Official Los Angeles Dodgers Season Thread: NLCS vs Phillies

Maddux has a 1yr - $10million contract.

Dodgers gave up 2 players to be named later, and only paying a portion of the contract.

It's gonna be a crazy NL west race guys

great last couple days by the Boys in Blue.
Madduz coming back to L.A. is awesome. We honestly should have not let him walk 2 years ago.
As far as the Vin and Kent thing goes, Kent just better watch his mouth. Vin is the greatest basbeball announcer of all time. real talk. He IS Dodger baseball.People I know who aren't even Dodgers fans will attest to that. I will admit that he is getting old (let's be honest) and it seems like he makes moreand more little mistakes every game. There was a game a few weeks ago where in a matter of one batter, he got the count, the batter and the number of outswrong.

But he still is the only voice I've heard at Dodgers games in my 32 years of life. Think about that. Next to my parents, he's one of my mostrecognizable voices.
Jeff Kent is a douchbag, white trash, pornstache, redneck hick.
I didn't read the article that Dom posted about Maury Wills yet, but my dad sees him at least once a week at the grocery store (they both live in SanPedro) and he says he's one of the nicest men you could meet.
no codes for any games yet guys. I'll post it here if I get another one.

Maddux hopefully will help our pitching staff. I still remember how he got lit up by the Mets in the divisional series and we almost came back from thatdeficit. Oh well, Go Doyers.

Here is a clip from Mason and Ireland talking to TJ about the Kent.

Like I said, Kershaw being mentored by Maddux will be a @#@***+#@!%% WRAP!!! Read what Kershaw is saying, he sounds like he's ready to learn. I'm sure Maddux can provide more information to our pitching staff than Honeycutt

I remember during a telecast, Vin Scully was telling one of his stories about Greg Maddux and how great he is - He said while Maddux was with the Dodgers and Brad Penny was on the mound pitching, Maddux would be in the dugout on the railing giving signs to Brad Penny on what pitch to throw the hitters (touch his nose - fastball, touch his ballcap - breaking ball, etc). That night I believe Penny threw like a 2-hitter CG (I can't remember). Vin went on to say how much Maddux studies on each hitter, situations and is just one of the greatest pitchers of control.

Does anyone else remember this story? If i can find an article, I'll post it.

Dodgers react to potential Maddux trade

Kershaw looking forward to learning from the 353-game winner

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. -- Although the Dodgers did not make an official announcement about acquiring future Hall of Fame pitcher Greg Maddux on Monday night, that did not stop players at the team's charity bowling event from getting excited about the potential acquisition.
"We don't know if it's really true or not yet, it's kind of circulating around, but if that is the case that's awesome," pitcher Clayton Kershaw said of a Maddux deal that's close to being completed. "That's going to be a huge bonus for the Dodgers."

Dodgers manager Joe Torre often describes each of Kershaw's starts as just another learning experience for the 20-year-old phenom.

Although Kershaw is a power lefty and Maddux is a command and control righty, the rookie plans on learning all he can from Maddux.

"If he does get to come, I definitely would ask him as many questions as I can," Kershaw said. "Hopefully he likes answering questions, because I'm definitely going to be doing a lot of that.

"He obviously has a lot to teach. He's been out there so long. He knows a lot more about the game than I do right now, so I'm definitely going to just try to listen to him, pick his brain."

Maddux, who has won 353 games in his 22-year career, provided a positive influence to pitchers such as Derek Lowe and Brad Penny when the Dodgers acquired the four-time Cy Young Award winner for the stretch run in 2006.

Penny said he would work well with Los Angeles' younger pitchers such as Kershaw and Chad Billingsley.

"You can learn a lot off him," Penny said. "He knows how to pitch, and he's been through it. He just knows how to set up hitters, what pitches to throw when."

Russell Martin knows what Maddux can bring to the Dodgers, having caught him during his rookie season two years ago.

Martin called the veteran right-hander one of the easiest pitchers he's ever caught, joking he can even close his eyes with Maddux on the mound because of his pinpoint control.

