I was at the game tonight... fun, once again. Atmosphere was great.

These bad losses are awful, but I can take some solace in the fact that they're at least competing neck-and-neck with these legitimate organizations like the Jazz and the Spurs consistently this season. That hasn't been seen here in about three to four years.

The Memphis Grizzlies selected Hasheem Thabeet with the No. 2 pick in the 2009 NBA draft. Even though he didn't show a lot last season and isn't playing that much this season, the team reportedly was unwilling to trade him. That is no long the case. According to The Commercial-Appeal, Grizzlies management is disappointed with their record this season and are now taking offers for the center.

Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace says any trade talk is being overblown by the media.

"We are continuously talking to teams throughout the year. And it's no different than the process of the other 29 teams," Wallace said. "Sometimes those conversations are very simplistic, and there's nothing to them. Sometimes they're serious. It's the normal course of what's out there.

"But we don't feel we have to do deals right now. That's how you end up making mistakes. You walk a fine line with being aggressive and seriously considering all of the options. We have quality players."

The Grizzlies goal is still to make the playoffs, so if a trade is made it will be for veteran help, instead of young players with no post-season experience.

UPDATE: According to The Dallas Morning News, Mavericks owner Marc Cuban was not happy after reading Berger's report.

"If [Ken Berger] is going to make things up, the reporter should at least be honest enough to say he is making things up," Cuban wrote in an email to the newspaper. "Not one grain of truth to anything he said."

The Mavericks are 23-5 and see no reason to mess with the chemistry on the team.

According to Ken Berger of CBS Sports, the Mavericks "are plotting an aggressive push" for Carmelo Anthony, though a concrete offer has yet to surface.

As we noted earlier Wednesday, the Mavs are also willing to rent Melo, meaning they'll trade for him even with no assurance he'll sign a contract extension and stay with them long-term.

The Mavs do have a host of expiring contracts, most notable those of Caron Butler -- who could replicate some of what Anthony does for the Nuggets -- DeShawn Sevenson and Tyson Chandler -- though Chandler's play as starting center this season may keep him off limits.

And if the Nuggets are looking for young talent, as has been reported, the team could offer up Rodrigue Beaubois -- although he is seen as an important future contributer and could be off limits as well.

Berger notes a third team may have to get in the mix if the Nuggets are looking to unload Chauncey Billups or Al Harrington, and we'll note a third team may also be crucial if Denver wants some extra draft picks as well.

While the Nets still reportedly have the so-called best offer on the table for Anthony, Mavs owner Mark Cuban appears to not be willing to go down without a fight.

The backup power forward ran on Friday for the first time since he suffered the injury on Dec. 3 and felt no pain.

Ryan Anderson was scheduled to have additional scans on his right foot, but that was delayed because he caught the stomach virus that has afflicted Dwight Howard, Jameer Nelson, Mickael Pietrus and J.J. Redick.

Anderson will get the foot looked at when he's feeling better.

There has been plenty of speculation that Avery Johnson was not offered the the head coach position for his hometown team, the New Orleans Hornets, because he's a "control freak" and wanted too much power. Johnson says those reports are not fair.

"Oh, very unfair. It's just blatant lies. But that's just the way it happens," Johnson told the New York Post. "One guy tells one lie and by the time it gets to the 10th person, boy, it's a really manufactured one.

"So that's a part of the deal. I think Bill Parcells and Bill Belichick -- even Sean Payton, my main man Sean Payton -- they've all been lied on. Gregg Popovich. But they've still been able to be successful. That's the nature of our business."

When asked, Johnson said he is very happy as the head coach of the Nets.

According to the New York Post, Knicks president Donnie Walsh said he has contacted Earl Barron's agent. Barron was released by the Suns on Tuesday and will clear waivers on Thursday.

Walsh will hold off on signing Barron because he's trying to make a trade, potentially for a point guard, and doesn't want to waive a player right now.

According to the newspaper, Cleveland point guard Ramon Sessions is once again on the Knicks radar.

Such a move was predicted by Coro in an earlier tweet, as seven of their 14 -- now 13 -- players were either listed as a center or power forward.

With the Magic looking for another center, it's possible they could look to sign Barron.

The Knicks -- who had Barron on the roster at the end of last season and liked what he brought to the table -- could also get in the mix for him as they look for more depth on the bench.

The ongoing saga of DeMarcus Cousins' immaturity continues. Cousins made a choking gesture at Warriors guard Reggie Williams after Williams missed a free throw during Tuesday's game. Head coach Paul Westphal was not happy and decided to fine the rookie and remove him from the starting lineup.

Kings basketball president Geoff Petrie backed the punishments levied by Westphal.

"I was really surprised that he didn't get a taunting (technical) foul for one thing," Petrie told The Sacramento Bee. "I just don't feel that kind of behavior is professional, number one, and it doesn't reflect well on him."

The incident happened with 19.3 second remaining in the fourth quarter.

"It was immature," Cousins admitted. "I was caught up in the game and let my emotions get the best of me and shouldn't have done it."

Cousins also said he's only being punished because the Kings lost on overtime to the Warriors.
"It definitely would have been different, but we didn't (win) and that's the punishment (Westphal) decided I needed, and I've got to deal with it," Cousins said.

Brandon Roy revealed on Wednesday that his left knee is not only causing him problems on the court, but off it, too. Roy says he may have come back too soon before and this time he plans on being more patient.

