***Official Political Discussion Thread***

Yeah but he does have that 51 vote majority and I would say this if there was any movement on these issues I wouldn’t be so annoyed by this.

I know the response is “it’s been just over a month” but honestly where is the “I need to get this done because I might be obstructed after 2022” momentum. He in theory has 23 months before the circus comes back to town.

Even if these ain’t the issues what Is.
Then say that, because the tweet was ignorant of basic civics

Secondly, there is a stimulus package being negotiated right now that includes $1400 checks and billions in rental assistance

Third, A 51 vote majority can only pass 3 maybe 4 bills before the 2022 elections. If you want more, then please tell take issue with Manchin, Sinema, Feinstein, and Tester.

And the major issues beyond Covid are probably climate change, infrastructure, electoral reform, healthcare, and civil rights.

he needed a recharge or "his power grid is gonna go out"

Alright they need to move on and work on something worthwhile. This is some republican level **** right here

I don’t mind them being petty. But be petty on actual relevant stuff that matters and which the American people would actually benefit from them being petty to spite the GOP.

True, but if trump dies soon and gets all that stuff, people will say why didn’t they do anything to stop it.

The spirit of the first tweet is correct even though wrong when it comes to process.

Structurally, our system of government and the priorities of Congress, both as an institution and in terms of how most individual members see the world, prioritizes profits over people. While the Republicans are obviously bigger offenders and on some issues, they are the only offenders, we are in a crisis and Democrats have a trifecta and the things that we absolutely need done, to help people right now and ward off fascism later, are not only not getting done right now those things will probably never get done.

Pointing out how bad Trump was or how kind Joe Biden seems in person, or how our institutions work or don’t work, and telling people to be patient, that is all cope to deal with the fact that we are living amid rampant crises and there’s nothing anyone can do to solve them or to stop the fascism that is inexorably charging towards us.

By browsing Twitter, I think some people are having a tough time with the reality that Biden has been pretty good so far, all things considered.

And not just conservatives, many of the left are too :emoji_rose:

If Biden is indeed doing well then don’t blame people for being Doomer. Suppose that he is doing a great job and no one could do any better under this system, then people are totally justified in their despair.

Edit: not you specifically because you’re very realistic about systemic short comings, I mean the generic blue wave person online who sees pessimism under a Democratic president as sedition and praise for the far right.

People are justified in the despair

They are not justified in expecting everyone to believe their hot takes.

Secondly, I talk to tons of people that close to economic ruin. They are pissed, yet they don't sound like Rose Twitter.

Why does rose Twitter matter? people express their despair in different ways.

I didn't say it mattered in the general scheme of things

But this discussion started because of a Tweet

I feel it is fair for me to make a comment about the discourse on Twitter given the discussion.

And it cuts both ways, if Rose Twitter matters so little, why have an issue when people criticize it?

I believe that MTG actually believes the QAnon stuff she says. Boebert is awful and inciteful but I think she’s just good at appealing to rightwing cultural grievance. Remember she and her husband own a gun themed BBQ joint, they know how to appeal to accountants and real estate agents in the exurbs who think they are rugged frontiersman.

Because your type of politics has a lot of power and access to mainstream platforms. It’s not hegemonic and it pales in comparison to centrist liberalism but you guys still have seats at the table. it’s punching down when people in your camp get mad that a few thousand people on Twitter vent our frustrations that we live in a dying empire amid crises that will not be solved.

I'm not going down the rabbit hole with you today

Fine but I’ll reiterate, folks aren’t obligated to be polite in their despair and they certainly aren’t obligated to be pro bono PR reps for people with more power than themselves.
