This is my position.
Nah, I'm all for it.

Some people are crooked, lowlife, a pile of disgusting, rotten POS, do wild, unjust things to others, and don't deserve to live. AT ALL. Life is way too precious for some unknown **** to be out here just robbing you of it.

So what happens when an innocent person is executed?

And death row inmates are disproportionately black, which increases the chances of an innocent black man being killed by the state. Furthermore, a lot of people facing the death penalty at trial don't have the resources to put forward a decent defense. So that increases the error rate of wrongful convictions.

I just can't understand why people think giving people life sentences to at least prevent no one innocent is unjustly killed is somehow not a better system than one that risks innocent people getting murdered because people think state-sponsored vengeance is necessary.

The criminal justice system is such a dysfunctional mess, why should we not think that the death penalty is part of that mess too.

I think Bryan Stevenson puts it better than I can...

Not speaking on the innocent.

There are so many people, especially on NT, that need to watch this interview and listen to what Obama is saying.

He calmly and clearly went into detail about the point @gry60 been telling dude on NT for like 6 years now. The president is not a benevolent Santa Claus. There are roadblocks to getting positive change and if you don't engage with the system all the time, and understand how the system works, things can not only not get better, they can get worse.
I'm reminded of Cornel West telling black people to rein in their expectations of Obama, before he was elected. That he was one man who did not exist to fix the flaws of american society and couldn't do it himself anyways. Then turned around and somehow managed to ignore his own advice

Folk gotta realize West, while right about a lot of things, is also a massive clout chaser.

Mans got beef with Bams because he didn't put him on after the election. The dude's beef is mainly personal, but he claims it is principled.

Plus, I lost a ton of respect for him and some other black leftist that gives trash white leftist a vessel to say slick **** about Obama.

I can never trust a man, who does not change his clothes.

I've watched him be confronted about that in person, and I also watched West flinch in the face of that question, especially with his support of Jill Stein, a white woman no less. He began talking about John Coltrane, and how he follows the theme of A Love Supreme, totally avoiding the question.

Yeah, right after the 2016 election Bill Maher of all people pressed him about his Jill Stein supporting and it had him squirming

Dude was coping all kinds of pleas, talking about some I live in New Jersey, I didn't matter steez. Ignoring the fact he toured the country trying to get people to do as he did.

Exactly. He and that idiot Tavis Smiley toured the country with their banjo's and their washboard rhythm section, tap dancing in front of all white audiences, talking down about Barack. I lost respect for Lupe Fiasco for using the same back up band as well.

so Loeffler had to quarantine for covid-19 and Perdue is under investigation by the justice department.

Georgia GOP is about to 28-3 control of the Senate.

You can temper your expectations and still be disappointed.

What we do know after eight years of Obama is that either he was unwilling or unable to make a dent in or even stop the growth of wealth and income inequality and the racial and gender based inequalities therein.

Based on his post presidency writings, they read less like a treatise on power and more a memoir of someone rising through the ranks of management. That’s appropriate because our highest ranking elected officials are like upper management of a huge company. Barack Obama was the CEO, a very public facing CEO with a little discretionary power who gave great pep talks to the hourly workers, that’s us. The real managerial power fell to the board of director, the Senate, led by Mitch McConnell. The Board, ultimately reported to the major share holders, which in this analogy is capital.

There’s some stuff that Obama could have done differently but arguing about his failure to leave America a fundamentally more just country upon leaving office misses the point.

If an impressive guy who came up through community organizing, who had genuinely bold plans and a lot of political capital upon entering office couldn’t get his transformative but still accommodating-to-capital plans turned into policy, there’s structural issue that go beyond even the GOP’s visible obstructionism.
