just got back from vegas this past weekend. pretty much only played craps (as is usually the case for me).
so i had read up on another "system" but was too chicken to try it (not to mention i didnt have the bankroll for it), and also a little skeptical about the success rate on it.
so the system i read about is based on winning a cold table (as is more typical than hot tables).
start by betting 1unit on both pass and dont pass. so basically on the come out roll, the only time you will lose money is if they roll boxcars (12) since the dont pass bet pushes, and the pass bet loses (2/3 pushes as does 7/11). Once a point has been set, the pass line bet and dont pass line bet basically cancel each other out (since one will only win when the other loses and vice versa). The point of this strategy is to take advantage of the best bet in the casino, which is the odds bet.
Depending on your perceived risk tolerance, you can then bet accordingly when a tougher point is set. Some might make an odds bet only if the point is an outside number 4,5,9,10. On 6/8 they will just ride it out and eventually break even (once point is hit, or 7 out). If the point is an outside number though, you scale up and maximize your odds bet and hope that the 7 comes before the 4 (or whatever the point is).
Now this can be a slow burn of sorts as you win little bit little on a very hit or miss table. The problem is if the table gets hot and the shooter hits a couple of outside points in succession, then you are really taking a hit to your bankroll since you are laying odds (and big odds at that).
I'll usually play a $15 min table and figured I would need atleast $800 minimum if not a grand just to ride out the small swings of a decently hot shooter. Again, I just play for pennies (usually only look to "lose" about $1,500 a trip) so I just couldnt justify rolling out 2/3 of my bankroll in 1 session to test this theory out.
My strategy (I wont call it a system, cause it doesnt work)
I HATE to play with the house. 99% of the time I am a passline bettor.
I will play the passline. If a point is set, I NEVER make an odds bet on the next roll. I will instead bet an equal amount to my passline bet on the come bet. The reason I do this is cause I am superstitious and I feel that P&C's (point and immediate crap out) happen waaaaay too often, atleast more often than a point is set then immediately hit. If they roll a 2/3/12, I will chalk up my come bet as a loss, and re-place that bet for the next roll. If they miss their point but hit another number, I then my my original passline bet, and a come bet. Typically, these are the only 2 numbers I will ride. I will look to maximize my odds bet on both of these numbers and just ride it out. If I get bored (which tends to happen) I might make a place bet, usually on the 5 or 9 (assuming neither are my point or come numbers). I try not to mess with 6/8 much though.
I try to stay away from the middle of the table (hardways, hop, etc.. etc...), UNLESS the table is poppin (or im drunk and just tryin to shoot the S with the dealer and give em a little piece of action). This past weekend was one of those instances where the table was poppin, and it got crazy. Dudes who were playing with maybe $300-1000 bank rolls were tossing $25 chips on Yo bets on nearly every roll. Shooter was hot like fire and would hit a Yo every 3-4 rolls (utter madness), and dudes were goin crazy. I was too chicken myself and would only throw like $2-5 on the Yo, but still made some lunch money with it.
