My problem was that I thought the power didn't carry over to 147. But Devon was just a horrible match and he never landed anything significant. He got matched well with Soto-Karass and showed he still had the pop and some slightly improved boxing mechanics. That jab had some major pop too.

Like you said, Devon made it an extremely ugly and boring fight.

And he held, ALOT!

I believe Maidana should give it one more shot at 147.

Just not against an ugly style of fighter like Devon.

Appreciate this slow, rainy night in NJ. Allows me to re-watch a Maravilla fight or two. Got the Pun and Ghost Pav bouts cued up.

If he is after Arum paid off the judges in the Bradley fight then the jokes on him.
He should of bossed up long ago, pulled a Money May/De La Hoya and promoted himself.
It's laughable how much Bob came up off him.

Pondering this while relaxing at home, who if anybody at SMW is beating S.O.G. right now?
Nobody, and you have to think his camp was proably rooting for JCC jr to win this weekend because you could make a big money fight at 168 with him. i cant really think of one big money fight for him right now. he proably will be like roy jones and cant become a PPV fighters till late in his career

and i think i read JCC jr and pacman contract are done at the end of the year

Been saying I want to see Ward fight Dirrell next, but most on here don't seem to believe either would take the fight. Also another point against that match-up is Dirrell may not be a big enough PPV draw outside of Michigan and the Midwest area. He's not exactly a household name despite being a solid fighter.

He can still make good money fighting Kessler, Bute, and Froch in their countries. And if he moves to 175, Pascal can get him a nice paycheck. Andre Dirrell has the best chance to beat Ward, but its a high risk low reward fight. He has everything to lose and not much to gain especially money wise.

But S.O.G. has already beaten two of the three fighters you mentioned rather soundly, without controversy. Kessler and Froch. Would boxing fans really pay for a rematch in either case? I wouldn't.

While theres not much new to expect, the fans of those guys are willing to shell out serious Cash to see it. Thats why It has to take place in their backyard. I've heard Kessler fight PPV's go for $100 in Denmark. :x

This guy put in work! Yea wouldn't blame him for not taking a rematch. For what? Serge outclass this lazy bum!

Is this him after the fight? That hand does look pretty hurt. Its funny because some one in this thread said it was weird he stopped throwing the left in the later rounds. So is it actually broken? Any word on the knee swelling too?

I know hitting JCC that much could hurt your hand. He is huge and strong....and you hit him a lot...but on 24-7 they said he didn't spare that much ever in training camp. Maybe more sparing would have his hands ready to hit a target that isn't a bag or a mit? Just a thought. I don't care who Sergio fights next just as long as the man gets paid, he deserves it

what kind of sense does it make for him to go overseas and fight them tho? i dont see how Dirrell who has not been fighting much beats ward.

crooks i think that fight does still make money but bob is hell bent on making a rematch

$$. It depends if he wants to risk getting a BS decision but for sure get a
nice purse. Plus people have been criticizing Ward fighting almost exclusively in his hometown for years. So it will remove that bit of doubt and make him more marketable. Dirrell has the best chance to beat him because of his style. I still think Ward beats Andre Dirrell, but he's the best opponent left in the division.

Actually Froch vs Chavez Jr might be a more action packed fit because Froch will bully and slug with Chavez Jr possibly even stopping him.

Meh, Ward needs to establish his brand in the US and if fighting in the Oakland area does that, so be it. Nothing wrong with buidling a strong regional fanbase while still having your bouts nationally televised. Would you rather he fight in casinos where 75% of the tickets are comped are the crowds much more sparse?

But he's been doing that forever, it's time to get his passport. Especially when he went through the entire Super Six tournament and the boxers traveled all all over the world . He didn't even leave US soil.

Travel overseas to fight guys he's already beat?

Look at fighters like Bute & Pascal for example. They fight almost exclusively in Quebec because they have done a great job in building that fanbase that they will always come out and support these fighters, so much so that both Hopkins and Dawson went north to fight them. They have enjoyed enormous success by following this strategy and have built consistent revnue streams because of it.

With that being said, look at the same tow fighters. Took a risk, went overseas to fight Froch, and they lost. Certainly took some of the bloom of the rose, so was that worth it just get their passports stamped?

The Canadian fans don't care who it is, they would fill up a stadium as long as it's one of their own. It's not so much due to Bute and Pascal building a reputation, but rather due to the way Canadians are supportive. It's not the same for Americans, not even for Floyd Mayweather.

But just because Bute and Dirrell lost to Froch in the UK that doesn't mean that Ward will have the same fate, but you're right the risk is still there. Ward doesn't have to fly overseas, fighting in Las Vegas will be a step up for him. But at some point in time he probably needs to at least go to Canada given that most of his opponents generate more money than him in their backyards despite him being the higher ranked fighter. Look at Joe Calzaghe, if he came to the US earlier that would've been great for his wallet and his legacy. But during his day, most of the better fighters in his division were in the US.

agree with crooks why ward doesnt need to travel

i watch the canelo VS lopez fight last night. my god canelo has some power, reminds me of cotto from back in the day from the body work and power. his defense sucks tho lopez was hitting him with some good shots but had no power in them

lopez showed so much heart think he can be good at 140-147
