Next Gen Xbox Reveal Confirmed for May 21

Even Steam which is almost universally loved does crap worst than this. Console gamers just never thought their time would come, and now that time has arrived they are rightfully
pissed. They will probably get over it. Just like PC gamers hated Steam at the being but cheap games and the convenience of if won them over.

I don't see cheap games in the XBOne's future, nor do I see much in the way of convenience.

What works for steam may not work so well for game consoles.

Why do publishers feel so entitled to used game sells (serious question)?

This dude on N4G made a great point regarding used games.

If I sell my car Hyundai doesn't get any money, sell my Jordans at a yard sale or to thrift shop they don't send a check to Nike.

As far as I know no checks are being sent out to any of the original makers when I sell something second hand. What makes these publishers so special that they need to get paid twice for selling one product?

What publisher is trying to do is change the way games are viewed.

Right now people view console games as property, no different from a car, bike, toaster or bed. You pay for it, it is yours and no one can you how to use it or what you can do with it (as long as it is legal).

But pubs want games to be like other software. Where you are not buying the a piece of property but a license to use a service/prgram (in the case the game). Same way MS/Abobe/Apple controls their software. You can get a copy of Windows anywhere, hell you can pirate it, but if you pay MS for a license they don't eem care.

My homeboy made a good point. What is happening now would be like telling people in 1998 that when they buy CDs from Coconuts Music that they now need to go online and check with Def Jam on how/where/when you can listen to the music. And making sure they now if you give it to your homeboy.

-I can see the new hustle being dudes selling their entire accounts.

-And Pubs are doing this because current game prices can't support current AAA development. But I would have honestly been willing to pay extra for games than have to put up with this crap

said it better than I could. They are trying to reteach the consumer base. So 10 years from now, people wouldnt even think to sell a game.

Damn Rusty, you sure sound oblivious.
At least he doesn't act snarky and replies with how he really thinks. You just disregard information once you get stumped.

You just said what we already know. This isn't news. My point is they're doing this because they know you have no choice but to accept when you SHOULDN'T. If a game was the way it was for more than 20 years, a publisher trying to make a quick buck shouldn't be able to change that.

Do you honestly think this is acceptable? It's not like this movies or music but for games it should be?

:lol

Please.

Ninety-Nine percent of what you've contributed to this thread has been typical PC gamer elitist rhetoric which is inherently laced with snark.

aren't games like COD breaking records with sales? i doubt game company's are struggling right now. they just greedy

But Activision is such a huge company and CoD has a enormous following (for some reason).

I mean THQ went bankrupt a couple months ago ..

yo those little regulations/rules MS just announced my goodness. :x **** just became even more complicated. This is just crazy. Instead of buying the game and going home to play it right away, you gotta read instructions to properly use the product and heed the warnings of the ownership/ownership transfer. How did something so simple as playing video games become this much of a hassle. :{

If Sony pulls the same thing at their E3, man I don't even want to :x

Nintendo must be giddy over all this bad PR from MS. And if Sony does the same thing, WiiU will seriously gain some momentum.

Don't even know if I want to buy a "next gen" system anymore. This **** is just crazy. |I

In my mind:

Sony is either doing the same, or their version of exactly what Microsoft is doing. Maybe not to the extent, but at this point, they have to be.

Nintendo may see a soft spike in sales after E3, but that will be based entirely on 1st party games. NO ONE is making Wii U games. 3rd party support is laughable.

So if you want to play your favorite games, you have to deal with it. That seems to be the unfortunate truth right now. Moaning and complaining will get some movement and maybe some minor concessions, but I think at this point publishers feel like they went through enough BS last gen.

So you can vote with your wallet, as thats the only thing either company cares about. But I know people, myself included, will eventually give in when their game of choice comes out. :{

they have to answer to stockholders. its not about being greedy. its business. Plus video games cost millions to make. they have recoup that money, plus put money into games that wont do blockbuster sales, but are still good.

its funny. Its okay when gamers get greedy, but a company cant. no way

pretty much. Gamers are gonna have to get down or lay down. Or buy a wiiu... Nah that wont happen.

Microsoft & XBOX One are heading down the same fatal path Circuit City tried with Divx back in the 90's:

I wonder how long it will take before both systems are hacked for complete offline use. Does anyone else think this may lead to "Jail-Breaking" systems similar to what people did with the Iphone?
Hackers will always try and hack consoles but I remember reading the PS3 hacking scene and it was kind of dead.
With so many games relying on the internet for multiplayer, it's not as attractive as before.

Still with the backlash that has happened It won't surprise me if this motivates people to hack it just for hacking sake.

This is the first console generation where you can't go to your friends house and bring your games.

Hold your horses. Let's see what Sony does first.

I don't see people flocking to the Wii-U, it's third party support is pretty abysmal.

I think MS got this out of the way so that they could soften the blow with the games they'll have to show at the conference.
Games wasn't enough to detract from $599 when Sony showcased the PS3 at E3. If sony has something similar and they don't tell the press until after the conference then it could detract from the games.

I've never been so excited and tense at the same time for E3. I think Sony will have a system for publishers but it won't be as bad as MS'.

But no one buys a nintendo system for 3rd party though. It's always about the Marios, Zeldas, Pokemon, Donkey Kong, SSB, etc. The nintendo exclusives no one else has.

gamestop gonna love it actually

theyre going to be one of these "participating" retailers

what this system does is nullify your ability to sell your "license" on craigslist/amazon/ebay at a better price than gamestop

now gamestop and other participating retailers will actually control THAT price

dont like gamestops 20 dollar offer?  too bad, its not like you can sell it to your neighbor for 45 or even 21 :lol

Where is this Game Stop that gives $20 for used games?

I remember the most I could get for a fairly new game that was still factory sealed was like $12-$13. A couple years ago I was going to sell GTA IV after I had thoroughly exhausted it. I only played it like 3 times after I thought about selling it. Game Stop wanted to give me $8 for it. They were still selling it used for like 40 something. They sell fairly new games used for like $5-$10 less than retail and still give you like $6-$8 in store credit. You have to spend more money at one of their stores to make use of it or you just gave your game away.

I see Microsoft coming back an saying "ahhh that's all just a misunderstanding..... None of that is true wink wink" and changing a lot of stuff around. All that sounds horrible.
