Official 2019 NYK offseason thread. Brooklyn knick fans check in

Fair, but isn't that the case with most young athletic players?

The college game is built around zipping around the court with less structure.

Glad we're having this conversation instead of 'will Pookie/Jared Jeffries start at the 3 again?'

What separates the young athletic players who turned into all stars? They were all either great scorers (Rose, Francis) great passers (Baron Davis, maybe Ja Morant) or just great at everything (Westbrook).

Can DSJ be in any of those categories as another point guard with superior athleticism? Hopefully, but I don’t see it.

His game just isn't a good fit with RJ Barrett. Barrett is going to play the same role that Doncic had in Dallas as the primary ball handler. In Dallas they played better when Jalen Brunson replace DSJ alongside Doncic since he could spot up from 3 and defend better, I don't see any reason why it won't eventually come to that here.

The team needs to be built around Barrett and his strengths = maximum shooters around him

All the money in FA needs to go to guys that can shoot the ball, otherwise they're just sandbagging the team and Barrett's development from the start

If we had something like the 6th, 7th pick and were looking at Reddish or Culver than I understand keeping DSJ around and rolling the dice, but with the 3rd pick I really don't get it

most of these guys aren't even good shooters..?

Lopez at least had a good FT% suggesting he could expand his game

Can’t tell if you just don’t watch basketball or what, bc Lopez was shooting and making a lot of 3s in the playoffs. He wasn’t doing that a year or 2 ago. The rest are players that developed a reliable jumper, not turned into Steph Curry.

I'm a big fan of DSJr. Not sure what people didn't like about his play with us last season. I think he has the tools to be a starter for a contending team down the line.

Anyone wanna share what it was that turned people off to DSJr's play? Really felt like he was the most athletic dude out there whenever he was on the floor, and played with heart.

Dudes talked themselves outta Dennis to try to convince themselves that Frank was better

“He’s focused on shooting and conditioning, 1000 percent,” Smith Jr.’s longtime trainer, Shawn Farmer, said in a phone interview Friday with Ian Begley of SNY.

“Besides repetition with his shooting, he’s going to do some mechanical tweaks. He’s realized that there are some things in his mechanics that have to change,” Farmer said of Smith Jr., who shot 42 percent overall and 32 percent from behind the arc last season. “From what I’m hearing, he’s going to work with a couple of the Knicks assistant coaches. And he’s going to do some stuff on his own, which is to be determined. But his main focus is mechanics.”

I think the issue is you have a lot of flawed guys who already don't compliment each other as is. Now of course they are young, they need time to grow but you want guys to grow together and already have a skill that you know is going to gel well with others. The young Nets squad has guys who can handle, create for others, shoot or get to the rim when needed and compliment each other. Trae Young and John Collins already compliment each other in P&R situations and so on.

We have guys with potential but already they are showing to not completely compliment each other and I think you want to find pieces that compliment each other and can grow together sooner rather than later. Too many what ifs and not enough "we know he can do this and this already, this will go great with such and such".

They only get excited when Frank is practicing dribbling, shooting a corner 3, freezing himself, doing tricks on a balance ball and “saying the right things”. Frank got that privilege somehow.

Since it looks like we're not getting anybody this summer, would you guys bring back DJ to mentor Mitch?

Sign Durant, trade for Marvin Williams & Bismack Biyombo with picks attached, suck for one more season, draft Cole Anthony, sign Anthony Davis.

We byke. Gimme a front office role.

I don’t even know if I’d want to compete with the Nets for Kyrie, if he legit is leaning towards the NETS let him go. No need for him to be on the Knicks If we weren’t even his top choice in NY! Don’t want him having any regrets by signing with us. I’m all for cats coming here because they legit want to play for the Knicks and if you’re really leaning towards the NETS then....

I don’t hate the Nets as much as some of y’all do. They’ve provided a more entertaining product more often than the Knicks have in the last 15+ years

Hey man, salute to KD. He already knows, Nets a joke. **** that team. I’ll welcome him, I’ll pick him up at the airport and push him around in the wheelchair for the next 12 months.

Kyrie wanna play for the B franchise here? Go then.
