***Official Political Discussion Thread***

This thread has left a permanent impression on my mind. Thanks to Rusty versus Ninja, I can never heard, read, write or speak the term "rent control" quite the same way again. I have to teach rent control in my class next fall. Maybe I will tell the freshmen that rent control is not an effective anti poverty tool because people with "da porsche money," benefit while da truly needy are frequently not helped by da program.:lol

My grandmother always says that if Bush wasn't a complete idiot, and never had power, everyone would love him because he is such a joyful man.

And that she had a old dog as a girl that acted like he was a still puppy, and Bush reminds her of the dog :lol

I must say, I agree. If famb wasn't the worst president in modern history, I might like ole boy. Word is Obama is very fond of him too :{ :lol

Im good.

not sure why I'm watching more Paul Ryan. he's used the term "update mobility" at least 4 times in 10 minutes. he's also failed to answer every question asked if him. the audience is just staring hoping he will say something relevant.

anyway not sure i can put up with 3 days of this next week. i long for the days of Clint Eastwood and George Bush.

More often than not, the people here complaining about "all y'all got is calling people racists, ignorant, ..." are guilty of posting blatant ignorance or racism. Yourself being a prime example.

Literally every one of those terms you summed up applies to you and that has little to do with your political views.

In fact we're the ones wasting keystrokes because you nor Blco2 ever concede to anything regardless of how blatantly wrong or over the line your comments are. It's also rather ironic that you're talking about disrespect when you continually disrespect the plight of minorities with comments like systemic racism is just a liberal fantasy etc.

I would think most of us here are in favor of having opposing views, the problem is there's not enough of them and the major ones, you and Blco2 engage in perpetual intellectual dishonesty, deflection and continuous strawman and red herring fallacies.

Maybe you should make an effort into having a reasonable debate instead. Admitting fault and conceding to being proven wrong are essential learning experiences and you've proven incapable of doing so. I don't think I've ever seen you concede to anything, and if you honestly think you're a genius laying out nothing but facts and wisdom you're delusional.

And yet you don't realize that he's been right many more times about this country than you have. Living here does not automatically make you an authority on the subject, as you've demonstrated numerous times to be disconnected and aloof when trying to debate anything. Your opinions and views are corrupted by your unwillingness to educate yourself on subjects you try to argue, which is not my opinion but a fact based on the numerous times you've been sonned by members in this thread. Your arguments are at best misinformed, and at worst complete fantasies you pedal as a right wing mouthpiece.

In response to the bolded part, yes.

It doesn't take a genius to look at data and come to the conclusion that systemic racism is not only real but a significant problem that affects minorities many different ways. The criminal justice system statistics alone are sufficient proof of its existence.

To be aware of these statistical facts and to somehow come to the conclusion that systemic racism is no more than a political fantasy is both ignorant and racist.

Only one sounding confused and distant from reality on this issue is you.

like i said, *yawn* u ain't fooling no one with partisan politics and da fact that a white guy is using da race card on a minority is flat out laughable. :lol

see why im trying to get outta here? straight issh show.

I definitely agree with ninja in the regard that systemic racism is leveraged by the left to get and maintain support from minorities. But i don't belive that what everyone in this thread is defining as "systemic racism" isn't happening or doesn't exist. There are definitely economic, societal, professional, and educational disadvantages that disproportionately impact people of color.

The left is able to leverage systemic racism as a political issue because conservatives refuse to even acknowledge it, let alone do anything about it. If GOP even acknowledged systemic racism, they would reduce the edge that Democrats enjoy among people of color.

It should be noted that Asian Americans overwhelmingly voted Democrat in the last election and will do so in this election. According to the GOP's own narrative, this does not make sense. According to conservatives, black and brown folks are lazy and conniving and vote Democratic because Democrats will give them free stuff on a race based platform. Conversely, Asian American are the good colored people, the hard working model minority who should love the Republicans' rhetoric about tax cuts and personal responsibility. Yet you have Asian Americans rejecting the idea that the GOP is a post racial party for economic winners.

How do you explain why Japanese American, who earn more than the median white person, vote Democrat? How do you explain why South Asians, who have higher rate of business ownership, reject the GOP? My personal, theory, is that education and the experience of being ethnic outsiders causes people to vote for more liberal political parties. @Ninjahood, I am curious what you think about Asian Americans supporting Democrats.

it's where the Republican narrative fails. telling people the government should provide opportunity for all hard-workers while at the same time at least implicitly saying that American is for white Evangelical Christians... when the majority of those white Evangelical Christians are not putting in the work, not innovating, not valuing education...

so it provides the ultimate paradox when the hardest workers and most innovative are first or second generation immigrants.

it's not about immigration policies but immigration policies are where this paradox is most obvious.

if the republican party were to be consistent they would either need to shed their conservative social and religious policies or shed their economic opportunity rhetoric and just admit they don't care about economic growth and innovation because it's more important to exclude outsiders.

on the other hand, Asian Americans are often the most hurt by affirmative action, in which case you'd think they would vote republican. personally i feel the negative effects of affirmative action are slightly (or severely) overblown, but i don't know what the data actually says.

When it comes to affirmative action since its been in place white woman have benefited from it more than  any other minority group. Many people don't understand how affirmative action actually is or is meant to work because of misinformation about it like quotas existing which don't or under-qualified people getting a job/spot before another also is not a part of it but because people think those are things the "negative" parts of it have been greatly over blown.

In short we have proven that affirmative action can work and help minorities because since it has been enacted things have improved for white women we just have to allow the same to happen for other minority groups and to do that misinformation needs to be dispelled about it and people have to allow the law to do what its meant to.
