OFFICIAL NFL OFFSZN THREAD 2023-24: R.I.P Jacoby Jones

You’re telling me these idiots turned down the No. 2 overall pick offer by the Niners for Cousins, AND LET HIM WALK to the Vikings for nothing one year later? 😅
Are we unfamiliar with Dan Snyder’s reign in Washington? Lol

see the current situation with the colts

they’re asking for the world in a trade but don’t value dude enough to pay him while they have a QB on a rookie deal

washington didn’t believe in cousins enough to actually pay him but werent willing to trade dude.. and then as you mention they just ended up letting him walk, when they could have gotten extremely good value for a player they didn’t fully believe in

Context matters. Cousins was coming off a Pro Bowl season where he set the franchise passing record. They wanted him, just not at the price he was asking.

Instead of trading him to SF after pissing away a playoff berth against the Giants, we gave him another chance to prove he was the guy and a lot of money via the tag. He proceeded to go 7-9 and miss the playoffs again. But according to yall a sub .500 QB deserves the fully guaranteed contract he wanted

Now he’s in Minnesota being held back from Superbowl rings because of terrible coaching, bad o-lines, weak defenses, and whatever other excuses yall keep giving him…

cousins, like dak, went to their respective teams with what was rumored as reasonable offers

teams didn’t accept those offers and choose to play things out

this wasn’t like Daniel Jones, who looked better with competent coaching for the first time in his career

both cousins and dak deserved the rumored 3 years deals that were proposed

the problem for Washington and dallas is they put themselves in a situation where they tried to revisit deals a year later knowing the market had changed, just like it does every subsequent year.. and those guys were actually willing to play on the franchise tags and use the leverage they had once available to them

cousins wasn’t demanding a fully guaranteed deal until he had the power to do so.. which came when he had the jets with an offer on the table he could use as leverage vs the Vikings

Washington was a poorly run team, not surprising they made a bad moves on a number of aspects with cousins

just like with the cowboys, jerruh is stuck in his ways and like a specific contract structure so it’s not surprising the big deal that was being made on the extra year for the cowboys.. because that’s what they always do
