Official New York Yankees Offseason Thread

I'll keep things in line.  Sorry if it bothered anyone.

To keep things on topic (posted on LoHud):
Over at the San Francisco Chronicle, Henry Schulman jump into that very speculation, acknowledging that he fully expects Jeter to re-sign with the Yankees, but also writing that he expects the Giants to pay attention to those negotiations.

Should contract talks go south, Schulman wonders, might Jeter go west? He has some connections to Brian Sabean, the Giants need a shortstop and both sides expect to win next season.

I don’t expect any of this to matter. Ultimately I’m one of, well, everyone, who expects Jeter to be back with the Yankees next season and beyond. But it is interesting to see other markets begin throwing his name in the mix.

I cannot imagine Derek Jeter in a SF Giants uniform, or any uniform belonging to the 29 other MLB teams not known as the NY Yankees.

He's not going anywhere...honestly it's stupid to talk about...there is 0 chance of that happening.

I'm paying it no mind...eventually we will hear contract #s and people will either say the Yankees over paid him or gave him too many yrs

Everyone will have something to say about it but it doesn't matter because what he is worth to the Yankees and what he generates equates his real value to the club and his contract.

The Yankees will overpay him (and still stay within their "budget") given what Jeter means to the Yankees and their fans.

Plus, he has virtually no leverage—no one's going to give him the money the Yankees will.

It would have to take a really epic screw up in the negotiations for Jeter to end up elsewhere.

venom, how did you get suspended?

Bingo. That's all will be discussed when Jeter is re-signed.

I seriously don't understand how there are writers/analysts out there who even have the mere thought of Jeter playing for any team but the Yankees. They say impossible is nothing, but this %%%$ is IMPOSSIBLE.

Idk but I hope we don't pull another CC and outbid ourselves again. NOBODY will be able to pay him what we can. As great as he is, dude is 33 without overpowering stuff. I think you start negotiations at 4/80 and go from there. Again, realistically, no one can pay him the money we can so no need to go crazy and give him 6 years and $25 mil per.