"He's the type of guy that just makes everybody better around him," Martin said. "He has so much knowledge, and besides the fact that he's still a great pitcher, just everything that he knows can help our young team. He's a great guy to have on the team, no doubt."

If the Maddux deal does come to fruition as expected it would mark the second future Hall of Famer Los Angeles has acquired this season after dealing for slugger Manny Ramirez at the trade deadline.

Third baseman Casey Blake, also a midseason pickup, likes the sound of that.

"He's an outstanding pitcher, unbelievable career," Blake said. "When you throw a guy like that into a rotation it just bolsters a team that much more, so we just have more firepower now. It was cool for me just to be able to face him, but now to be a teammate of his obviously to get to play with a couple Hall of Famers on the same team, it's cool."

Dodgers close to deal for Maddux

Trade would bring 353-game winner from the Padres

LOS ANGELES -- Acquiring Greg Maddux for the stretch run two years ago worked so well for Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti, he's trying to do it again.
With Brad Penny back on the disabled list, the Dodgers were close to acquiring the 42-year-old Maddux on Monday for two Minor League players to be named, although a club spokesman quoted Colletti as saying the deal was not complete.

Maddux is a tough-luck 6-9 with 11 no-decisions and a 3.99 ERA for San Diego. Penny's spot in the rotation comes up again on Saturday in Philadelphia.

Maddux earns $10 million this season and had told the Padres the only club for which he would waive his no-trade clause would be the Dodgers, because he wanted to remain close to his Orange County home.

Maddux has 353 career wins, four Cy Young Awards and 17 Gold Gloves. He would join a rotation that includes Derek Lowe, Chad Billingsley, Japanese rookie Hiroki Kuroda and 20-year-old rookie Clayton Kershaw.

Colletti has a long history with Maddux from their days with the Chicago Cubs, when Maddux was just starting his career. At the Trade Deadline in 2006, Colletti sent infielder Cesar Izturis to the Cubs for the then-40-year-old Maddux, who nearly threw a no-hitter in his first game for the Dodgers. Maddux went 6-3 with a 3.30 ERA as the club reached the playoffs.

"He's not what he was when he was winning Cy Young Awards, but he'll still keep you in the game," Colletti said two years ago. "He's one of the smartest players I've ever been around. He'll figure out a way."

Even at his age, Maddux is not only considered an upgrade on the mound for a pressure-packed final six weeks, but an undisputed leader in the clubhouse. Lowe often talks about the positive effect Maddux had on him that year. Lowe went 8-1 over the final two months of that season and hasn't had a similar run since.

I guess Maddux deal hasn't been official yet.

He would most likely be scheduled to pitch Saturday at Philadelphia.

Kershaw knows what's up when Maddux joins the roster. Dodgers need a W tonight, I'm hoping Kuroda has a good outing again.

Ned doing big things, without taking on big contracts, I guess you do learn from your mistakes

Now all he needs to do is release Mark Sweeney

just pass a hat around the stadium to pay for his old %#@
LOL. Why the hate for Maddux, Bigmike?

Is anyone going tonight?

I'm listening to ESPN radio right now, and they are asking if us the fans should boo Jeff Kent for his comments about Vin Scully...

IMO, I think he said what he wanted to say, it's in the past now, and I believe he's an idiot for making those comments.
He's wearing a Dodgers jersey and he's helping this team, so I will still support Jeff Kent on the field.

But if I were to see him out in the streets, I would NOT acknowledge that grumpy cowboy.

I think everybody is blowing this thing out of proportion. I understand where all the dodger fans are coming from and its worse cuz its somebody on the teamwho the people already don't like and think is a prick already.
But he has the right to say whatever he wants, wheather vin is a legend or not.
Announcers talk $%$! about players all the time.
I am not defending jeff kent in any way, cuz I too hate that piece of $%$!!

Aww !*%+.

Damn Kuroda aint feeling it right now. Just look at his body language, comon Kuroda!!!

D'backs are beating the Padres right now, every game is a must win

I was just about to say Kershaw and Maddux sitting next to each other is a good look.
