that hotel story was crazy

i hope the Lakers get a lot sleep...why would the organization book them at a haunted hotel though...regardless if it is haunted or not just having those thoughts can trip you out.......just saying

George Lynch always had that mean mug, but dude could shoot lights out when he was on.

Then it came out of nowhere when he was traded with Peeler to make cap room for Shaq.

They never looked in good in a Grizzlies uniform

Aye dios mio.

I don't think anyone is saying Bynum sucks. Kwame sucks; Bynum is just a center.

Not a great center. Not an elite center. Not an All-Star-snubbed center.

Just a center.

I'll continue to think of him as 'just a center' until he gives me reason to believe other wise. And one game won't give me that reason. Hell, one series won't give me that reason. One entire playoffs won't either. Tim Thomas had a good playoff run in '04 or '05 or whenever the hell it was. That makes him great? No. He was just a forward before that, and was even less than 'just a forward' after that.

Bynum is not the future of the franchise. I don't know who is, but he's not. He's... just a center.

Aye dios mio.
Nobody said he was elite, great, amazing, all-star caliber.

All I said was we needed him to win. Is that not the truth??? He's not a starter for nothing. Phil doesn't just start him over Odom for no reason. He is a big part of our team.

We don't need him to be the franchise at this point we need him to be a solid center.

really?

he was in foul trouble and non existant in the finals...if i can remember clearly in that MLK day game this year howard was banking shots all day on drew

With all this bickering back and forth, if you guys had the option to bench Bynum, I guess you guys would take your chances, since you hate him so much.

This is the team we have as of 04/22/10, 5:11 EST, and that's the way it will be until they either get knocked out or win a title.

He used to blast Nick with this on the regular: "Ven Exel down the lane... and comes right back out. Where you going, Nick?"

--Van Exel. That dude. Looking back on those medicore years, it wasnt that painful. Vlade. Van Exel. Jones. Elden Campbell. Sedale Threatt. George Lynch. JAMES EDWARDS with his turn around fadeaway from 15 ft out...an aging James Worthy...

Funny thing is that Jerry West said those were the days he had the most fun as the Lakers GM. I also remember journeymen players that played for the Lakers those years (Doug Christie, Anthony "PIG" Miller, Sam Bowie, Derek Strong)

[h2]Nothing reserved about Lakers' Powell[/h2][h3]L.A. reserve forward is a team leader and -- get this -- friends with Kobe Bryant[/h3]

Lisa Blumenfeld/Getty ImagesJosh Powell, usually seen deep on the Lakers' bench, and Kobe Bryant embrace before each game.

Long before Kobe Bryant has the ball in his hands in an end-game situation with the chance to make the winning shot -- he has seven of them this season -- there's a checklist of pregame rituals he needs to complete before the game even begins.

Bryant needs a foot massage as he lies down in a muddled state of intense semi consciousness as the game approaches. He needs to lace up a fresh pair of his signature sneakers. He needs to puff rosin in the direction of the familiar faces of the broadcast team and statistics crew sitting courtside. He needs to dig his toes into the court, the rubber soles of his kicks catching the hardwood so he can stretch his legs out through a spastic circling of his knees that looks kind of like a young Forrest Gump imitating Elvis dancing to "Hound Dog."

And he needs to hug a guy.

The guy is Josh Powell.

When the two meet up before Bryant takes the court, the Lakers reserve forward doesn't just embrace Bryant, he gets in his ear, imparting a final thought for Bryant to consider before tip-off, as if Powell was basketball's Dr. Phil.

"I tell him," Powell explained, "I say, 'We're going to go out to eat at McDonald's after the game and he's like, 'Yeah!' He gets fired up."

Really, Josh?

I just try to motivate. I know people wonder, 'How can you motivate guys like Kobe or Pau?' But you know, we're all human.

Jackson doesn't grasp Stern warnings

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Round 1 went to David Stern on Thursday night when the NBA commissioner went Dirty Harry style and dared coaches and players to "make my day" by publicly criticizing game officials. He said they risked not just a fine but a suspension.

On Friday, Los Angeles Lakers coach Phil Jackson fought back.

