Joss Whedon Denies Planet Hulk Storyline For The Avengers

But he's looking to The Empire Strikes Back for inspiration.
We've got some bad news for those of you excited by speculation that the plot of Marvel's The Avengers 2 or The Avengers 3 would centre around the Planet Hulk storyline: Joss Whedon has confirmed exclusively to IGN that this will not be the case.

When we sat down with the director to talk about his upcoming version of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, we couldn't resist asking if there was any truth to the rumours that future Avengers movies would make use of the Planet Hulk or World War Hulk storylines.

His reply, which can be watched in the above video, was, "Well I’m really not supposed to comment, but no, that’s nonsense."

Speculation that the next Avengers movie would be Hulk-centric began last month when Latino Review claimed that The Avengers 2 would end with Mark Ruffalo's Hulk shipped off Earth by the MCU's (Marvel Cinematic Universe) version of the Illuminati, which would in turn lead to one of Marvel's Phase 3 movies being a live-action Planet Hulk  film.

While it may be a bit disappointing to learn, it isn't hugely surprising to hear that Marvel isn't going to go ahead with the plot. We heard recently that an adaptation focusing on The Hulk rather than Banner would cause problems due to the lack of screentime afforded to Ruffalo, who has proved popular in the role.

So what does the future of Marvel movies have in store for us? Well, sadly, it looks like we're pretty much back to square one in terms of concrete info, though that hasn't stopped us speculating. Knowing Marvel and how tight-lipped the company tends to be, that'll probably have to do for now, though Whedon has been talking about the films he's looking to for inspiration.

"I've got the next story, and it's a corker," Whedon revealed to the latest issue of Time Out London. "I haven't even been thinking in terms of superhero movies. The films I've been thinking about are 'The Godfather Part II' and 'The Empire Strikes Back'. Those are the stars by which I chart my course."
Doesn't shoot down Latino Review's rumor. All it says is that Avengers 2 won't be Planet Hulk or World War Hulk.  Planet Hulk =/= Avengers movie. The standalone movie is still possible as one of Marvel's Phase 3 movies.

Yeah I am sorry but if that is on set already with make-up and all, she is just not giving that MJ vibe. They really needed to get this part right, this was redemption. :smh:

which makes sense.. you could steer the hulk movies in that direction

they could take the route of the first avengers animated movie "ultimate avengers".. after the first battle with the aliens, hulk turns on the avengers and they end up fighting him.. they could have something similiar happen towards the end whatever avenger movie they're on

then they move on to the hulk movie(s), with exactly how the planet hulk movie started with hulk being shipped off and a recorded message from tony stark and co playing (which would make sense in light of what happened at the end of avengers):

any details about transformers 4?

should just be a reboot and start it in the 80's so we can see all the old school models in live action lol

Actually, I really like her but it'd really show how good of an actor she is to be MJ. Cuz from what I've seen of her work that's kinda been the opposite of the roles I've usually seen her play. I'm laughing imagining her say the "Tiger" line not sarcastically. When you dig deeper in to MJ, I'm sure she can pull that off though.

But that's for a whole other future Spidey film cuz they're not writing her like the main MJ in this one anyway.

- "It's real simple. Momoa priced himself out of the running. Hence why APA will continue to be a joke in the agency culture. They lack muscle."
