NT, What Beer Do You Drink?

Stone Brewing can do NO WRONG with me... (even that green tea limited edition they brought out for SF beer week... i told all my beer snob friends i hated it... i secretly loved it.)

NINKASI BREWING CO.'s Imperiale High Gravity Stout right now.
mmm mmm good.

glad to see racer 5, stone, sierra nevada and russian river getting some love in here.
Real talk: I love Stone, but Old Guardian Belgo was pretty atrocious.  Everything else by them is on point.

can't drink ruination anymore

that was one of the first few craft beers i tried. then i tried it again a few months later and hated it

it's really the only IPA i think I've tried that I just can't stand, I think it's just over the top, which matches the name.....
After taking my first sip of Ruination just now, I have to go on record and say you're buggin'.  This ranks somewhere in my top 5 IPAs.

It's cool, though.  Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks.

i think everyone agrees that the belgo version of both old guardian and IRS were bad

Red Ale but it's not too red. Closer to an Amber Ale w/ nice white head and caramel flavor. Hop smell is strong its so floral.

I think I'm going to run down the store and cop another real quick

Huge update. I got to try a whole new range of beers while in NY this past month.

Did the whole tourist thing in Times Square.
Went by a local grocery store and picked up a few variety 12 packs.
Stopped by a few hole in the wall places and found some gems.
--------

Heartland Brewery Times Square... Nothing truly stood out as must tries once again. Their oatmeal stout was respectable to other above average stouts. I drank that one twice, while merely sampling sips of the others *the others were decent. But far from spectacular.

House of Brews.. Offered a dozen of so beers on tap, and many more bottled. Here I had a bottled Allagash White... What an amazing beer you guys have at your disposal year round in the NE. It reminds me very much to a hefeweizen like kellerweis.. I guess that would be a similar substitute that I could pick up that would be 'close'.

I believe it was at HoB where I tried a Founders Centennial IPA. Much like the other highly rated IPAs, this one was solid all around.
---------
Other beers I was able to buy in store.

Brooklyn Brewery Variety Pack... Lager, Pilsner, Brown, and I believe East IPA. Nothing in here was dreadful. But the crispness and clean taste other breweries achieve, just isn't here for their beers... They remind me a lot of Shiner (out of Texas) beers

Yuengling Traditional Lager. This stuff was the cheapest I found without going for the Bud. It drinks a bit heavier than its 4.4% abv. If I had it readily available, it would be one of those cheap backup pickups.

Bluepoint Variety Pack... Hoptical Illusion, Blueberry, Toasted Lager, Summer Beer. Nothing outrageously bad or good. Much like the Brooklyn variety pack, I don't know if I would buy these guys again with such competition around for beers. I would find a place that had something else

South Hampton Double White- I loved the booze factor combined with the white ale taste. Good stuff if you like this style

Victory Hop Devil
... I tried the Hop Wallop Double IPA months back, so I was glad to be able to try something else from Victory. My type of IPA right here. Almost every Victory Beer I have tried, I would buy again and again

Six Point Crisp and Six Point Sweet Action.. These guys were a nice surprise. One a hoppy cream ale, the other a german pils. Maybe the best of the bunch vs. the others I tried.

I stopped by Captain Lawrence Brewery in Elmsford, NY. Nice place there. Sample pretty much all you can handle for a really good price. A lot of choices. The ones that stood out (and im not sure if they are bottled) were the Baltic Porter, IPA, and Imperial IPA. The others were a bit above average. But they seem to experiment enough to where they may make something truly breathtaking.
-------
The true gems of the show were Allagash White on draft, and Founder's Breakfast Stout. Finding the Stout was a bit of a lucky experience. The first place we wanted to eat at was too busy, so we tried this other place right out of the phone pages basically, and they happened to have that guy on draft... I'm in love with this one. Drank my 3 pints and was in heaven. Drinkability on this one is truly remarkable. Nothing really stood out as being too strong, or too potent. It was much like the Russian Imperial Stout by Rogue, but much more creamy, and overall, that makes a difference.

Allagash White was great in a bottle and even better on tap...

Now I realize these beers are available in likely 20-30 states already. But not mine. So trying all these this time around was a real treat. The beer distribution system is all jacked up though. I get my share of Colorado beers where I currently live, so to not have those available in the NY area is a downer.. There are probably gems where ever you may live. You just have to find them.

