You should have held on to Solich, there is not doubt about that. He got fired because he was not Tom Osborne, but 99.9% of guys are not that good.

And TBH in today's climate Os never makes it to the 90's when he really got it rolling.

Solich went 7-7 his last season. That will get you canned at the majority of power 5 schools

He actually went 9-3 his last season. Should have fired him the year before that. Proves my point that we always hold on to coaches a year too long

He was a good coach, but they got him when he was clearly on the downside of his career. The other reason why because he's a nice guy who reminded some of Osborne mannerism wise, and Eichorst the AD was tired of dealing with a prick like Bo who was just good enough not to get fired, but got embarrassed every time they played a big game.
Love Riley. Wish he could go back to Corvallis and get his job back.

The attrition that’s about to take place in Austin is... Staggering.

They’re going to struggle next year something fierce.

Clay Helton finally spoke on Jamel Cook's lack of playing time this year. Said it was academics and that they're working with him to get him right for the bowl game. There's been a lot implied about him being in Clancy's dog house (he dipped backed to Florida in September because he was worried about hurricane Irma and did so without telling the coaches. Apparently missed film sessions and practice.) This is the first time Clay has implied his absence from games was due to grades, which may shut some people up who have been critical about coaches sitting him.

He was killing in Spring and Summer practices/workouts then vanished in the Fall.

Is it anyone that can actually play though?

I know Connor Williams just decided to turn pro after struggling and being banged up most of the year. Probably should have came back but the league is desperate for quality OT's so maybe his SO tape will be good enough to get him drafted early.

FSU resources are that bad?

I don’t think so, but we’re talking about UF here if that’s what you’re referencing as a comparison. Not many universities can match what they have resource wise.

Seems like there’s some friction between who holds/controls the money the boosters raise and Jimbo having to beg to get things, whereas say a Clemson, Alabama etc, things just happen. Seems like this go around has to do with that, more so than a pay raise. Hopefully I’m not interpreting that wrong, but that’s how I read it.

I guess he's counting on Malik Jefferson, Hill, Elliot, and Chris Warren to go too?
They gone.

Warren already announced transfer. Toneil Carter may leave too. Duvernay is looking at a transfer. Buechele, too, but that only matters if Ehlinger gets hurt.

Hill, Boyd, Elliott may go draft. Malik definitely out before his clock gets rung one too many times. Omenihu may declare.

They weren’t deep to begin with.

Transfers bc or playing time, style, or because of Herman?

EDIT

Just read the attrition board from the Texas 247 guys. Yikes. Does seem like a lot of names.

probably a lil of both but i’ve seen a few of those lists too and most of those guys rumored to leave don’t play a ton anyway. other than the guys who are projected pros the ones leaving aren’t real losses anyway.

Nebraska has better resources than Wisconsin, and it's academic restrictions are a lot more lenient. Wiscy admin is dumb and thinks having some of the highest academic reqs for athletes in the conference is somehow going to improve their academic reputation, when in reality no one gives a **** about that in academia.

At UNL you can take advantage of the top JC programs in the Midwest to supplement the talent disadvantage that comes from having such a small natural footprint. Wiscy can't do that, and Iowa refuses to (because Kirk is an idiot).

Not 100% why you are saying Wisconsin admin are dumb. Their football program is consistently good, their basketball program has been in multiple final fours in the last 15 years, and their hockey teams have won multiple championships... it's pretty rare to have consistently excellent sports programs, while having high academic standards, but Wisconsin has a good balance.

Because it's a dumb unnecessary hindrance that hurts your program. Wisconsin is never going to be Michigan, the same way Michigan is never going to be Stanford or an Ivy League School. Lowering academic standards does nothing to hurt your academic reputation. Michigan letting in a guy like Brad Hawkins who had to go the prep route to qualify doesn't sully anyone's degree.

When guys like Chris Borland, and Melvin Gordon are borderline types to qualify, your standards are too high. Neither of those guys are dumb.

McElwain complained about UF's resources too though. Coaches are always asking for more.

Because fan bases and administrations expect championships on every level. They see Bama and Clemson and want that but then they’re frugal when it comes to shelling out the cash to get there. If Bama has 20+ support staff members and you’re competing against them with not even half of that it’s clearly an imbalanced arms race.

USC right. Now has the 8th largest support staff in the Pac12 because the school won’t spend for assistants but still expects undefeated seasons. How many years was @bigmike23 in here complaining that UCLA didn’t even have a full size practice field? Yet their admins and fans had the nerve to wonder why they weren’t in the BCS every year.

As a Michigan fan, the only guy I am taking seriously about how this team is playing is Marcus Ray... Michigan needs a perfect storm to overachieve and cannot utilize the "next man up" right now... It is a huge problem.
