Bill was the cool dude that we loved (not trying to sound ignorant)

but that's bout where it stops for me. Maybe I should read up on them a bit more, but Bernie was there physically 'fighting' for equal rights when it was highly unacceptable.

I guess knowing some of that stuff means more to me than others.

It is a nuanced issue, don't let anyone tell you it is for one simple thing.

There is a article discussing the two candidates messaging and how it resonates with minorities communities. LINK

Still baffles me that Bernie lacks Black American support while Hillary is thriving on it.

According to liberal circles, its has more to with Bernie's huge racial

Blind spot perception from blacks when it comes to his approach to policies.

Most of Bernie' supporters are white and take da social issues of race as

As "luxury" vs Clinton's black support has to do with their belief that

She's more cogent in her assertion of black issues.

So the economic standpoint...

The thoughts on the ACA/Obamacare was interesting and made a lot of sense having now read that.

I just view it differently.

Michael Eric Dyson (someone I follow and respect highly) makes a statement (often) that Hilary has spoken on race relations better than anyone in like 20 years (prolly paraphrasing incorrectly) and I just think "WHEN?"

o well, long as it aint cruz or the openly racists trump

@TPM: Clinton aide to Sanders: Change your "tone" if you want another debate http://bit.ly/1ShmfJS

So does this mean she'd boycott debating Drumpf in a general? :lol :rolleyes

Hyperbole much brah :lol

Plus Bernie is essentially asked for the Clinton campaign to do him a favor.

Plus, what is a new debate gonna do for Bernie except serve as a campaign ad. Just him standing on stage repeating his platform over and over, but he needs Clinton to bring in the eyes. She should debate of course, but Bernie seems to be blowing it up to score some political points.

Bernie only wants a debate in NY to try and knock Trillary down a peg and pray for votes come the NY primary. Thing is he'll just repeat himself and Trillary will say a different version of what he's saying that mind sound better to certain ppl.

He is going to lose there and most likely Cali as well. He knows the end is near. This is just some of the last attempts to salvage it.

As for the whole Bernie fighting for Civil Rights somehow being more important to some black ppl, I really don't see what that has to do with now. Just on a surface level, it looks like Bernie did the right thing then, should be commended for it, then went back to all white Vermont while the struggle continued elsewhere. Not saying that's what happened but that's what it looks like. If you want to play he was in the Civil Rights movement to prop him up in 2016 probably wouldn't work as well as saying he was on the right side of things much farther down the line like in the 70s, 80s, 90s, and as recently as all the police killing black men across the country.

Because Bern hasn't made any real attempts to get Black voters to support him.

In Bernie's defense, when you're thinking a socialist mindset, you

automatically assume those who are impoverished will fall on line where they

May according to their needs, not aware that his own base gins up da racial

Politics because of how monolithic certain demographics vote, and any

Fracturing of that coalition is for certain a democratic loss.

Act like he actually understands or is really willing to learn?

Probably too late though. Bernie just doesn't sound like a guy in touch with that community.

Bernie is not a socialist, he is a social democrat.

There are not the same, social democrats are believe in capitalism

But they put equality over efficiency

-What exactly is folks would like to see him do? serious question

Tie the fates of minorities to the fates of middle class whites. Tell folk either black folk flourish with us, or no one flourishes at all

Minorities might be skeptical of how they fit in

-Hillary is making gains because he is telling people, I'm going to try to make everyone's lives a lil better, we're all in this fight together.

To minorities this sounds great, progress improvement. To middle class progressive whites, it is a half measure, not good enough.

Like I said, Bernie should have used Hillary pragmatism against her. Add a ton of social justice and racial economic equality programs to his platform

And have Hillary argue "pragmatism" against them

And she would have been out in the open playing her if she dared to that

That's basically Nordic Socalism. Hillary's pulled that "we're not Norway or Sweden" card, it's not getting her anywhere.

The Nordic Model is based on capitalism. Nordic countries are not pure socialist countries, they are capitalist countries

We need to get your terms right because 'socialism" as become a dog whistle for the right to scare people against the dangerous "big government"

It is that in Nordic countries they value equality, in America we naive chase "efficiently" at the cost of everything else.

The problem is that after decades of neoliberalism America has set up a welfare state for the rich and large corporations, where as Nordic countries the welfare of all citizens is but first.

Yes. That's not changing anytime soon, but Socialism isn't some sensational word that = EVIL FACIST NAZI COMMIE MARX LENIN STALIN MAO. There's so many varieties of it, but this is America, we've gone down the path of super materialism and we'll have to deal with it.

Bernie is Thom Hartmann for President basically, but at least he has a plan in my eyes. I'd elect basically anyone not on the super left or right if they actually have a plan instead of asking "VOTE ME IN NOW GIVE ME YOUR VOTE AND I PROMISE I'LL DO THIS". I chose Hillary as the path of least concern, but she's another liar/crook.

I love Bernie's campaign but if it were me running, I would not run against the current state of economic inequality. I would up the ante and run against American History itself. Our favorite liberals, Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton and even Cory Booker all have to kiss the ring of a mythical American that was "founded on fairness." I suspect that people who are women, people of color and even Jewish people have to say these things. I, on the other hand, as a white man whose ancestors signed the Mayflower Compact and the Declaration and the Constitution, am free to build a campaign with American History as the antagonist.

Just as Bernie is running an educational campaign, I would tell a story, a story of subjugation and exploitation a tale of treachery and broken promises. I would talk about History and its long shadow, History as a living thing. Wall Street, Conservatives, establishment Democrats would all be demons sent forth by the monster that is American History. The narrative would be one where only through the collaboration of students, working white class people and all minorities can we combat this rotten legacy of that is our own History.

I would be a mix of Simon Schama, Ta-Nehisi Coates and Tim Wise. The campaign would be visceral, brutally honest and would hopefully go beyond what Bernie Sanders' or Hillary Clinton's campaigns are doing right now.

Any updates on the guy who shot up or tried to shoot up the capital today?...I heard he said he was a prophet of God or something.
