I haven't read any of those reports so you guys might be right. I don't pay that close attention to the numbers like some of you do. I'm just saying, you talk all that **** about you want to win and money isn't a problem, take less money.

Same. What's more important here, Melo? Winning or money? If you win more, you'll get more opportunities to make more money -- what a no brainer! Take the pay cut & allow Phil "The Zen Master" to do his job & bring in Pau Gasol to work along side his buddy Josè Calderon so that next season, Marc Gasol wants to head down here too. Melo's gotta think seriously about his legacy. He won't have one if he chooses $$$ over rings, selfishness & greed over eternal wealth of memories and making history.

So what's the consensus, would you guys rather he walk and keep the cap room or him get the max and stay?

Unless he took a one year MLE or something like that, we're still over the cap fambros. Bargs, STAT and now Calderon's contracts guarantee that.

That's why the franchise is offering what they are. They are actually saving 900K by offering him a 5 year max deal. $22,458,401 going forward vs the $23,333,403 he got last season. The cap situation remains the same regardless, Dolan's just saving a little on the luxury tax.

It's all about the 2015 offseason at the end of the day. That's when we'll have enough for another max contract and roster spots to fill.

Might as well set the foundation now, tune it up in 14/15, take it to the next level in 15/16 with another star and some vets and hopefully win something within the next 5 years.

If you look through the last 20 pages or so the general consensus is there is no preference. We'll understand and be happy we still have one of the best scorers if he takes the max and if he leaves we have great flexibility and will only have more next year and the year after.

Lets say he walks...whats the game plan after that?

Have Derek start his coaching career learning to run the triangle through Bargnani and JR Smith?....that's putting him in a position to fail.

Do we tank so we get a top pick, then try to lure a top player to a rebuilding team in the harshest media market in the world...where another star just bolted from? Who's gonna wanna do that? Didn't we learn anything from the 2010 free agency fiasco? The best we could do was STAT in the most talent packed free agency in history. It would be that 2010 team all over again. 1 star, bunch of mediocre pieces.

There's no rebuilding in NYC through the draft, no one here is patient enough for that...just look at this thread for proof. And ain't no guarantee with the lottery anyway, even in a best case scenario...just look at Cleveland.

Might as well lock up one star, get some good pieces around him, start our new coach off on the right foot, get another all star in the summer of next year, fine tune the roster and go all out from there.

It will be the first time that we have two legit stars since our championship runs in the 70's. Thats the best possible course of action imo.

2 All-Stars in their prime, hungry veteran pieces that complement our stars and the Zen Master puppeteering the triangle offense behind the scenes. Sounds like a recipe for success to me.

It's never failed Phil before.

Yes. If he walks, Derek works with what we have for one year (more minor additions would be made obviously). Dont tank, but just work with what we have. Plus if we're gonna have a bad season, this is the one to have it, before an offseason in which we own our first rounder. We dont own one for 2, probably 3 years after that.

Plus Love, Rondo and M. Gasol are FA's next offseason. If Melo dips, I believe only THJr, Calderon, JR and the guys that were just drafted and traded for will be under contract (all rookie contracts) and Shump will be a restricted FA. JR will be extremely movable in his last year if need be. Thats insane flexibility.

Sounds like the same pipe dream we're waiting on in LA, one guy is taking up 30% of the cap and we're hoping to land somebody of help over these next couple summers. It's going to be tough even with Phil. I doubt Love even makes it to free agency next summer. So it'll more than likely be you guys and us battling for Rondo and Marc :x . Not exactly putting either one of us over the top.

Not neccessarily. A lot depends on how what we have already develops. For us its Shump, thjr, larkin, ya'll got Randle. Its a process.

I'm not gonna lie if it wasnt for Phil being here I wouldnt be so laid back about it but its hard not to be a bit optimistic with THAT guy on your side.

Any yall talking about Melo can walk is crazy. Must want the Knicks to stay living in squalor. I mean yall talk like there's another superstar right around the corner that gonna join up.

Plus that build through the draft talk is nonsense. As long as Dolan is the owner that'll always not be a real option I mean build through the draft? For how many years. I'm not even sure Phil could survive if he addressed the media right after Meo dips and says we're gonna build through the draft That is not any comfort to a NYK fan.

Even if we got Rondo, Marc, and Love that isn't a sure fire guarantee for championships in this weak East. That's a final appearance come up short core.

Nice to see a Laker fan be realistic about his team chances and pointing out the comparisons. Only con is that Kobe is older. The Buss family need to smarten up and find the next ball icon/legend to helm their team's affairs from here on out. No more of this bull ****. Kobe is gonna have to retire soon so time to get a coach in place and put Mitch on notice that things really need to look like there's a firm focused direction for the team. Then again Lakers don't need that much hope or support cuz knowing their luck, in the next 3 years they'll luck out wit a draft pick or Westbrook will get fed up losing with Durant and go to LAL with a few other young stellar players and regain relevance.

This right there is why im chill in regards to this Melo situation, I hope he stays but if he doesn't then I know Phil going to have a Plan B, He would be foolish to come into this job and not have a 2nd plan for if \ when Melo leaves

What the hell is going on in the laker thread? :| :lol :{

omg if we could find a way to get melo and bron...with no coach...is there a way phil could quit on nyc and come back to us? we'd need him for that lockerroom. I'd shed tears b.

This thread is comedy. Now y'all don't want to give Melo the max, but if he walks you'll tear him to shreds. Idk why nobody respects this guy.

Majority of us are indifferent on the matter as said time and time again. If he stays cool, if he leaves that's cool too.

We don't care what happens anymore...if it happens, it happens...if he dies, he dies

Melo is a max player imo. There aren't many in the league and Melo gets the least respect of 'em. I belee that PJ has a plan B, but don't kid yourselves, Melo is plan A. Plan A is plan A because it's the better plan, if not it would have been plan B.

I don't have a problem giving Carmelo the max deal. I'm just curious after all that, money isn't important talk. I want Carmelo on this team and to retire here.

I don't see Rondo going to LA. Him and Kobe aren't cool and that team is in worse shape than the Knicks.
