1. I didn't make any prescriptions about what the dems should do. I dunno what you should do, pretty tough situation.
me personally tho, id give up on it.
2. i don't think there are very many dem voters where gun control is their top issue.
so I think there is little electoral cost to abandoning the issue.
and even if they are, the older whiter skew of the electorate makes them less important. it's unfortunate.
3. They are weak sauce because any substantive measures would be unpopular.
and I do not think it's unreasonable for a gun enthusiast to believe these symbolic measures aren't a prelude to a death by a thousand cuts incrementalism.
call that slippery slope if you want. but If I loved guns it seems like a reasonable argument.
4. The "gun nuts" care the most and live in places where their votes are more powerful.
so to me you are drawing dead on this issue.
progressives care a little bit, but they are mostly in big cities, and they don't care enough to not vote for democrats over it.
if dems wanna do it for moral reason, or out of conviction they should go ahead and keep on the fight.
that's certainly reasonable and their right. sometimes you gotta fight losing battles for whats right.
me?
I would not. I think Bernie pre 2016 had the right formulation.
be chill about the guns, and talk about other stuff.