"I think when you start throwing one- and two-game suspensions in the threats, I think that means a lot to both ball clubs and coaches," Jackson said at Lakers practice. "It seems awful heavy-handed to me, but David is one who isn't shy about being heavy-handed."

Jackson framed his comments about the Oklahoma City Thunder's Kevin Durant's free throw shooting made prior to the series as trying to gain a competitive edge. Stern described the comments as "corrosive."

"There's a certain gamesmanship that goes on that obviously he feels cheapens the game," Jackson continued. "It never was explained to us until it suddenly came down in this last week that arbitrarily they were going to do this. I missed the coaches meeting last September. Maybe they explained it in the coaches meeting last year because they said there was a couple instances last year when I think it was [Stan] Van Gundy and [Rick] Adelman were fined during the playoffs for statements that led to manipulating the press, I guess is the best way I can say it.

"I don't know how you guys could be so naive, being members of the fifth estate, third estate, second estate or whatever state you're members of."

The Lakers coach received two separate $35,000 fines from the league in the month of April. Jackson was fined for the Durant comments, insinuating the 21-year-old scoring champion led the league in free-throw attempts in part because, "I think a lot of the referees are treating him like a superstar; he gets to the line easy and often."

Jackson was fined earlier in the month for saying the "referees turned against us" after a game against San Antonio and for calling out veteran official Bennett Salvatore by name and saying, "With Bennett, you don't know what you're going to get."

Jackson said he thought the severity of Stern's statement was unwarranted.

"[If] there's a situation of favoritism on the NBA court, I don't think anybody is going to be deluded into thinking that [certain] people don't get calls on the court, regardless of how you say it," Jackson said. "It's just a natural evolution of the game and it's a natural evolution of who gets the ball the most. They're going to end up a lot of times at the foul line. Unfortunately it didn't work for Kobe [Bryant] that way last night, but it did for Kevin [Durant]. But that's the way things go in this game. You have to accept it, swallow it and move on."

Bryant attempted zero free throws in Game 3 while Durant was 12-for-13 from the charity stripe. After the game, Bryant avoided a question about his lack of free-throw attempts Thursday night by saying, "I'm not quite sure how to answer that. ... Um, yeah. Both teams played hard."

Stern singled out Jackson and Miami Heat president Pat Riley as two coaches he would serve with harsher penalties than fines if he had the chance to go back 20 years and respond to their criticism of the referees again.

"In that instance, Pat started out by saying [Michael] Jordan got all the calls and got to the foul line all the time, that blatantly," Jackson said, describing a public battle of barbs between the two when Riley was coaching the New York Knicks and Jackson was coaching the Chicago Bulls in the early 1990s. "And I said, 'You should talk, Patrick Ewing travels every time he goes to the basket,' so we went tit for tat when it started like that. Now that's pretty blatant.

"Saying that Kevin Durant probably doesn't deserve all the foul calls he gets, what I said, he probably doesn't earn all the foul shots he takes, I don't know if that's as blatant as saying what Pat said about Michael Jordan."

Jackson said that the 34-12 free-throw disparity in favor of the Thunder wasn't because of any intentional bias by the referees, but said they could have been influenced by the raucous sellout crowd.

"It's about the energy that's in the building, let's face it," Jackson said. "There's 20,000 people here that are really [intense]. It's not an objective thing, it's subjective. We try to make it objective, but it's subjective. People definitely lean a certain way. There's a certain statistic I think that can prove that. But we try to do the best we [can] do it and I think the referees do a good job with what they've got."

But Jackson couldn't stop himself from getting at least one jab in at the officials, even though he admitted that he doesn't think any of his comments made over the years gained him any favorable edge when it came to how referees called his games.

"You know, I know that the referees take an eye test, I don't know if they take a reading test," Jackson said.

Jackson also wanted to clear up his brief meeting with Stern prior to Game 3 at the Ford Center. Stern described it as, "I just came by and said, 'Hi,' and he said, 'I don't like you today,' and I said, 'I like you.'"

"We ran into each other in the hallway ... I did not say I didn't like him. I said, 'I'm not happy with you,' is what I said and he said, 'I'm happy with you,'" Jackson explained. "He misquoted the exchange."

