Shanahan: Skins have made offer to Brian Westbrook
******** Coach Mike Shanahan made his most emphatic public overtures to free agent running back Brian Westbrook Wednesday, saying Washington has made Westbrook an official offer to join a full stable of running backs that already includes veterans Clinton Portis, Larry Johnson and Willie Parker.
Asked after Wednesday's offseason workout session if he had heard from Westbrook or his agent, Shanahan told the assembled media, "No, but if you guys hear anything, just tell him that we're ready.
"We want him to sign with us," Shanahan said. "Like I said, it could be some great competition. I really like Brian, what he's done and how he's handled himself. I'm sure he's weighing some options. It's not too far away from home. Any more I can do?"

What's Sharper and Shancoe's beef anyways? Twitter been goin crazy with this the last few minutes.
A day after columnist Tom Powers of the St. Paul Pioneer Press urged the NFL to intervene in the ongoing Twitter war between Vikings tight end Visanthe Shiancoe and Saints safety Darren Sharper, Minnesota coach Brad Childress acknowledged that, at some point, action will be taken.
"There will be somewhere we'll reel it in," Childress said, per Tom Pelissero of 1500ESPN.com.
It started with Sharper acknowledging quarterback Brett Favre's recent ankle surgery by saying "X marks the spot." It continued with Shiancoe pointing out that Sharper's microfracture surgery puts a spot on his own knee.
And then Sharper tried to cajole Shiancoe into having the cahones to bet a game check on his performance in the season-opener between the Vikings and the Saints.
And then Shiancoe posted a photo of Osama bin Laden as Darren Sharper.

Twelve hours ago, the four teams reported to be most interested in free agent safety O.J. Atogwe were the Cowboys, 49ers, Vikings and Dolphins.
Now that list can be cut in half.
Shortly after Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he's happy with the safeties he has, NFL sources told Judd Zulgad of the Star Tribune that Minnesota won't be pursuing the veteran safety.
Atogwe went from restricted free agent to unrestricted free agent today because the Rams, as expected, declined to increase his one-year tender offer to 110 percent of his 2009 salary. That doesn't mean the Rams won't re-sign him, however, and with the Cowboys and Vikings out of the running, the Rams probably won't have a lot of competition for his services.

The St. Louis Rams remain the favorites to sign safety Oshiomogho Atogwe, even after their failure to reach a contract agreement with him Tuesday night allowed him to become a free agent, according to two sources familiar with the situation. One of the sources, who has spoken with Rams management in recent days, said negotiations between the sides have remained amicable even in the absence of an agreement. And even though the Miami Dolphins are making a strong push, the environment remains favorable for a deal that would return Atogwe to St. Louis.
The Rams want Atogwe back. They just didn't want to pay him the $6.976 million tender it would have taken to keep him off the open market. The two sides negotiated right up until the Tuesday night deadline and continued to speak Wednesday, and they may eventually come to a deal that pays Atogwe less than $6.976 million but more than the $1.226 million St. Louis offered. The risk, of course, is that now another team can come in and beat the offer, and the second source said Miami was motivated to do so.
What didn't happen Wednesday was the flood of offers for which Atogwe and his agent had been hoping to help them with their leverage. Teams such as the Cowboys, Lions, 49ers, Eagles and even the ever-active Jets had been thought of as potential suitors, but none of those teams appeared to be making a serious pursuit Wednesday. One of the sources said the Minnesota Vikings remained a possibility, but that it appeared to be a contest between the Rams and Dolphins, with the Rams in the lead.
http://twitter.com/grazdannyAtogwe is three weeks short of his 29th birthday and coming off an injury-plagued 2009 in which a shoulder problem cost him the final four games of the season. In the first 12 games, however, he was an effective and consistent defensive player. The Rams have precious few of those, which is why they remain interested in bringing him back. But they're also going to need plenty of money to sign No. 1 overall pick Sam Bradford, so they couldn't afford to spend $7 million on a 29-year-old safety coming off shoulder injury.
I'm Ok w/paying OJ as long as there's a protection in the contract against his injuries (similar to the Marshall contract) and there's incentives

Here's what you need to know about Revis: Yes, he wants new deal. Yes, he deserves it. BUT he's not going 2 let it get messy #nfl #nyj #jets
At this point, suggesting that Revis may miss minicamp and/or training camp is simply untrue. Neither he nor his camp has said that. #nfl
Tannenbaum on @Revis24 :"He’s a foundation 4organization. Within reason, we want 2 sign him to extension that will keep him here long term"

LAKE DELTON, Wis. (AP) -- Police in a south-central Wisconsin community say a Green Bay Packers player is under investigation for the alleged sexual assault of two women early Saturday.
Police in Lake Delton, outside of Madison, have not identified the player and say no one has been arrested.
Sgt. Gerald Grimsled says officers responded to a Lake Delton condo around 4:20 a.m. Saturday on a report that two women were sexually assaulted. He says seven players were questioned and all cooperated. He says they were all released but police are still investigating whether one of the players was involved in assaulting the women.
Grimsled says the six others are not suspected of criminal activity. They are Matthew Flynn, Khalil Jones, Joshua Sitton, Korey Hall, Bradley Jones and Clay Matthews.
A message left for Packers spokesman Aaron Popkey was not immediately returned Saturday.

The still-unnamed member of the Green Bay Packers who is under investigation for sexual assault reportedly has admitted having sexual contact with the alleged victims. (Yes, victims.) However, the player claims that the contact with the two women was consensual, according to Charles Davis of the Green Bay Press-Gazette.
The women claim there was no consent. The women also initially claimed that more than one player was involved. Police interviewed seven Packers; six of them are not suspected of criminal misconduct.
The unnamed player becomes the third NFL player accused of sexual assault in less than a year. Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has faced two such claims. A civil suit filed earlier this year alleges that Colts defensive tackle Eric Foster sexually assaulted a hotel worker on the morning of the AFC Championship in January.
Though the six-game suspension imposed on Roethlisberger likely will trigger speculation that the unnamed Packer will face similar treatment even without an arrest, keep in mind that the league looks to pounce preemptively only on repeat offenders.
"If somebody's showing a pattern of behavior and a series of misjudgments, we should find out what that is and try to deal with the problem," NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell told me during an interview that will appear in the upcoming PFT Season Preview magazine. "I'm not going to wait for somebody to get thrown into jail."
In this case, the unnamed Packer could get thrown in jail. But the league most likely won't intervene until the matter is resolved, unless the player in question has prior issues under the Personal Conduct Policy.
