Raiders turned it around, and the Giants are doing a hell of a good job, too.
IMO Ware's contract is the iffy one. Talib's deal isn't as bad once you get into the details. After all that, Raiders are playing free agency very smart. Though it wouldn't have hurt to retain their own players. Meanwhile I think some of the "winners", namely the Broncos, are going to regret some of the huge contracts they handed out (Talib).
Retaining Veldheer should have happened and it was a serious mistake on McKenzie's part. Other than that he's been nailing every signing with very team-friendly deals.
I suppose the Talib contract isn't as huge as it looks, thanks for the info. Though ultimately, if he gets injured or is inconsistent it will still be way too much for those first three years, and if he puts together a whole season at his best it will be a good deal.

Only the first year $ is fully guaranteed. Here’s how the six-year, $57 million contract (it’s really a three-year, $27 million deal as you’ll see) the Broncos gave cornerback Aqib Talib:
2014
*$5 million signing bonus
*$4.5 million salary (full, skill/injury/cap guarantee)
*$2 million roster bonus due on March 17 (full guarantee)
*$31,250 bonus for each game he’s on the 46-man, game-day roster. If he plays in all 16 games, he gets $500,000.
*2014 total: $11.5 million, chance to make another $500,000 if he plays in all 16 games
2015
*$5.5 million salary (injury guarantee; becomes full skill/injury/cap guarantee on third day of free-agency.)
*$31,250 bonus for each game he’s on 46-man, game-day roster.
*2015 total: $5.5 million, chance to make another $500,000 for playing in all 16 games.
2016
*$8.5 million salary (injury guaranteed; becomes full skill/injury/cap guarantee on third day of free agency).
*$31,250 bonus for each game on 46-man, game-day roster for chance to make $500,000.
*2016 total: $8.5 million, chance to make another $500,000 for playing in 16 games.
2017
*$11 million salary (no guarantees)
2018
*$11 million salary (no guarantees)
2019
*$8 million salary (no guarantees)
That last three years were what the industry often refers to as phony money because rarely do players collect the back-end of such contracts. This is really a three-year, $27 million contract. Still, $9 million a year isn’t bad.
Your boy Browner's deal with the Patriots is VERY team-friendly.
There isn't enoughThe Patriots signed cornerback Brandon Browner to a three-year contract, and here are the specific details, which add important context:
Total value: $12.35 million
Maximum value: $16.8 million
Signing bonus: $0
2014
Base: $1 million (guaranteed)
Offseason workout bonus: $250,000
Roster bonus: $500,000 for making the 53-man roster at any point during the season (just has to be on it for one day and he sees this)
Second roster bonus: $150,000 per game he's on the 46-man roster
Playtime incentives: Up to $1.25 million
2015
Base: $1.9 million
Roster bonus: $2 million (90-man roster at start of league year)
Second roster bonus: $100,000 per game he’s on the 46-man roster
Playtime incentives: Up to $500,000 ($250k for 75 percent playing time; another $250k for 85 percent playing time)
2016
Base: $1.9 million
Roster bonus: $2 million (90-man roster at start of league year)
Second roster bonus: $100,000 per game he’s on the 46…
Playtime incentives: Up to $500,000 ($250k for 75 percent playing time; another $250k for 85 percent playing time)
QUICK-HIT THOUGHTS: From a team perspective, the guaranteed financial commitment is just $1 million (base salary for 2014). Everything else Browner earns will be based on performance and participation in the offseason program. A key marker in the contract is the $2 million roster/option bonus for Browner if he’s on the 90-man roster at the start of the 2015 league year. This contract is a bit different from the norm because of Browner's suspension, which, based on the language and clauses of the contract, was clearly a consideration in negotiating the deal.I can post for how Darrelle Revis handles his bidness. It obviously helps that his game keeps him in a position of power...but there probably isn't another non-QB in the league who uses leverage as well as he has. Might be the closest thing the NFL has to Pretty Boy Floyd.
Probably. Veldheer to Arizona also made a ton of sense at the price. The Revis deal imo is the best deal of the offseason so far.
That was also a very good one.I'm biased but Verner's deal was the best value and fit of the offseason so far IMO.

Veldheer? Yes but LaMarr Houston and his 4 sacks a season for 5/35+ yea I'm glad we let him walk
