Well I mean Wherever Kawhi goes, given his health history, are we even sure he’d want a short deal? I know for tenured max purposes, but it’s always risky play with that.
You could also argue that the clippers have
Better ownership. Literally the biggest competitive advantage in sports
Better front office
And if he wants to come to la and not be the third banana, the clippers provide that
They also have a clean cap sheet next summer should they decide to pair Kawhi with another star next summer
There’s only “little reason” to pick the clippers over the lakers if you’re looking at it through a Laker centric lense

Again neither one of us have any idea what Kawhi's motivation is...
for everything you just said i can argue a fe other points
1) the Lakers are the biggest team in L.A (one of the top in all of sports), for brand purposes and visibility being a Laker is a bit more beneficial than being a Clipper
2) The Lakers if he comes are easily the favorite to win a championship this year & even with Lebron declining he will have a top 5 guy in his prime to build with over the next 5 years in AD
3) with KD having the Achilles Injury, there isn't a player in next years FA that is close to AD's caliber.
So while the clippers ownership/front office may be perceived to have a better front office (Keep in mind if he's leaving Toronto in the first place, how much of a draw is having a great front office), as far as actual basketball goes the Lakers have that advantage & as far as marketability goes the Lakers also have the advantage.
Personally i'm not putting my eggs in the Kawhi basket, is it a possibility for both L.A teams sure... however i do think the Lakers have an edge over the clippers considering what has happened in the past two weeks.

Really hope the Lakers don't use that last max slot on a Kemba or Jimmy. If its not Kawhi, just fill out your roster with good depth. Its the smartest thing you can do especially since you're not really building your team to beat the Warriors.

If Kawhi goes to the Clippers and they retain most of whatever free agents they have, they honestly should be the favorites to win the chip but won't be for obvious reasons. They took a fully loaded GS team 6 games w/o him. Just being realistic.

If zo and bi won 48 games and took two in the bay in the playoffs lord knows we’d be hearing about it. Jerry West, Ballmer, Doc Rivers? That’s appealing

They then won 48 games starting rookies and not paying anyone except Gallo
Truth be told, even if Kawhi doesn’t come the Clips are straight. Clean cap moving forward, stable management in place, and loads of money from an owner who pays the right people and gets out of the way

You're right. Didn't necessarily mean max money, but I just hope they don't use all of their caproom on one player and fill out the roster with poor depth.

It was hard for him getting good FAs before, but that was mainly because no one wanted to play in Cleveland. After everything that happened in LA, I wonder if players want to play with Lebron at all.
They're much better off just spreading that money on the lower tier guys (Green, Ellington, Darren Collison, Morris twins, Lopez etc).
The only top free agent that I see maybe going there is Jimmy.

Likely not. 27-30 mil if AD waives his trade kicker is the best scenario and they dump MAGA Mo and Bonga. 30 mill could net 3 good players and fill out the rest with minimum contracts. And they'll also have the 4.8 mil room exception.
Now if they get a commitment from somebody before July 6th, AD would likely be willing to do that and they'd assuredly move Mo and Bonga. I don't think 2.5 mil less would deter a max guy when you're maximizing your chances at a ring.
