I’d say that’s a knee jerk REACTion.

sorry for the low Q file, but I was just doodling while working on something else..
If Nike don't use something very much like this for those hybrid thingys then I'll be very surprised..

Finally back from travel and was able to try the Phantoms that have been sitting in my mailbox. For me, they run tts, and actually are as tight as my ER1s in the forefoot, which is very tight.

I also feel a slight pinch in the achilles heel area at bottom of rear pull tab. But I don't understand why. I have stared at that location in the ER1, ER2, and Phantom, and they all look identical. But the ER1 and ER2 do not pinch, and the Phantom does a little bit.

The pinch has got to be something to do with the shape of the inner heel reinforcement.. The blisters I got were from straight horizontal pinches about 1/4" wide.

The inner heel reinforcement seems rubbery/grabby. My best guess is where the flyknit and top of inner reinforcement meet, the skin/sock gets grabbed/rubbed/pinched.

I won't know if this is a problem until I run a few miles in them. Which I'm not, as I already boxed them up for return. The MC CW looked horrible to me in person. Almost a solid purple, and nothing like the Nike photos.

But at least they were a perfect tts fit for me, so my iDs should fit great when they arrive. Now I'm tempted to order some more iDs before they're gone.

Notice a trend?

I wish the red upper option faded to a darker color in rear like the green, blue, and purple uppers.

Apologies, hate to be that guy...but for those well versed in the ERs, are the 1 and 2 essentially the same? I just never ended up buying a pair after the popping problem with the launch CW.

There are subtle differences. To some people, they will feel identical. To others, completely different.

The ER1 has a heel strap between forefoot and heel inside that can make it difficult for the opening to stretch to put on. The ER1 has large inner lace hole reinforcement panels that prevent the flyknit from stretching as much as it could. The ER1 has a glued on swoosh that also prevents flyknit from stretching a bit. The ER1 has a softer inner heel support made of compact foam and synthetic suede. The ER1 has a softer TPU external heel counter that goes higher. The ER1 has narrower laces that can cut into your foot if you like to tie your laces tight.

The ER2 has no heel strap,. The ER2 has smaller independent inner lace hole reinforcement panels that allow the flyknit to stretch more. The ER2 has a floating swoosh that is held on by the edges only so that the rest of flyknit can stretch. The ER2 has a harder more rigid inner heel support. The ER2 has a smaller but more rigid outer external heel counter. The ER2 has wider laces that are more comfortable.

Nike claimed ER2 had the "next gen React midsole" but I can't tell any difference. I think it is only marketing.

For most people, the ER1 was a snugger fit in the top mid foot area, while the ER2 was a bit more comfortable. If I stare at the pictures long enough, it looks like Nike did change the weave of the flyknit a bit in the middle of upper, though it might just be my imagination.

Much appreciated, very thorough!

I'd still like to try both, but it sounds as though the 2s are a worthy successor. Just need better CWs
