OFFICIAL HOCKEY THREAD: NHL, KHL, NCAA, IIHL

Not sure what the isles are doing with that trade....but im glad vanek is out of the division. Dude is a bruins killer

Moulson is the worst hockey player they have. Greatttttt trade for the isles

Moulson does one thing and one thing only score goals. Vanek can actually forecheck. Play in his own zone. Create andddd score goals. Neither of them skate particularly well

Every time I watch the isles I'm embarrassed for Moulson. I'm sure the coach/management despised this dude

Tavares between vanek and okposo is a good lookin first unit

:lol c'mon now

there are plenty of one way players that are still assets to a team. especially ones that play well with your biggest star.

if vanek fits right in though, it doesn't look as bad. and if they can't resign the guy, that's an expensive rental for a team that isn't expected to play much a role in may/june.

It's a matter of cohesion.

Moulson/Tavares were a sick combo. I'm sure he'll do well w/ Vanek, but you just never know....

That was a great trade or Buffalo....recoup a 1st and 2nd for a player who was gonna walk anyways? Good work by their GM. Wtf are the Isles doing? Their defense needs help vanek is better than moulson but not by a ton and he is probably gonna walk at the end of the year. Terrible trade for them...not like they're gonna be anything more than an 8 seed.

Those Calgary jerseys would've been mic better without the C under the script that completely kills it. Way too busy.

So what if they barely make the playoffs? As has been proven time and time again, all you need to do is get in to have a chance. It's a great move as far as I'm concerned for the Islanders. Consider that a rental Paul Gaustad got a 1st at the deadline 2 years ago, and the value here doesn't look so bad. They already have tons of prospect depth. Losing a couple of picks won't kill them. And with two players as skilled as JT and Vanek I've got no worries they'll both put up big numbers, even if it's not on the same line. The ONLY way I see this ending up bad is if Wang won't pony up the dough to re-sign Vanek.

I agree. Im big on rentals tho... like you ssid all you have to do is kake the playoffs to win as shown time n time again... they have all the young talent they need the picks were whatever. I wouldnt be suprised if they bring in a grit forward or d before the deadline as well...

I understand those who are opposed to breaking up that chemistry but tavares will make whoever plays with him better. Even if vanek ays with nielson and tavares with like bailey n okposo theyll be better off n the long run imo

Eh true you need to only get in but that team has problems on D, Vanek isn't solving that...and odds are slim if you get in as a low seed that you'll make any noise, LA kings are more I an anomaly than the norm and they also have an elite goalie. I just don't see how this improves them all that much. Like I said vanek > moulson but the difference isn't going to help them between the pipes or on D. I barely see the isles as a playoff team as it stands but time will tell. Still like it for Buffalo more as they're stockpiling assets to rebuild.

Hahaha moulson capitalizing on second shift. Good coaching putting him with ennis n hodgson... he may actually score more goals this season.

Vanek better bring it for the isles hhah.

Hopefully the deadline brings many more fun trades

Ryan Miller has got to be next for Buffalo, no?

He's definitely gone at some point this year. Wouldn't be shocked to see Miller end up in Anaheim for Hiller and a 1st. Both UFA's and Miller has been rumored to want to play in the West.

Also why won't the BJs just wear that jersey regularly?

Colorado Avalanche goalie Semyon Varlamov was arrested Wednesday evening and charged with second-degree kidnapping and third-degree assault.

The Denver Police Department has characterized the Varlamov’s situation as a domestic violence incident, and the hockey player is scheduled to appear before a judge on Thursday. The 25-year-old Varlamov turned himself in to authorities around 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

Police would not specify much about the incident, though they did say that it involved someone with whom Varlamov has an intimate relationship.

According to the Denver Post, the assault charge is a misdemeanor, but the kidnapping charge “is a Class 4 felony, punishable by two to six years in prison.”

At this point, it’s still unclear if Varlamov has an attorney. The athlete’s agent said that the goalie is “completely innocent” of the charges.

According to the Twitter feed of Denver Post reporter Ryan Parker, the police report on the incident said, “Varlamov’s girlfriend said he pushed her down, stomped on her and dragged her by the hair.”

Parker also tweeted the police report’s claim that “Varlamov allegedly told his girlfriend, in Russian, ‘if this were Russia, he would have beat her more.’”

The alleged crimes were reportedly committed sometime Tuesday, though more details have yet to surface.

Varlamov’s team issued the following statement on the situation:

"The Colorado Avalanche organization is aware of the allegations concerning Semyon Varlamov. At this time, and until the conclusion of this investigation, the Avalanche organization will have no further comment on this situation."

Varlamov has staged an impressive comeback in Colorado after being acquired from the Washington Capitals in 2011. Under new head coach Patrick Roy and goaltending instructor Francois Allaire, Varlamov has posted a 7-1 record so far this season, and is among the NHL’s league leaders in wins, save percentage, and goals-against.

I will say this about Varly. He's got a sick X6 M. Other than that....he's screwed. What's he thinking? :{

You shoulda thrown something underneath his car from the front through the back so you could have said you went 5-hole on an NHL goalie.
