the trigger on it is lonnng as hell. So when you're pulling the trigger back, you have to really pull it back to fire.
it's just the opposite of what I'm used it, my XDm is night and day compared to the SW. it has a really short trigger.

don't get me wrong, I appreciate the SW. if you're concealing it (which it was meant for) you don't want that trigger to be engaged easily(accidentally), thus the reason you have to really squeeze that joint to make it go bang. lol

laser = personal preference.
if you are using it for home defense, a laser/light can be a good idea in the unfortunate event you are ever forced to use it in the dark..

if you're buying brand new they usually will offer it with a laser, or at a cheaper price point, without. You can always add one at a later date too.

^^ I got to shoot my neighbors ruger lcp9 with laser. I think for a small gun like those micro compacts, a laser is def beneficial, as the sights aren't nearly as good as a full sized pistol.

Even though your looking at .380 pistols, you might want to think about going up to a 9. Lots of good, affordable choices in 9mm sub compact pistols like the S&W shield and Kahr CW9. The price for those is about $50 higher than the .380's your looking at, but IMO, well worth it. 9mm ammo is going to be cheaper than .380, and much more effective. Those 9's are still small enough to keep in your pocket too, as long as you aren't wearing jeggings.

Got a few more things in/coming in.

I had to take advantage of Bravo Company's upper sale. Free bolt carrier group AND BCM comp with 16" uppers. And they didn't jack the prices either, same prices they've always been. Wanted a 16" middy, but they were OOS, so I ordered a 16" carbine and double heat shield handguards for $470 shipped.

Of course an hour later I found out Palmetto State Armory had Colt 6720's for 799 flat, no tax, no shipping. Ironically enough, I have been trying to trade my 14.5 BCM to fund a Colt AR or colt 1911. I figured I'll never see a NIB colt for that price again, so I copped.

Figured I needed to get rid of something, so I sold my 14.5" upper (minus charging handle) for $440.

Still gonna take a couple of months to pay for that colt though. oh well.

Realistically, that's a few years away. I did recently find out WC will allow you to put $500 down and set up monthly payments until your pistol is ready. $500 down, and 220 a month for a year (even though wait times are a bit longer, it think), I think I can do that.

I appreciate the info. fellas! I currently have a glock 26 which is a 9. Just looking for something smaller for work, possibly to have on the ankle.

I have a longer clip in th g26 to make the grip fit in my hand better. I'd definitely have to get one for the 380 too since it's so small.

Just picked up the M&P Shield 40.  I love the size of it and it feels real familiar to my full size M&P 40. The only real tradeoff is that I lose a round compared to the 9mm. The way I figure it tho, is that if I'm going thru more than one mag, I'm already screwed. Other than that, good little gun. 

I considered getting the Bodyguard .380, but the trigger pull is too heavy(9ish lbs), the reset is SUUUPPPPERRRR long and the gun is hammer fired. I understand that the trigger is supposed to serve as a safety, but it was just really, really bad.  If I had to get a .380, it would probably be the Glock 42, and I am not a Glock person at all.

G42s are like any other Glock, expensive. It'll probably be between $400-$500. Compare that to the bodyguard which is in the mid $300 range. I guess you get what you pay for tho.

7mm rem mag from a remington 700. 100 yards out. First time shooting it, trying to get it zeroed. First few shots went high and left. Last 3 were within an inch
Damn thing kicks like none other and is def. overkill for the range
Gonna pick up another 700 in .308 this week.

Depends on your purpose. If you only have one 'carry' gun, or shoot pistol a lot more than rifle, I'd go g26.

Then again if you have somewhere to let the AR stretch it's legs, and shoot rifle more. I'd go colt.

It might be an unpopular opinion, but I always feel like a pistol is more usable than a rifle.

I just bought a colt, and I probably shoot rifle 4-5 times per year. But @ the price, plus we're getting closer to election (and the next panic) made me jump on it.

If it's less than $1000, i'd go colt

I have a 21sf and I can confirm it's a solid platform. It's probably one of my favorite glocks. Size-wise it fits my fairly large hand very nicely. It does kick a lot more compared to other .45s such as a 1911 due to it being so lightweight. 13 rounds of .45acp is a blessing in such a small package and there's also a wide availability of affordable mags. So far it's fed all types of ammo that I've put in it with only 1 malfunction (stovepipe) and that was most likely user error (limp wristed while shooting 1 hand :\). Most ranges I visit have a 21 for rent, usually about $10. I'd do that and form your own opinion on it.

Recently, with the Ferguson and Powell shootings, people on my local forum keep talking about how it's important to own a gun etc.

I've never felt my life was ever in danger, to the point where I needed a gun. The one time, where I've had guns drawn upon me by police, was a case of mistaken identity.

Anyway, question is, have some of you grown up, where it's necessary to have a firearm for protection? And if so, is it more common than I realize?

I just started carrying so I'm not the best person to give advice, but I'd carry even if I didn't feel as if my life was in danger for the simple fact anything could happen. We don't live in a perfectly utopian society unfortunately something could hit the fan at anytime and you don't want to not be prepared. However, I don't suggest using a gun on a police officer at anytime...

I didn't mean against the police, but life in general.

Here, I think there are 7 people total in honolulu county who have a ccw permit. All of them are connected to local pd. There seems to be more people killed by officers using guns, than civilians using guns .
It's illegal to have a firearm in your vehicle, unless you are driving to the range or back, or to the police station and back. (I think gun store counts as range)
Let's say, you are a legal owner, who stops by 7-11 for a slurpee, officer sees a gun box (since that's what it needs to be in) in your vehicle, he can arrest you, and take your gun, since you now are a felon, you can no longer own the gun.

So you can see how it's a royal pita to own a gun here.
