Happened to me recently.
Manager's explanation was when the person does the charge to verify funds, it should be for like a dollar. In my case they charged the amount of the shoue plus like 75 cents. Like they did yours. When the transaction went through it was erased. Worked out good but I was kind of worried at first because I thought I was double charged. Also it sucks because the money for the second charge is tied up until everything processes.
Shouldn't be a big deal but the employee should not have made the verification charge for the full amount of the shoes.