Same ol same ol in Laker land.

I had hoped we wouldn't play lame games like we did last year (Houston series I'm lookin at you)  But here we are.

My question, why the hell can't we run our offense properly the way we have for years?  I can not possibly express my anger watching Lamar shoot fading sideways 18 footers, followed by my total lack of being impressed seeing Artest not be able to jump off the ground high enough to touch the rim on a lay up.  Walton, Farmar, and Brown all shooting tough tough 25 footers early in the clock.

Some credit must be paid to the Thunder.  No doubt.  But these are the playoffs.  Gasol, Kobe, Bynum, Lamar should all be shooting in rythym, their normal shots before the shot clock gets to 5.

Obviously we will play better in game 5.  But this is beyond stupid.  As I type the game goes further and further away from us.  The results concern me none.  We lost by 30 last year in games and won series.  I could care less about individual games.  I care about how we look during it.  We'll lose games, but lose shooting normal shots.  Lose when your shot is just off for a night.  Or when your D is lacking.  But not even being able to run your own offense normally?  Naw, I'm not ok with that.

Finally, I have questins.  I was told before this season, Ron Artest WANTS to win a chip.  He HUNGERS for one.  And yet, so far, in this postseason, he has impressed me with these.........

Gm 1, 7 pts,   3-11 fgs, 1-8 3's, 0-0 fts.
Gm 2, 5 pts,   2-10 fgs, 1-6 3's, 0-0 fts.
Gm 3, 10 pts, 5-10 fgs, 1-5 3's, 0-0 fts.
Gm 4, 5 pts,    2-9  fgs, 0-4 3's, 1-2 fts.

Toals?

27 points, 12-30 fgs, 3-23 3's, 1-2 fts.

I know, I know, Kobe shoots 30% too. But he gets 27 a game.

Ron?  7 points a game.  Same 30%  With a sparkling 3-23 3 point mark.  On the bright side, he is shooting 50% from the free throw line, on those 2 attempts he's managed in 4 games.

He WANTS that championship.

I think I remember someone bringing up his playoff failures before.  Can't remember who it was, but he's lookin like a prophet at the moment.  I kept quiet all year.  Today, I am not amused.  At all.
I know, he's played great D on Durant........who's averaging 26 a game.  Terrific.  26-7 disparity at the small forward spot.  And yet, people bag on Fisher, he's actually stepped his game up from the regular season.  A vet, with a playoff track record to be respected.

Wish I could say the same about Ron's.
tired.gif

(No, I am not putting this game on Ron.  I am merely bringing up a few facts, that's all)

The fact is if this whole team can't stop dribble penetration or play defense without fouling, all those Ron Artest stats don't mean a thang man.

No, Ron Artest could definitely play better. Thing is... and this is soooo going to sound like a cop out response... Ron is the epitome of a 'vibe' player. If the offense is clicking and you leave Ron open for 3, he's draining it. If the offense is struggling and he's open for 3, he's not the guy that's going to hit that big momentum-swinging shot.

If the team is down and playing lethargic and downtrodden, Ron's numbers will suck. If the team is down big but still playing with intensity, Ron is going to make a few plays.

The free throw desparity (sp?) is what disgusts me the most, and I'm not complaining about the refs. The Thunder are being the aggressors in the paint and we're not. Period.

And we have ZERO fast break defenders, a fact the Thunder are exploiting the HELLout of.

This will irritate a few, but I'm just mentioning it, so don't really get hung up on it ya'll, Trevor was not that way like Ron, Trev was a little bit like Fish and Big shot Rob in that he seemed to have a knack in hitting a tough, clutch, big moment shot.  Maybe not a game winner or anything, but just a crucial shot, sort of like the bank in 3 B Shaw hit that started the comeback in 2000.   Think of that crazy 3 Trevor hit at the shot clock in game 4 last year.  Or the shots he hit this year in Houston.

Trevor also played well as a fast break defender, and also crashing the boards.........but ok, I'll leave that all alone.

Kobe never had to get this much treatment last year.  This is not a good sign.

I felt GREAT last year in the postseason.  Don't have that yet.

Oh and uhhh, I don't think we'll go 15-1 like 01.  So there goes that.
