OFFICIAL NYk '22 offseason thread, RJ extended

Id pay Brunson, not overpay. He’s cut from the FVV cloth. High IQ modern day playmaking guards. Clearly the Mavs second best player and thats a 50 win team.

I think our young guards are way overrated. IQ was at one point the worst Knick on the roster so props to him for turning it around.

Im not gonna sit here and get excited over Deuce. I’m not sure he’s better than Toney Douglas. Also won’t get excited over how a player performs in April. I’ve seen this story before.

Bro ....

When it comes to our guys all I read ...

They are to old, they are late picks, they play good in meaningless games etc etc etc ...

But yet, you guys beg for FVV (undrafted and old) Brunson (undersize old and late pick) etc ...

Only difference is that these cats got a chance to play consistently and show out. Our guys dont get a chance to do anything because we are always begging for the homerun and then ***** at the org and dolan for giving in.

Unless we are willing to develop and give our guys a chance they will always be scrubs ...

Im good with running it back and with playing the young guys more ... **** aint going to change either way ... we have 10+ picks and we aint traiding them ... run it basecase they show out and we really have something ... worst case we lose and become a lottery pick with our own picks to choose replacements.

Brunson is who he will be & these are the kids you drafted.

They need the autonomy because Brunson is and will not be better than either one by the time they reach his age or respective peaks. IQ the better scorer & Deuce the better defender.

Bad business it sounds like going after a proven career backup who hasn’t even reached FVV status 🤷‍♂️. He’s not the difference maker needed for a ‘chip.

I was thinking about players the Knicks developed over the last 30 years .. and I don’t remember a single guard. All their guards were free agent signings or trades. Only Bigs they’ve been known for developing. Except for RJ

For those of you that don’t like Brunson, you need to take a step and look at the org. Unfortunately, Thibs isn’t going anywhere. We’re also not rebuilding. We were a 4 seed last season, and even if that was a fluke, the FO wants to build on that. Thibs isn’t going to hand the keys to Deuce or IQ, but he will let a guy like Brunson run point FT. In terms of his contract, he’s not fetching a max deal. It’ll be in the 20s per, which is pretty much standard for players of his caliber. If Rose can play 70 games next season, then I can see Deuce and IQ backing him up and I’m cool with another year if development. That’s just not going to happen. We played the whole season without a real PG that Thibs will play and the FO isn’t going to let that happen again.

Rose is 34 and fragile, IQ ain’t a point guard and McBride who I think can be a solid player shouldn’t be forced into a starting role just yet.

Brunson has shown to be able to play with other ball dominant players. He’d be a good compliment to several guys on the team currently and you’d have a legit PG at the helm.

Conveniently **** on the players your team drafted in favor another 2nd round draft pick who is who he is. He’s not even as athaletic or ahtaletically grifted as the 2 kids.

Not a bad player. Just not someone they need.

The misdemeanor guy in here is wacky man. Lol

I like IQ and Deuce but neither one of them should be out starting point guard.

IQ is best as a scoring weapon off the bench.

I had high hopes for Deuce but I just don’t think this is the spot for him unfortunately. (None of his own doing, Thibs plans do not include this kid)

Anytime he got play time, I didn’t see anything eye popping on offense. He was put in the corners like Sabrett and settled for 3s. I didn’t see him being assertive enough or putting any pressure on the defense. (Again, he is probably more than capable, just not under this coach)

Defensively, he’s a pest and could develop into a Marcus Smart type player. I wish we had a coach that wanted to develop him and give him a real shot.

Brunson would be a perfect kind of player if you gonna keep Thibs around.

I done said I couldn’t careless what some cats on here think when it comes to ball.

floodarea floodarea being one of the weakest links when it comes to that doesn’t surprise me & if we disagree on something here I generally feel much better about it.

making a post to state how much you don’t care is usually the best way to tell people you actually care a lot

Im not going to debate or try to argue in here ...

However, if the Knicks would of have drafted a 21 y/o senior out of Villanova....

Ya MF would of have been clowning and showing all type of stats as to why he would be a failure in the NBA.

However, that same player gets time to play and learn and becomes a solid PG and we are losing our minds because he's the only realistic hope we have to aquire a PG.

If that **** aint hypocrisy I don't know what it is.

BtW, Im not saying that Duece is the future PG or that Brunson is not worth it.

I just don’t know how you can watch dude put up 40 on 60% shooting in a playoff and say with a straight face that he ain’t it and we have better players…

Let me rephrase then. Your basketball acumen is dog**** so if you think one think & I think another, I feel better.

Except that 22 year old senior was a second round pick. So no one would care.

Not a top 10 pick getting paid 7 mill per year who had major red flags. Idk how you don’t understand those are two way different investments for the future.

I’m saying he’s not the answer they need for no 20 million per. He’s not THAT guy.

Knicks sign him & he just eats away from the opportunities for your own draft picks.

Quick is best off the bench and mcbride is probably not in the rotation...he's not better than rose or brunson if we sign him... so it's not like we are losing much by not playing him...realistically I don't see how we can pickup brunson and resign Mitch at the same time... besides RJ there's not really any good players here we can trade... you would have to attach cam and some future first round picks just to dump salaries
