People had an issue with him being a contaratian since before last election. Then when he cried after Trump's first presidential address, that push most people over the edge. His constant contaratian hot takes about Trump not being that bad and sympathizing with racist white people is what continues to piss people off. It is not strictly about the First Step Act.
