Earlier today MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) broke the news that ProElite, Inc., the parent company of Elite Xtreme Combat, appears to be on the verge of signing a landmark deal with CBS that will put MMA on major network television for the first time.

Thanks to Kevin Iole of MMAjunkie.com's partner site Yahoo! Sports, we now have a few additional details.

According to his report, the official announcement of the deal will come tomorrow. In it, EliteXC and CBS will confirm a four-fight deal that begins with an event in April.

Additionally, Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson, the YouTube brawler who earned a lucrative long-term deal with EliteXC in late 2007, will likely headline the first CBS event - either in Atlantic City, N.J. or at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., Iole reports.

Ferguson, a former bodyguard in the pornography business who now trains with MMA legend Bas Rutten, most recently defeated veteran slugger David "Tank" Abbott in the main event of the organization's Feb. 16 "Street Certified" show. The event, which drew a sold-out crowd of 6,187, set a record live gate for the University of Miami's BankUnited Center.

Ferguson, who hails from Miami, was the primary draw for the event. As MMAjunkie.com previously reported, he earned an event-best base salary of $175,000, according to the Florida State Boxing Commission. Additionally, since our initial report, MMAjunkie.com has been informed that EliteXC officials, including EliteXC live events president Gary Shaw, and Ferguson have met and discussed a possible contract extension.

According to Iole, CBS is expected to air the EliteXC events on Saturdays as live two-hour broadcasts, most likely from 9 to 11 p.m. ET.

EliteXC, which was formed as a partnership with Showtime Networks Inc. in 2006, had previously aired almost all of its events on the subscription-cable channel. Earlier today Sam Caplan of fiveouncesofpain.com passed along a report that stated Showtime subscription totals rose 11 percent in the fourth quarter of 2007. A highly publicized October "ShoXC" event and a major November EliteXC show likely played a role in the increase.

Showtime is owned by CBS, which is an investor in ProElite.

Pretty cool considering that when the UFC - CBS deal was a possibility, it was supposedly due to the writer's strike and a lack of new programming. For this to come to fruition even though the strike is over says a lot about MMA and the direction it's heading in. Thats whassup.

He should be - UFC is still the big draw in the MMA world, he's gotta make sure he gets everything out of it he can. All the major networks will do iswater down the product and rip you off in the process... i kinda like the route UFC has taken in terms of television.

Can't wait for Spider v Henderson... have a hard time figuring out how Dan can beat him, but he's got about as good a chance as anyone right nowi'd say.

%%!+!$% AMPED for Hendo/Silva!!!!

His boxing sure didn't come handy against Houston Alexander.

I haven't seen a whole lot of Hendo fights but from what I've seen of Silva, he's such an exciting fighter to watch due to his versatility. So I hope he keeps the belt. I also think he's the more humble fighter.
And? Was anyone in here talking about Houston Alexander?

Don't be so sensitive. My comment was in reference to your praise for his boxing skills, which apparently didn't prevent him from getting KTFO by Houston. What's wrong with that?

I didn't praise his Boxing skills. I just stated that he was a Boxer and that his striking should be sharper than Leben's. He is fightingLeben. Who historically is a wild swinger. No one said anything about Houston Alexander, who by the way, is not Chris Leben. And who is also infinitelystronger than Chris Leben. Let's stay focused here son. Dude, watching that Countdown has me even more amped. I love both fighters. Hendo will beSilva's toughest task to date. In honor of Anderson, one of the illest knockouts I've ever seen.

Alessio still sticks out in my head as having one of the weirder endings to a fight.

look around the 4 min mark..

Edit: 84 is looking good but "Ill Will"? They are running out of names I guess.

I was way off at 81, let's see if my predictions are any better for 82:

Dan Henderson def. Anderson Silva (for middleweight title)
Heath Herring def. Cheick Kongo
Alessio Sakara def. Chris Leben
Yushin Okami def. Evan Tanner
Jon Fitch def. Chris Wilson

PRELIMINARY CARD

Andrei Arlovski def. Jake O'Brien
Luke Cummo def. Luigi Fioravanti
Josh Koscheck def. Dustin Hazlett
Diego Sanchez def. David Bielkheden
John Halverson def. Jorge Gurgel

My picks are almost the same as True Blues with 1 exception

Dan Henderson def. Anderson Silva (for middleweight title)
Cheick Kongo def. Heath Herring
Alessio Sakara def. Chris Leben
Yushin Okami def. Evan Tanner
Jon Fitch def. Chris Wilson

PRELIMINARY CARD

Andrei Arlovski def. Jake O'Brien
Luke Cummo def. Luigi Fioravanti
Josh Koscheck def. Dustin Hazlett
Diego Sanchez def. David Bielkheden
John Halverson def. Jorge Gurgel

Elite XC confirmed in a press release today the story reported yesterday of signing a multi-year agreement for prime time television broadcasts on CBS.

The release listed four MMA events per year would air as two-hour prime time broadcasts on Saturday night.

While not officially announced, the debut event is expected to be in April, from New Jersey, and headlined by Kimbo Slice.

If the series is successful, a big if given the type of numbers needed for a major network, even on Saturdays, it would become the strongest competition UFChas ever had.

UFC today announced a three-year sponsorship agreement with Bud Light, the biggest corporate sponsor in the history of the promotion. The sponsorship goes intoeffect on 5/24, and will include both UFC and WEC events.

I'm spending way too much time talking about Alessio Sakara, especially when he's not even that great of a fighter.

But in reference to that clip with Drew McFedries, I would guess that he was somehow injured and that is why he just gave out like that. Even Randy says"something happened" at the end of the clip.

Drew McFedries is a scary %@$#*@! fight. That dude throws BOMBS. Great exchanges in that fight. Good body work by Sakara.

Hopefully he and Leben can provide some fireworks.

I mean seriously, whats wrong with naming the PPV's after the main events??
UFC 84: Penn vs. Sherk
Sounds perfectly fine to me!

i dont mind "ill will" but my guess is that theyll be doing that once they pass 100, UFC: shamrock vs ortiz 7

Tito is back? He was my favorite fighter when I was in High School. Jardine and Silva should be interesting.

Props to Kimbo the street brawler getting his paper on!

Wow. I heard through the grapevine last week that a buddy of mine was talking with Zuffa and was being talked well about by Randy Couture. Well, he justsigned with WEC.

http://www.timesheraldonline.com/ci_8406139

You might have seen him in Uriah Faber's corner in his last fight. I can't think of another Filipino fighter signed to a major promotion other thanBrandon Vera, so that makes it cool, too.

The icing is that it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

UFC 84 is looking good. Love watching Machida fight. He is definitely the future of the light heavy weight division. Plus, its probably Tito's last fight. He might want to go out w/ a bang. Wandy/Jardine should be a slugfest. Someone is getting knocked out. And there is definitely bad blood b/w Sherk and BJ. Letssee which BJ is going to show up.

I got Silva over Hendo, Kongo and Anyone against Leben.

I'm amped for tonight. Silva's right, one of them is going down or if it does go 5 rounds it'll be one of the best matches ever.

so....what happened with Sakara? Like I said, he had a better chance pulling a submission out of his #++ than standing up with Leben, I dont care if he was aboxer and is pretty technical on his feet. Leben never gets the cred his deserves. This fight went exactly how I imagined.
