How are the Blazers going to get better then .. I don't understand the assumption that every team can compete to come out of the West. IF Hayward recovers and doesn't become the new Grant Hill..
Looking at their cap the other option is to package Turner with either Mccollum or Lilliard in a multiple team deal to get some cap space and lose a whole lot of games over the next two seasons....

they can't. The way their structured....they have to either get better from within...or blow it up and start over.

If they trade Damian Lillard...nothing that he would bring back would make them better than what they are. Same with CJ.

They're going to be a 1st/2nd round out (MAX) year in and year out. They're in NBA purgatory. Philly was in this position 6 years ago and started The Process in blatant fashion and everyone got mad at them.

It's a star driven league. The contenders have the most (and best) stars. There's only 2 ways to get them....the draft or free agency. Preferably the draft is where you want to get them (a team like the Celtics picking up Tatum on a rookie deal is just as impactful as a team making a major free agent signing).

There's 3 tiers. You're either:

A bad team that's in the lottery year in and year out, hoping you strike gold with franchise changing talent.

A middle of the pack team that can get to the playoffs year in and year out. You may have (1) one superstar or (2) multiple all stars...but not ENOUGH of either to realistically contend

Or you one of the super elite teams with multiple superstars/all stars surrounded by solid veterans and great coaching. Or you have Lebron James on your team. There's only going to be 3-4 of these teams every year Max.
 
Right now as the West is constructed you have GS barring any injuries they're going to be there for the next three seasons. You have Houston.. again barring any injuries they're also there for the next three years.. After that it's up and coming teams like the Pelicans .. or maybe OKC if they keep Paul George.. So now say you're Portland you have three years until you get salary space.. Do you trade McCollum for say a Hayward + draft picks.. Trade for a starter plus draft picks or just wait it out and hope your team is healthy and the top tier team someone gets injured.

Their team really isn't badly constructed.. you got Nurkić he's only 23 and showed actual skill for the Nuggets to the point where they had a series minutes issue with him and Jokic. Now, how do you help him develop. How much more playing time do you give him and Collins together?

Who is about to give Marcus Smart a bag? And even if somebody does I think Ainge finds a way to get an asset back.
 
What’s scary about the Celtics versatility going forward is there are endless variations to those lineups.

Hayward, Brown and Tatum can play and defend 3 positions (2.3.4). Kyrie can play on or off ball. He can play with Terry. Horford can size up or size down with Baynes. Morris can defend and play 3s & 4s. Same with Semi etc.

Just a lot of positionless possibilities and versatility’s. If healthy and the young guys make jumps....that’s scary. Smh

And they'll always have either Tatum, Hot Sauce or White PG on the court.

I hate New England :smh:
 
They'll have to go bargain bin hunting for another big because Baynes and Monroe are both free agents.