"I just want to really give this rest a chance to try to get me back to where I'm feeling confident that I can come back for the rest of the year and not just a few games," Roy told The Oregonian. "I think coach (Nate McMillan) and the guys understand. I don't think it would be smart to try to push it right now when I still have a little more time to gain some rest."

Roy says he the team has never considered shutting him down for the duration of the season.

"There's a lot of season left," Roy said. "So I don't want to just say cut out of the whole year. Because there are a lot of games to be played. I'm hopeful that I'll feel much better after this week and seeing some improvement will be encouraging to me."

Former NBA player Chris Webber had knee problems late in his career and thinks Roy should think about sitting out the rest of the season.

"I don't think Portland has the slightest of chances to win the championship," Webber told NBA.com. "I wish he would take the rest of the year off and get healthy. I think it would be a better investment for the Portland team because there are no guarantees. If you're not going to win this year, then what are you guaranteeing?

"You're guaranteeing that you're still damaging his hurt areas. That's all you're guaranteeing."

"I've watched teams that have post-up guys and I know what a post-up guy can do as far as this offense," Scott told The Plain Dealer. "When you get a good post-up guy, this offense runs even better. Then you have somebody who's a threat that's hard to double because of the movement and spacing."

Scott also mentioned the need for another dominant perimeter player.

"Most teams in this league that have a lot of success have either a big-time post up player or a big-time player," Scott said. "Either one. Either a dynamic post-up player or a perimeter player who's pretty damn good. One of those two."

Williams may from time-to-time come off the bench when head coach Larry Drew starts Jason Collins at center, Al Horford at power forward and Josh Smith at small forward.

"He was a real pro and I didn't expect anything different from him," Drew said.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports the six-year legal battle between the owners of the Atlanta Hawks and Atlanta Thrashers is finally over. As part of the deal, Steve Belkin's 30 percent stake in the Atlanta Spirit group will be bought out.

"I think if you talk to anyone in either organization, they will tell you that this lawsuit has had zero impact. Zero," Bruce Levenson said. "At the end of the day, we had a business partner who we were in a dispute with and we have settled that dispute. It may sound a lot more complicated but that's really what happened."

Levenson also said the Thrashers are staying in Atlanta and won't be relocated.

UPDATE No. 2: Carter has decided to rest his left knee instead if having surgery. Carter has a strained quadriceps tendon that is causing the swelling to the knee.

According to The Arizona Republic, Carter says doesn't know when he'll debut for the Suns, but he doesn't think it will be too long of a wait.

UPDATE: Vince Carter says he hurt the knee on Nov. 22 and recently swelling returned. He was planning to see the doctor on Tuesday.

"It still bothered me," Carter told The Arizona Republic. "I just tried to keep playing, being hard-headed and not listening to your body. There's been some swelling. The day of the trade is when I told them (Orlando) I wanted to get a MRI."

Carter probably won't play Thursday against Miami.

The Suns just acquired Vince Carter as part of a six-player trade with Orlando, but they may not be able to play him for a month.

According to The Arizona Republic, Carter is having issues with his left knee and may need to have arthroscopic surgery to fix the problem.

[h5]Marvin Williams | Hawks [/h5]


Small forward Marvin Williams came off the bench on Monday, but was back in the starting lineup on Wednesday. Williams says he didn't enjoy being a reserve.

"I'll be honest with you," Williams told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "I didn't like it, but I have to live with it."

Williams may from time-to-time come off the bench when head coach Larry Drew starts Jason Collins at center, Al Horford at power forward and Josh Smith at small forward.

"He was a real pro and I didn't expect anything different from him," Drew said.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports the six-year legal battle between the owners of the Atlanta Hawks and Atlanta Thrashers is finally over. As part of the deal, Steve Belkin's 30 percent stake in the Atlanta Spirit group will be bought out.

"I think if you talk to anyone in either organization, they will tell you that this lawsuit has had zero impact. Zero," Bruce Levenson said. "At the end of the day, we had a business partner who we were in a dispute with and we have settled that dispute. It may sound a lot more complicated but that's really what happened."

Levenson also said the Thrashers are staying in Atlanta and won't be relocated.

UPDATE No. 2: Carter has decided to rest his left knee instead if having surgery. Carter has a strained quadriceps tendon that is causing the swelling to the knee.

According to The Arizona Republic, Carter says doesn't know when he'll debut for the Suns, but he doesn't think it will be too long of a wait.

UPDATE: Vince Carter says he hurt the knee on Nov. 22 and recently swelling returned. He was planning to see the doctor on Tuesday.

"It still bothered me," Carter told The Arizona Republic. "I just tried to keep playing, being hard-headed and not listening to your body. There's been some swelling. The day of the trade is when I told them (Orlando) I wanted to get a MRI."

Carter probably won't play Thursday against Miami.

The Suns just acquired Vince Carter as part of a six-player trade with Orlando, but they may not be able to play him for a month.

According to The Arizona Republic, Carter is having issues with his left knee and may need to have arthroscopic surgery to fix the problem.

The surgery would sideline him for about four weeks.

Dirk, completely agree.  When Simmons isn't sucking off the Celtics, or bashing on the Lakers, that guy knows his stuff.

 At PO comin thru here with F the haters.  These buncha dudes were the little kids not allowed to sit at the dinner table with the grown folk the last few years, now they win some early season games and they think they belong at the head of the table all of a sudden.
