***Official Political Discussion Thread***

This is a moment for “classical” republicans to separate themselves from this circus. And they doubling down
For real. It'll be interesting to see what happens to the republican party in the next 4 years, what it will become, and who they put up as a nominee in 2024. Party is in shambles. Will these Trump supporters continue to force the party and politicians further to the extreme even with Trump out of office or will the classic republicans slowly try to real things in for the party?

The nightmare scenario is that Tim Scott becomes more economically populist while maintaining the respectable republican sheen.

he then takes back the suburbs and does even better with black and brown voters.

he'd be a monster candidate. lettuce pray he never wins a republican primary.

While I completely agree with you, Trumpers are wayyyyy too racist to let a Black man when the primary :lol These aren’t logical, strategic people.

So Tim Scott is supposed to win a GOP primary against another Trump fake populist clone running as well?

The GOP's base is not mainly motivated by populist politics, it is the racism/white identity politics that gets them to the ballot box. This was true of 2016 GOP primary, the 2016 General, and it is probably true of the 2020 General.

All you are saying is that a moderate Republican (especially if black) will be difficult for a democrat to defeat in the general, but that has been true for a long time.

The problem is, moderates can't win the primary.

I can’t believe Biden has the highest number of votes ever and the Dems only picked up 1-2 Senate seats. That sucks.

With these numbers you’d expect Dems to have taken over the Senate and picked up more house seats.

That’s disappointing.

Dems won’t ever admit this but all that “defund the police” rhetoric REALLY worked against them in Congressional races.. [Note: I actually generally agree with the sentiment of people who share this view but most other people aren’t going to bother with specifics and take it at face value as “get rid of the police” instead] People forget that the majority of the country, in terms of # of states, is still pretty moderate.

You’re correct. Trump clones will stonewall any legit candidates to come 2024. They played themselves

Yes, all that helped nobody. They need to pick and choose their words wisely. Simply calling it police reform would of changed everything. “Green new deal” needs to go in the garbage too. The buzzwords need to die

In not predicting anything. I hope you're right.

The Republicans nominated mitt Romney not that.long ago.

Agreed.

The craziest race was Susan Collins in Maine. She never led a poll for 9 months. Projected to lose by 6-8 points........ she wound up winning by 9 points.

By far the most bat-ish crazy race.

the "Green new deal" problem isn't so much the marketing of it but more so how completely useless and unrealistic the proposal is

"Defund the police" is the opposite. makes a lot of sense but the marketing is horrible

Also Dem donors spent $106 million on Jamie Harrison, he was tied in every poll with twinkle toes Lindsey Graham,

Lindsey cupcake Graham wins by 9 points. Idk what the hell happened in the Senate with Dems.

But polling is definitely dead.

so the Secretary of State in GA has announced that there’s still approx 8k military ballots still needed to be counted for. Then they’re going to do a recount.
