Pacific Rim: Uprising Jaegers and first plot details revealed

Following the debut of the Pacific Rim: Uprising teaser trailer, the film’s viral site (GoJaeger.com) has revealed five new Jaegers that will be seen in the upcoming sequel! Read on to learn more about the Pacific Rim Uprising jaegers and check out their blue prints in the gallery below.

GIPSY AVENGER – Gipsy Avenger honors the heroic legacy of her namesake as the flagship leader of the Mark VI fleet. More than just a Jaeger, she is a symbol of hope to millions.

BRACER PHOENIX – A Mark V brute that can still run with the VI’s, Bracer Phoenix shoots from the chest, with a centrifugal vortex cannon that is as spectacular as it is deadly.

SABER ATHENA – The sleekest and most elegant Jaeger ever created, Saber Athena is the fastest in the fleet, wielding twin blades in hyper-acrobatic combat.

TITAN REDEEMER – Built for brute force and armed with a seismic morningstar, Titan Redeemer is the walking wrecking ball of the new fleet.

GUARDIAN BRAVO – Designed for combat at range, Guardian Bravo wields the Elec-16 Arc Whip: a proto-metallic successor to the chainsword, and brings a new sophistication to the chainsword’s whiplash move.

In addition, the website’s “timeline” offers a tease of what to expect from the sequel and dates itself as ten years after the first film. It notes:

“It’s been ten years since The Battle of the Breach and the oceans are still, but restless. Vindicated by the victory at the Breach, the Jaeger program has evolved into the most powerful global defense force in human history. The PPDC now calls upon the best and brightest to rise up and become the next generation of heroes. When the Kaiju threat returns, we will be ready.”

Formerly titled Pacific Rim: Maelstrom, Uprising stars John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Attack the Block), Scott Eastwood (The Fate of the Furious, Snowden), Jing Tian (The Great Wall, Kong: Skull Island), Wesley Wong (Buxiude Shiguang, Sorry I Love You), Lily Ji (Skiptrace, Transformers: Age of Extinction), Lan Yingying (Surgeons Story, Empresses in the Palace), Qian Yongchen (The War of Beauties, The Golden Age of the Leftover Ladies), Zhang Jin (Ip Man 3, Kill Zone 2), and newcomers Cailee Spaeny and Chen Zitong.

Directed by Steven S. DeKnight (Marvel’s Daredevil), Pacific Rim Uprising is based on the universe first created by genre film culture innovator Guillermo del Toro and Travis Beacham in the 2013 blockbuster Pacific Rim. Thomas Tull, Mary Parent, Jon Jashni, and del Toro are producing the new action adventure alongside Boyega and Femi Oguns under their Upper Room Productions shingle. Cale Boyter and Eric McLeod serve as the film’s executive producers.

Catch Pacific Rim: Uprising in 2D, 3D and IMAX 3D theaters February 23, 2018.

New Ghostbusters Movie Will Release in 2019?

The 2016 Ghostbusters reboot may not have been the jumpstart to the franchise that Sony hoped it wold be, but fans may only have to wait until 2019 for another Ghostbusters feature. That’s according to Ivan Reitman, director of the original two movies and producer of the recent all-female reboot, who clarifies that the future of the series is still moving forward at a healthy pace. He may have raised some eyebrows when he promised a ‘Ghostbusters shared universe’ of films despite the disappointing box office of the reboot, but his claim that a new movie is expected to release around Summer 2019 seems far more resolved.

Reitman offered the confirmation to fans attending San Diego Comic-Con during a panel focused on all things Ghostbusters (ranging from the films to comics and even Ninja Turtles crossovers). Reiterating the fact that he was overseeing development of both live-action and animated Ghostbusters movies, Reitman told those in attendance when they could expect to see one hit theaters – and why the date would have some significance.

For those who may not know, the original Ghostbusters hit theaters to surprise success starting in June of 1984. That means that the Summer of 2019 will mark the 35-year anniversary of Reitman’s original comedic hit – and when asked if the studio had any celebrations in mind for fans, Reitman claimed that a feature film was being planned to honor the occasion:

“Well, the studio is working on some really nice things. First of all, I can’t believe the movie is still playing and being watched so assiduously… and I can’t believe I’m so old. Yeah, I think there’s going to be a lot of fun, a lot of special things. We’re going to try to tie one of our films close to that date.”

For those who believe, like Reitman, that the Ghostbusters franchise is too strong a premise to be sidelined by a single perceived misfire, that claim seems like the producer backing up his claims that “many” more Ghostbuster movies were being developed. Yet for those who felt it a bit more likely that the 2016 reboot halted plans for a new series, and turned attention to an animated Ghostbusters instead, the release date Reitman is “trying” to make may be more optimism for the fans’ sake.

It’s worth pointing out that while Reitman had only kind words for the cast and creators of the 2016 reboot – unlike Dan Aykroyd’s criticism of Ghostbusters and its director – he stopped short of confirming whether the planned 2019 movie would be the animated feature, or live-action. And if live-action, whether it would continue with the cast of Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones… or start fresh (again).

Whatever the case, we won’t have to wait much longer to find out. Assuming the film is being planned for release in the Summer of 2019, then word of a writer, director, and cast to follow should be coming soon.

I hope the next Ghostbusters film is canon with the original two.

I watched the last movie and it was at times funny and had the lore of Ghostbusters, but I fell asleep halfway through the film.

They better get the script right if they are going to do another GB film.

You can have the best actors/actresses but if the script is trash everything else will be too.

The cameos from the original cast were trash too. :smh:

Universal’s Van Helsing reboot eyes Channing Tatum

Buried in a Hollywood Reporter article about the current status of several franchises is a little bombshell that Universal Pictures is courting Channing Tatum (21 Jump Street, Magic Mike) to take the lead in their Van Helsing reboot. The relaunch will be part of the studio’s ever-evolving Dark Universe, which got off to a rough start this summer with the Tom Cruise box office underperformer The Mummy. Cruise was originally courted for the Van Helsing role back in 2012 under writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci and director Rupert Sanders.

Todd McFarlane teams with Blumhouse for Spawn reboot

For years now, the prospect of a Spawn reboot has made the rounds in movie news, but the character’s creator Todd McFarlane has now taken to Facebook to officially announce that the film is coming and he has big guns behind him.

Todd McFarlane and his entertainment division (McFarlane Films) is partnering with Jason Blum and Blumhouse Productions, the producing force behind recent hits Get Out, Split, and The Purge franchise, to develop a feature film around the Spawn comic character created by McFarlane and published by Image Comics. McFarlane has written the first draft of the screenplay and is set to make his directorial debut in this dark exploration of one of comics’ most popular characters.

“Having worked with many visionary directors, I think Todd’s unique artistic talents will only add to his role as director of this film,” Blum said.

“We’ve gone from the theoretical to now we’re making movies,” McFarlane said. “Blumhouse. Spawn. Badass. R. Get ready for it, we’re going into production. No more talking, it’s time to do.”

McFarlane is known for reinventing the look of Spider-Man as well as co-creating the Venom character for Marvel Comics.

First appearing in 1992’s Spawn #1, the character quickly became the symbol for 1990s comics dark and brutal antiheroes. His Hellspawn powers allow him to teleport, shape shift, and utilize a variety of weapons (notably chains) in combat.
