtista had great presence in Spectre. I think that train fight was one of the very few scenes where Bond was completely dominated.

Didn't he only have one line in the whole film?

spectre was hugely disappointing but Dave was awesome in it. Sucks that Craig's time as Bond ended with that movie.

So much potential wasted in Spectre, beyond the opening shot and Bautista washing bond movie was cheeks

John Boyega Gets in a Jaeger for Pacific Rim 2!

Legendary Pictures has tapped John Boyega as the lead role for the second installment of its Pacific Rim franchise. The film, which is targeting a 4th Quarter start date is rapidly taking shape as a key project on Legendary’s upcoming slate with Boyega playing the son of Idris Elba’s character from the original film.

The project will be directed by Steven S. DeKnight based on the world created by Guillermo del Toro and Travis Beacham. Thomas Tull, Mary Parent, Jon Jashni, and del Toro will produce the action adventure film along with Boyega and Femi Oguns under their Upper Room Productions shingle. Cale Boyter will serve as the film’s executive producer.

“It is undeniable that with all his talent and natural charm, John stands out amongst today’s generation of young leading men,” said Mary Parent, Legendary’s Vice Chairman of Worldwide Production.

“I am very proud and happy to welcome John into a fantastic sandbox. The ‘Pacific Rim’ universe will be reinforced with him as a leading man as it continues to be a multicultural, multi-layered world. ‘The World saving the world’ was our goal and I couldn’t think of a better man for the job,” stated del Toro.

John Boyega’s previous credits include Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Attack the Block. His upcoming projects include Star Wars: Episode VIII, The Circle opposite Tom Hanks and Emma Watson, Imperial Dreams, Watership Down alongside James McAvoy and Sir Ben Kingsley, and he will star on stage next year in “Woyzeck” at The Old Vic. He is represented by WME and Identity Agency Group in the UK and Hansen Jacobson.

The film will be distributed by Universal Pictures around the world with the exception of China.

Charlie Hunnam is a horrible actor and he was 1 of the worst things about Pacific rim. So hopefully he is out. Boyega is a much bigger star anyway

Superman is coming to Supergirl in Season 2
The CBS-turned-CW series is casting the iconic DC Comics superhero, who will appear in the first two episodes of season two.
It's a bird, it's a plane, it's ... the casting announcement everyone has been waiting for: Superman is coming to Supergirl.

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that the former CBS series will introduce the iconic DC Comics superhero when it moves to The CW in the fall. Superman will first be seen visiting his cousin Kara (Melissa Benoist) in National City at the beginning of the series’ second season. The role is currently being cast

"Greg [Berlanti], Ali [Adler] and I are beyond thrilled to welcome Clark Kent and his slightly-more-famous alter ego to the world of Supergirl," executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said. "Superman will be appearing in the first two episodes of the new season and we cannot wait to see who next dons the red cape!"

A young Kal-El played by Daniel DiMaggio was already seen in season one in flashbacks to Kara's life on Krypton, but this version will be the grown man the world already knows as Superman.

The casting will bring Superman back to The CW following the WB Network's former Tom Welling drama Smallville.

Who do you want to see take on the iconic role? Hit the comments below with your dream casting ideas.

Supergirl returns for season two on Mondays this fall at 8 p.m. on The CW.

I wonder who they get. Do they go with Tom Welling if he is welling to do it, or do they throw a screwball and have Brandon Routh be that Earths superman

boyega is a bigger star? I don't really think either are big stars anyway. Yeah, boyega was in sw but general audiences probably don't even remember his name.

i think you vastly underestimate the reach of Star Wars. Even if they don't know his name, they know Finn. I liked Sons of Anrchy and all but the general public ain't know nothing about that show

Yeah but are you a big star if people don't even know your name? You're just somebody they recognize from a popular movie.

Hope Boyega's role aint another bait and switch. He better be in that jaeger and not some grease monkey.

That Brandon Routh curveball would be lulz

I would approve

He's already on the CW anyway

What if that becomes the twist of the Flashpoint Paradox Barry initiated?

Ray Palmer doesn't exist anymore and Routh is just Superman or Earth 3 (I think that's where Kara is from?) Routh is Kal El.

Though I wouldn't mind seeing Tom Welling reprise the role.

Or just get Matt Bomer.
