The Republicans had Jesse Helms and Strom Thurman as former Klansmen in their ranks and the Democrats, to their shame had Robert Byrd. It speaks to the power of white supremacy that both major political parties could have former terrorists in their ranks.
However, since those terrorists sat in the upper chamber of our national legislature when I was an undergrad in college, tells be that racism is far from dead and irreverent in American political life.
