***Official Political Discussion Thread***

It is for all Americans. It is the same as he been talking about since forever.

-The reason it is stupid is that at because look at the temperature in the room. This has no way of passing because the GOP control Senate and House. even worse, I would guess Bernie is not going to make the CBO score it, and if it does then he has to defend the gigantic cost of it. It would be clear that just taxing the rich might not pay for it

Now their are many in the far left base that don't know there are many left win options for doing Universal Health care. It might just serve as another purity test for his supporters. That if you don't support Bernie's plan, somehow you must be bought. All the while Bernie supports the major amendments most Democrats want to see to the ACA.

It is pointless political theater at best, and a way to jam up his allies at worst.

I agree.

When your campaigning and doing inetrviews, you can state your own personal policy ideal. However, you should not be like ted Cruz or the "freedom Caucus" and use parliamentary maneuvers to promote an idea.

I think your plan for a robust, medicare for all option is better. It is much more plausible politically and probably works better policy wise. As you aid, you can explain it and make people feel like they are not being denied choices.

Short term, improvements to the ACA are definitely the way to go for Dems but the end goal eventually should still be coverage for all.

You're gonna need a specific and harmonious political climate for that to fly in Washington though :lol, not in this divided/fractured cluster**** of a congress right now

Beck rose to fame by being a racist and attacking with utter nonsense Obama

Even he admits he was wrong for that.

but his daily bread and butter is playing in da realm of da Ted Cruz constituency. giving subtle Red meat to anti obama racists was only his side show.

nah, Beck's angle was always couched in religious morality, which sometimes intersects with other aspects of overall Republicism.

Milo was a millennial polemicist who happened to use his gay status as a protected class to launch spears of his own, but he originally got famous defending freedom of speech in da arts of da video gaming community during gamergate, and expanded to politics battling political correctness.

Tomi's angle is far less innovative as far as history shows with blonde right wing darlings, but her millennial appeal and prochoice stance gives her unorthodoxed versatile range, and she ain't afraid to go behind enemy lines... contrary to what folks in this thread think, she got a overall thumbs up showing up at da daily show.

But all of them suffered backlash when they were no longer useful.

Beck actually did believe that character and Spiritual values mattered so he got slammed by not immediately supporting Trump.

Tomi got dumped as soon as she kind of sort of stood up for women's bodily autonomy. It's one thing to help old folks feel better about stealing from the younger generation by defunding education but as soon as you shatter the fantasy that you're pliant, baby making vessel, you're punished.

The same was true for Milo. Making fun of gay people or feminists or trans people is not bold or brave, their is a huge constituency for it. When he did something that actually is politically incorrect, he got destroyed. Conservatives showed their stripes by uninviting him to CPAC.

By questioning the structure of age of consent laws, he actually asked a tough and unpleasant and unpopular question and they dropped him like a hot potato.

It is wildly popular to bash academia and compassion for marginalized people, it is unpopular to ask why the age of consent is so high in the US.

I agree with you that all of them have or will find better fits and will continue to be big celebrities. However, we do see how little inetrest conservatives actualy have with tough questions and truly open debate.

Thanks for explaining. I agree. What we need to do is use this opportunity to build consensus and patch up the ACA, especially with vulnerable or center-right republicans who may be willing to buck their party now that the party has revealed its giant fault lines for all to see. We need a strong center-left center to emerge, a counterbalance to the trump and anti-Hillary Bernie bros that dominated 2016. People were ripe for a populist piece of **** in 2016. Now people are ripe for a competent unifier.

Back when da pied piper of R&B had us all steppin', I took an international relations class and looking back on it, it's lessons feel more applicable to social justice and Domestic politics.

We have a wealthy, white, male Oligarchy and Gerontocracy (it's not just that government officials are older, that is fine and proper, but that our welfare State redistributes wealth out f education and programs for poor and young families and send money to old folks including the ones who do not need the money) which form a Hegamon.

The question is how young people, poor people, middle class people, women, LGBTQIA people and people of color react. Do they they form an alliance to create a balance of power or do they jump on the bandwagon and cut a deal with the Hegamon?

Tanaryeas Lahgarian, Ben Barson and Los Papis por la Naranja join the Hegamon. A slight majority of all white women join the Hegamon. Men of color are more likely than women of color to join the Hegamon. Those who are woke are those who oppose the Hegamon.
Before he had us all steppin'? Nah, we were born steppin'. :hat

It is interesting how the right consolidates power in the way your describe. It's always about offering just enough to each group so that they stay on board. And you find the most groups who you can keep with the least effort.

It's hard to keep the well-educated, ethnically diverse and conscientious self-actualized individual who is after truth and not money. But they make up a small percentage of the population, and besides going after them means alienating a lot of your base. So it's clear who they go after. They go after those who are willing to turn away education, diversity, self-respect, and individuality for the crumbs of a few extra dollars and assurances of safety and security.

How do Democrats/liberals compare? What are the parallels and what are the differences? Is the hegemon even party-specific or is it actually a coalition of both parties?

He was actually golfing for 4.5 hours yesterday. Which I fully support. Our POTUS shouldn't be embarrassing himself on the golf course.

He was in the White House today though. Why? a) He lives there. b) He needed to make up for all the time he spent goofing off on Thursday:

edit: I've heard from some very intelligent people, the best people, that Trump is chronically constipated in DC because he doesn't have his golden toilet with him. Incidentally, big trucks do the trick too. They had to reupholster the driver's seat.

Whywesteppin always brings the inside information. My sources tell me that Da Don is grooming Steven Smith to take a more active role in his administration. Brilliant move given Da constipation problems.

Screamin' A, the Anus Whisperer. I agree, what a brilliant move. His role, likes Trump's bowels, will be plenty active in the coming days. The nation can now breathe easy.

Glenn Beck is still a doofus

I refuse to accept him. The same guy who said Obama "hated white people" forever **** this guy. I don't care what type of political climate we're in. I'll never rationalize this doofus, he's trying to cash in. Nothing more.
