Yeah it's weird.

"Hating" teams and/or players is a part of being a sports fan but it's gotten to a real bizarre personal level. Just look at how the NBA threads goes off the rails if Steve or Lebby lose or have a bad game.

A part of that is the hot take era that has become popularized by the First Takes and Undisputeds of the world. That coupled with social media where it's easier to be anonymous which makes people more embolden has created a toxic and nastee environment.

As much as I dislike Steph there is no scenario in which I would spit or throw popcorn on that man over a basketball game. People out here using fandom to hide the fact they're bigots and all around deplorable individuals.

Chants are one thing but spitting or throwing food at a player is wild disrespectful. How entitled can you be?

On a similar note, shoutout Trae Young for handling the chants at him like he should. Smiling at the fans & playing back at them. Fun to see.

Can someone explain to be why fans hate Russ? Is it because he plays with passion and they don't like other players showing emotion? I don't get it. Same thing is happening with Trae to certain degree.

Disgraceful behavior.

Fans see that Russ will react to fans so it's a copy cat thing.

A lot of these fan nowadays have sat behind their computers saying all types of crazy **** about these athletes and they carry that fake courage to real life. We see people all the time now do dumb **** just to get social media attention. People spend hours and hours trollin on social media and some of 'em think they can troll in real life.

Interesting headlines by ESPN today:

- Philly Game: No mention of the win. Fan throws popcorn, this can be malice in the palace pt 2, players should be protected, fans have too much freedom.

- NYK game: Fan spits at Trae - New York is a great city with a great basketball culture. Mecca of Basketball, go Knicks!

They're calling it a "spill" though.

Looks like CP3 giving it a go tonight; listed as probable for the game. We’ll see what he’s got.

One of the drawbacks of having him as one of a team’s star players - has a hard time staying healthy in the playoffs :frown:

Fr tho, they want the Knicks to be great so bad. It’s pathetic.

Everyone is expecting the Sixers to win the series anyway, so them winning the game isn’t as big a story as the popcorn.

And the spitting incident was reported later and Trae hasn’t talked about it publicly yet, right?

Disgusting. And the NBA solution to this is banning them, but that is not enough. They should be charged with criminal assault.

Agreed. and fining them $5k should also send a clear message. These front row seat guys can afford it.

I don't think he did, but at the same time, I don't think any reporter even asked as opposed to Russ.
