These rich counties are also full of highly educated people and, much more than in the 80s, ethnically diverse. So this confounds any blanket statement trying to link income level with voting preference.

The days of the rich old white guys in the fancy neighborhood is being replaced by the immigrant families who are doctors/lawyers/engineers/self-made and are seeking to send their kids to better schools that they were historically shut out from.

OF COURSE people like Ted Cruz want to disavow such people and instead cling to their antiquated concepts of only white Americans being wealthy because of some theory rooted in racism and eugenics. They wanted to think that was a result of hard work. Now that we see minorities acquiring wealth through actual hard work, the GOP obviously wants to relabel them as rich elites who aren't part of the working class.

If anything, it's disgusting that people like Ted Cruz are trying to vilify those who achieved the "American dream" just because they also vote for a party that doesn't want to lock children in cages and doesn't mind paying higher taxes to take care of the poor and disenfranchised.

It seems like high income counties is a pretty inaccurate way to measure for whom the wealthy vote.

Poor people live in every county, so even “rich” counties have a lot of poor people. You can have a few super wealthy enclaves making the mean income look high. If you go by median income, that reduces the effect of those outliers but there’s still the problem of counties with high income tend to have expensive housing so people making the national median or even more than the national median are not doing very well financially.

I totally agree that there are more accurate ways to gauge the income of voters, I'm arguing against the point that Ted Cruz is trying to make.

What are your feelings on her selection?
Given the position, I'm fine with it. Seem like a good pick

She has some bad takes, and she gets into stupid Twitter beefs for no good reason, but she is well left of Biden on economics, she isn't a deficit hawk and believes is full employment economics. She checks all the important boxes. Obama's cabinet was really a mixed bag, and too often he listens to the wrong people, Joe seems to be picking the better of the bunch.

Anyone watching this?

I watched the first 2 episodes but will catchup on yesterday’s today. I have really enjoyed it. I really enjoyed the line his son said when his father started accepting conservatism, he didn’t choose it because “he agreed with it, he chose to accept it because it was easier because he didn’t need to critically think.” Sort of paraphrasing that quote but that was the meaning he was trying to get across.

It’s crazy how disgusting his dog whistling was and his reputation really should be tarnished. Too bad his devout followers will never watch this. Nancy just pisses me off too for some reason we I watch this.

Didn’t watch The Reagan’s but Nancy was a big time conservative when Reagan was still a union liberal. I’m sure trying to get them cheeks played some role as well in his shifting ideology.

I actually have been hoping that Biden would do exactly that. Pick the better Obama people and when making new hirings either choose people with a background in success, or left leaning people with some new ideas.

Obama tried to play it safe when it came to staff mostly because he was young and recognized he needed guidance. Biden isn’t young but I will give him credit his whole political career is based onhim being open to bee ideas, both good and bad.

I know a few people (men and women) who changed their politics and religions for cheeks. I honestly think it’s the number two catalyst for that change besides moving out of your parents house.

The way the documentary is playing out it wasn’t Nancy that was a conservative and that she was just as the window blew and would go along with anything Ronald the pile choose, it was the father of his first wife that was hardcore and was the person who was in his head constantly about it. Then even after the divorce he drew it against unions and pro corporate approach because GE and other brands he would endorse who literally funded his life. He lived well beyond the means that his acting skills could pay for.
