Official 2012 Boxing Thread: JMM/Manny IV - FOTY.

160 is deep in talent, but not big money makers. That is why I think a Chavez rematch is very likely.

Yeah Unce Bob is definitely going to want a rematch
Ward wants a big money fight too
why doesnt he come down to 160? Like he told Dawson to down on weight

Congrats for Sergio on his win.  Sergio, heart of a Champ and Jr, Chin of a brick wall.

Jr is a freaking OX,  but me thinks if Jr were to be throwing more punches, he would have tired out, that and taking all those punches from Sergio.  Then Sergio could have knocked him down...

And Jr just needed to throw more punches thru out the fight and maybe he could have won.

A rematch?  IDK... But for what I do know, I won't pay for a rematch...

Andre Ward didnt tell Dawson to come down.  Dawson said he would come down to fight ward after he beat Benard Hopkins in his post fight interview.

Worth catching a replay? Obviously heard Maravilla controlled the fight and both fighters traded shots in the final round. Couldn't find a sports bar in Hoboken to show it so I honestly just passed out before 10 PM EST.

I don't see what's wrong with a rematch. Martinez took JCC's belt, it was his belt to lose, it's only right that he gets a chance to get it back. Granted, he didn't do anything the first 11 rounds, but with a new game plan anything can happen. If he didn't get that KD in the 12th, a rematch would be questionable, but what happened in the 12th is what makes great rematches for business. If it makes dollars it makes sense.

Did you know JCC's godfather is the WBC's president Jose Suliaman? JCC never even deserved the belt/title. He's always been a lazy fighter & hasn't earned anything he's gotten. His re

He doesn't earn everything he's gotten? That's kind of an overstatement. At the end of the day he still need to go in the ring and perform, his godfather can't do that for him. Granted, his competition wasn't exactly the best, but you gotta give props where props is due to agree to fight Martinez instead of taking another lackluster fight.

Chavez has been a mediocre fight his whole career which is built on a bunch of cupcakes. Zbik was his first real opponent but that's not saying much. I think Martinez losing the belt was suspicious anyway. If I remember correctly, his team was trying to set up a fight with Zbik (someone can correct me if I'm wrong).

Chavez got his first real test against someone he thought was too old & got dominated. Roach said this kid was lazy, even saw glimpses of it on HBO 24/7. If Roach stays with him, he's doing it for the money.

Not saying Chavez doesn't have talent, but there's tons of dudes in prisons that have immense talent too. He could certainly prove me wrong if he choses to dedicate himself to being a good fighter...

BTW, if anyone has HBO & boxing fan, check out the doc of the Klitschko brothers. Whether you like them or not, it was an interesting doc.

im not a freddie roach fan but after i think was the 10th round he was talking to jr and told the translator to translate it and he just ignored him...SMFH..

Chick and her husband just met Sergio in the casino and posted up pics of her meeting

she said his hand isnt broken and he isnt wearing a cast in the pic

and he definitely isnt limping or wearing a brace

Was it me or did it seem like Sergio didn't really put a big left hand out there? I felt like he could have thrown some harder punches at points. I'm still catching up on the undercard fights and I'm gonna watch it again. First thoughts are I don't think I need to see a rematch. I could see your side Jay but 160 is DEEP as hell and Sergio has earned a big money fight IMO. There are a ton of fights out there ( for Sergio and I don't think Jr will fight any differently. From what I remember, he got hit with two straight lefts and stopped stalking for a few rounds.
BTW, Ward demolishes anyone at MW who decides to test 168.

Agree with this. Rematch should be likely but Martinez is salty about the payout of this fight & rightly so. Chavez got $3 mil for this fight & a portion of the PPV. Martinez got $1.7 mil. Martinez is going to want a bigger payday/larger share than Chavez.

Had to do my best to avoid this thread and espn. Just watched the fight. Pretty damn good even thought it wasn't close. Fun finish

thats not gonna happen..

I dont get why people don't want to see a rematch. I understand JCC only won one round, but Sergio barely made it out the fight on his feet. He could have easily lost that fight in the last round.

Andre Ward didnt tell Dawson to come down.  Dawson said he would come down to fight ward after he beat Benard Hopkins in his post fight interview.

I believe the story is that Dawson initially offered Ward a catchweight of 170 but Ward refused so Dawson said f it and went down to 168.

Floyd don't wanna step in the ring with Canelo, we all know he is the best at picking & chosing his fights so he doesn't have a blemish on that record of his.

I haven't watched the Canelo fight yet so excited to catch that online somewhere in the next couple of days. But props to Martinez. So glad he won. And I think a rematch will happen...but if anyone might want to think about it...its JCC

I thought Sergio just got reckless in round 12. I don't think JCC did anything to "turn the fight". He fought the same all 12 rounds and Sergio stopped up against the ropes one time and got caught. JCC is huge did HBO release his fight night weight yet?

I don't think anyone really wants it with Canelo right now. Not saying they can't beat him. I think Ward and Martinez would beat him. I don't know about Cotto.

But apparently the Maidana fight was the best fight this weekend and i didn't see that either. Great weekend of boxing though from what i hear...even though i only saw one major bout

Maaaaaaan I've supported Maidana forever and the one fight I talked him down, he KO's Soto-Karass. I thought it was a quick stoppage though.

People really big on Canelo? Haven't seen his recent fights but his earlier fights showed that he lacked stamina to me which should be with a young fighter unless their not training hard...