^ I'm glad we're on the same page about Blue Point and Brooklyn Brewery.  My friends look at me funny when I try to explain to them that there's nothing special about their beers and if they weren't local they wouldn't care about them.  Though some of their better beers aren't gonna be available in a variety pack (Blue Point Oatmeal Stout/Rastafa-Rye, Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout/Black Ops, etc.)

I love Bluepoint Toasted Lager and Brooklyn Pennant Ale

Birthday Booze from last weekend. A drinking buddy of mine bought me the Chimay, the Allagash and the Walk on Water. That thing is 14%! Bonus cameo by the Maker's Mark.
Hope to crack the beers this weekend.

How are the Oskar Blue brews??? Old Chub looks like a must try and prob the Dales Ale as well

I had about 8 or 9 Guinness pints last night. No real hangover after a solid 8 hours of sleep, but man, been dropping dueces all day :rollin

Sorry for the TMI...had to share though

Went to Lagunitas while I was up in Berkeley for my sisters graduation. Also visited Napa with all the wineries and Pyramid (where I have been before).

Recommend all, especially Lagunitas if ur an IPA fan.

Dales pale is solid. If you like stouts tho, try the Ten Fidy. One of my favorite stouts. Bit pricey for a four back but well worth it.

Found this in the back stock at work. Christmas in may

Started off this holiday weekend with a sampling on Friday Night. Myself and a few others got about 3 ounces of each.

Shiner premium was a new one I hadn't seen from them before. I'm not a fan of their bock or pretty much any other (mediocre overall) so this one was worth a single purchase. Crisp, pilsner like taste. Would buy again

Shipyard summer ale. This one had a bit of a hop bit. Similar to a pale ale.

Yella pils was a bit of an average tasting pilsner. When you have weihenstephaner pilsner at your disposal, you can expect something to compete. This one Did not.

Rogue dead guy ale was drinkable. Nothing too memorable about it

Noble pils we have had before. Great aroma and that followed thru with the taste.

Out of New Mexico is the Sierra Blanca Nut Brown. Gold medal winner at the 2012 GABF. It's right in my backyard and a very nutty flavor persists in this brew. A hybrid of sorts between a brown ale and a stout.

When buying singles, I try really hard not to look at review scores and just try to sample them on my own. More times than not, the BA score is just about right in their overall assessment.

Pretty darn good. I kind of dismissed them for a year or two until just recently. Dale's Pale Ale is almost on the hop scale of an IPA. But it's very crisp and refreshing. I call it a strong hop bite initially in your mouthfeel, but it doesnt last through to where it stays on your tongue, like almost every other IPA around. So it's a nice burst of hops.

I had their Yella Pils just the other day. Not earth shattering stuff but it was solid. Tasted like many other pilsners out there.

Speaking of TEN FIDY from the guy above. I just picked this one up Friday. Ran me about $13/4 pack... Trying it today as I type this... Simply amazing. At 10.5%, you taste the alcohol, although some of it is hidden. Other stouts can get by with hiding all of the flavors. But this rings in around 8%. On a comparison scale, this one has a bit of the fruit taste in the mouthfeel. The raisins etc.. But it's nothing like the Victory Storm King Imperial Stout... This Oskar Blues beer is top notch.
--------
Saturday was a short trip to two breweries....

There we had a Cream Ale, an Irish Red, and a Belgian 10% Tripel that smelled and tasted amazing..... At the other place, we ended up picking up 4 growlers of goodness... An award winning IPA, a Collaboration beer with New Belgium featuring corn *the beer was a belgian style ale, a beer brewed with Simcoe hops (This one smelled absolutely great), and tasted even better. That was followed up with a lighter Pale Ale. All have been nothing short of heavenly

-----------
Today has been a tasting of some random left over beers in the fridge... Left Hand Milk Stout continually impresses me, even in this dreadful heat. Weihenstephaner Hefe is up next today. Maybe finish off some growlers.

Amazing beer is out there. The trek to try it all continues.

Wally I live in Boston. Allagash White pratically comes out of the faucets here. If you ever need a shipment just let me know.

We hit up the Allagash Brewery in Portland Maine last summer and got a few bottles of their curieux, tripel, and something else I forgot. A White was one if my gateway beers. I don't get it much anymore but it's nice in the summer.

Tried Lagunitas Undercover Shutdown Ale on draft today. Great beer with a deceptive amount of drinkability for its 9.8% abv.
